What they fail to acknowledge is that 99% of these “programs” do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to reduce violence of ANY KIND and that much, if not MOST of the money has gone into the pockets of politicians and even directly into the hands of gangs and drug dealers!!

It would be far better if these programs were discontinued and the funding directed toward law enforcement and prosecution and punishment of those who are responsible for the violence!!

I continually fail to see why it’s the federal government’s responsibility to fund these programs?

If they are truly good programs they should be able to raise the money themselves.

Not sure what the answer is, but these various programs have not produced as many results as policing has.

Those who do not even complete a High School education are certainly "at risk." And by this I mean going into a life of crime. Education may not completely equal opportunity, but is certainly a strong marker of success. This may even be trade school, we still need welders and linemen; there are some jobs which do not require a college degree. Still requires completing High School.

On the flip side, as long as the consequences of crime, such as drug dealing, are lower than the benefits of the lifestyle which comes with such activities, the benefits of education will be lost on those who would rather lead a criminal life. And even in jails, there are three hots and a cot. For those who do not value time, maybe they consider this an easy benefit and relief from daily struggle...

There are a lot more jobs, many of them very lucrative, that don’t require a college degee than there are that do require one!

Today’s BA or BS degree is roughly the equivalent of a high school diploma in the ‘60s, ‘70s, and perhaps into the’80s!!

Half of those are certificates for educated idiots!!

Both my kids went STEM a good many years back to a then good College just at the leading edge of the indoctrination phase.  If I had a new HS grad today, Trade school instead.  Get into a good Trade Union - there still are some.

My oldest grandson is enrolled in school with the steam fitters’!

He likes it and it’ll pay big bucks when he graduates!
