My wife is out of state visiting a friend. Saturday all by my lonesome with only the dogs staring at me. So I dug around in the supply closet to see what I have and found the makings for various reloads,  all non cas. So, I jumped in. Managed to get 270 rounds of 38 special. 50 rounds of serious 44mag (265gr jacketed soft point)  and 242 rounds of “fun” 44mag (240gr mostly plated berrys bullets but also the left overs from a few other boxes of cast bullets).  Not bad for an afternoons work (no progressive presses for these calibers, this was all done “old school”).  That is a whole lot of free ammo, this was all built from various dribs and drabs I bought so long ago I had forgot about them.

I also found 800 or 900 bullets for 45LC I had forgot I had too.  Will need to get some brass clean for those too.

I really need to dig around in that closet more often.

I’ve been scrounging around on the classifieds and other internet sites lately, mostly out of boredom, and have accumulated a goodly supply of components for 30-30, (thanks Eyesa Horg).40 S&W, (thank you Lawman Mark!) and 12ga shotgun.

I don’t reload .40 S&W, but my son shoots it , so I farmed out that bit of labor to a good friend who reloads professionally.  I spent a day sorting and tumbling brass, culling bad shells, collecting up and boxing up components and powder, and researching load data to get it all together. Our stock of that caliber is now large enough and sufficiently versatile to satisfy him and myself!

I kinda’ like reloading 12ga recreationally! A couple of pards sent me boxes of paper hulls in 12ga and it sparked my interest.  So now I have several boxes of paper shotgun shells made up for a little “promiscuous shootin’” as soon as I can put both feet on the ground again!

Between that and setting up my newly acquired 10ga MEC 600 jr. , I have a few things to fiddle with to keep me from “goin’ ‘round the bend” for a spell.

Now I’m working on getting the 30-30 stuff counted, sorted, the components arranged, the load data compiled, and picking up the powder to make a sizable run of that caliber for stock and a little recreational range time.

Between cutting down on the boxes of unused components and swapping and trading with my friends for stuff I don’t have but can use, I think I might enjoy the scrounging and putting stuff together as much as the shooting!! 🤪 🤣
