I wonder if the night shoot was the standard one-in-four?

Looks like the brass flying around when Deuce,  Smokestack and Bogus Jim shoot their rifles..... :)

More like a brass shoveler.

I would guess if you could afford to buy it you could afford to feed it. LOL

I would also hate to be on the receiving end of it. I don't think that Kevlar vest would do you much good.

If you gots lots of cash, you might get to fire it for about three seconds!!

Looks like the Knob Creek event up in Kentucky that they have every year!

Friend of mine spent $3,000.00 for 50 BMG ammunition to feed a Quad-50!  He was done in under a minute!!

Oh to be rich enough to able to feed that thing.

I read one time that the reason Dillon designed his reloading presses was because he had some mini guns, and he needed to make ammo to feed 'em.

I couldn't afford the links, let alone the ammo to go into the links.

I showed this to my coworker who asked if I won the lottery, would I buy one. I said no, where the heck would I shoot it? Imagine unlimbering this trailer at the local outdoor range.

On the other hand, full auto IS fun, that is true. And fun to watch.

Maybe with a front end loader. I can't bend over that many times with a regular hand shovel. :)

Not to mention the down-range drones that were getting wasted.

Did see the operator's feet dangling, like a kid, instead of on the footrest/brace.

If I had it, I would still miss the target.  (Reckon I'm the world's worst at shooting.)

Is that a challenge?

Squirrel gun? That is a ROUS gun!

Graphic (but it is a movie for kids so deal):

Looks like a Navy “Phalanx” without the shroud on it. I never got to see one in action. They were installed on my ship after I left. I have only seen films and videos of them in action.

I recall a novel I read about the AC 47 in Vietnam. And one of the jobs of the load master was to shovel the empties out the door.

I read recently that most modern aircraft do not eject empty shell casings.

Not sure, but when it comes my turn to shoot, all of my shooting buddies go and stand immediately in front of the target.

They've obviously seen you shoot and know where the safest places are.

All modern fighter aircraft do not eject the spent shells. Fired rounds are returned to the ammunition drum.

Depending on the helo, the gun(s) either eject the empty brass overboard or recover it into large containers to minimize the FOD hazard. Same is true for the AC-130.

They are using 4  M134 Miniguns. The M134 fires 7.62X51 NATO ammo. Depending on how the gun is configured, the rate of fire between varies 2000 and 6000 rounds per minute.

At $1.30 a round with all 4 miniguns firing a 2000 rounds per minute, would cost $173 a second or $10,400 for a full minute.

At 6000 rounds per minute, would cost $535 a second or $32100 for a full minute.

Given the vast quantities of ammo needed to feed this beast, you would have to order ammo by the truck load. So, you could probably get the cost down below $1.00 a round.

The M61A1 CWIS (Phalanx) point defense weapon fires a 20 X 102 mm round with a rate of fire of 4500 rounds per minute. The latest variants have a variable rate of fire to conserve ammo as the drum only holds about 1500 rounds. Rounds for the naval version are either a Depleted Uranium sabot projectile or Armor Piercing Tungsten core projectile

The Army put the M61A1 on a trailer and renamed them. The Centurian C-RAM is used to defend military compounds from mortar and rocket attacks. The the sea based version the land based variant fires High Explosive Incendary Tracer - Self Destruct (HEIT-SD) rounds that explode on impact with a target or self destruct when the tracer burns out to minimize down range casualties.

The Navy briefly experimented with a 30mm version but decided the additional cost was not worth the benefit.

We had a tiny one salvaged off a downed Loach. Took a while to get the wiring right. Mounted in a combat loss off the books jeep. Used it for firebase defense. Worked dang good. 😃
