Tires, no matter where they're sold OR made, (China, Korera, etc.), must meet US DOT standards. Walmart can sell name brand tires simply because they can buy 200,000 tire at a time where Bob's tire shop might get a couple hundred at a time. The same way that they can sell Wrangler Jeans for less than Bubba's Cowboy Palace. Walmart is buying 50,000 of each size at a time where Bubba is only buying a dozen at a time.

I sure that the tires sold must meet DOT standards. I just don't think believe that the tires sold to Sams/Walmart are the same (visual quality control, tire material compounds, etc.) tires as sold to other retailers.

I've only bought tires for myself at Sams once. My problems were with two of the four. After about 1,000 miles, they developed a vertical indentation in the sideways that was visually obvious. They refused to do anything about it.

My ex, against my advice, bought tire there three times. All three sets developed the same problem within 1,000 miles on at least one tire per set. The brands were of two different manufactures.

My present lady has purchased two sets of tires from them, against my advice of course. Both sets developed the same problem. They were two different manufacturers.

The manufacturers were Goodyear, Bridgestone, Yokohama (sp?), BF Goodrich and brand that I don't remember, Dunlop maybe.

We don't buy tires at Sams/Walmart any longer. I haven't for at least 30 years now.

Dapper Dave, I don't know how far out of Tucson you are, but I frequent the Walmart at Foothills Mall, and it's a pretty decent place. You might give them a try unless it's just further than it's worth for you to travel.

I moved up to Casa Grande about 15 years ago. Born and raised in Tucson - I remember Price Club and Yellow Front down there. :)

Did a "Wally Walk" when I got my carry permit years ago. Had been several years prior when I bought a Mr. Coffee drip coffee maker which did not have a clock or other fancy stuff. That prior trip was the last time I was in a Walmart until the walk.

I did not really even want to do the walk there but it made sense to get some initial comfort with carrying an arm in public. I had no problem with the infamous customers. The reason I had a problem came from the prior coffee maker  trip, it was near the holidays and I saw how the employees (mostly new) were exhausted, overworked, not enough of them, and how supervisors were treating them. The company culture had an illness. I doubt it has healed over the years.

I know many can not afford to shop elsewhere, but the best thing customers could do is stop patronizing the company so it can deservedly die, in hopes replacement companies would treat employees better as those employees could then possibly treat customers better. But as a customer and a former retail worker, Walmart does not deserve my business.

I've been beating that "stop shopping there" drum for fifty years or more.  People just haven't been stung enough and / or badly enough, to "inconvenience" themselves and now most of them are so used to it that they just don't care.

Do you save any money for doing their job for them?

Are the waiting lines any shorter?

If you answered "no" to either one you're getting shafted.

I don’t save any money but I save time and there’s hardly ever a line and it’s always shorter than the cashier line.
I disagree about getting shafted. I’m glad to get out of there in a hurry so I saved time and time is money so they say!
How about you do you and I’ll do me?

I'm the same way. If asked, I tell them that the cashiers that they DO have are getting paid to run the register. I'm not, so I won't.

I've found that if you ask, someone will run the self checkout for you.

If they ever say that they can'/ won't, I'll tell them they've got two choices: Either they can find someone to check me out, or they can find someone to put the stuff in my cart back on the shelves.

EASY there Rye, nobody's saying that you can't do so if you want to. If that's your preference, go for it.

As for me, I've got more time than money, I'll wait in the cashier line. Like I said, I don't work there. Now if they offered a discount for using the self checkout, like they do for gas, I'd be all over it.

Not many places where you go and get groceries, tools, electronics, household items, prescriptions, first aid, toys, and ammo. I actually may have left a few things out! 🙄

I find that I also get NO ONE who knows their butt from a hole in the ground....and they are almost all computer-bound.  I don't know how some of them find their way out of the store so they can go home at quitting time.

I have seldom found a faster check out because they have one or two checkout registers open and lines at the self help area are seven to ten deep.  One store doesn't even open registers until 8:00 am and I'm halfway through my day by then.

Her statement was purely her own.

From CBS News:

"The advertisements from Christy Walton are in no way connected to or endorsed by Walmart. She does not serve on the board or play any role in decision-making at Walmart," the company said in a statement to CBS MoneyWatch.

Not defending WalMart, but I doubt alienating Trump supporters is on WalMart's to-do list.

They have alienated me and is has nothing whatever to do with Trump or politicians of any breed.  My family is laced with them...like my sister and her son.

I manage a large company that supplies an everyday staple to grocery stores including Walmart. They make you jump through so many hoops its ridiculous, we had to follow rules that they themselves do not follow. But what I really hate is dealing with one of their competitors whose logo may be something you would shoot at.

They put is through an ethical audit every 3 years. Another 3rd party hired by them shows up and looks through all your employees records. They also interview random employees to see how we treat them.

One year I lost my temper during the inspection, I asked the auditors of they go to China or Taiwan, of course the said no. I asked them how much the employees that make all the crap clothes make per hour, they don't know. I asked them how much the employees of this national chain store make per hour, how much vacation time, how their benefits are, still no answer.

Their audit stated that they disapprove that my employees work so much overtime!

I told them:

This is a Union shop with Teamster pension, starting pay is twice  that of a worker at their store. BCBS Insurance for $25 per week and it is a 90/10 plan with a $1200 deductible. and a $2400 max out of pocket, DOUBLE TIME on Saturday and Sunday and TRIPLE TIME on holidays!

AND all the overtime is voluntary!

I figure its a numbers game where they can say that they inspect a certain number of their suppliers to make sure they are treating their employees right and they all snuggle up in their blankets at night, made in a sweatshop by a 10 year old who works 20 hours a day and pays rent to sleep on the floor.

I've got bigger and better things in life to hate than walmart. I don't go there to make friends, study fashions, worry about what Sam would think or enjoy old school customer service.

You, me or all of us reading this and not shopping there isn't going to make a difference to them one way or the other. But more power to you if that's the way you feel. All of us on this forum are basically the same type of people with just a few different personal views......

Myself, I don't mind hitting a deal like this one last fall where I saved 15 bucks a box on 32 boxes because they were mysteriously marked down at the START of duck / goose season.

And I took them through self-check out like I always use because that means there is one less whack job touching my stuff.
