Mama said, "you all remember to wipe your feet"

Mama hollered at the back door, "Y'all remember to wipe your feet".

If you're gonna quote, you oughta quote correctly.

It was the dark of the moon
On the sixth of June
In a Kenworth, pullin' logs
Cabover Pete with a reefer on
And a Jimmy haulin' hogs
We was headin' for bear
On 'I-1-0
'Bout a mile out Shakey Town
I says, Pig Pen this here's the Rubber Duck
And I'm about to put the hammer down

Thank you for clearing that up. ‘Cuz I don’t remember nothin’ ‘bout hammers and rubber ducks in “Ode to Billie Joe”. 😄

I think I’ve acquired ADD from trying to follow these “ricochet” threads in the Saloon. Another round on me barkeep!

Something I always wondered about that song.

It's a little family farm. Daddy and brother and sister work the farm.

Brother got married and moved to Tupelo.

The virus got Daddy and he's dead.

Mama's depressed and don't want to do nothing, so she's obviously not out working in the fields.

How is Mama and sister surviving? Don't sound like sister's doing much farming, being up on the ridge throwing flowers in the river.

They sharecropping out their farm?

Maybe like Willie says, “It’s all going to pot”!

Boot camp or did you wet yourself....or both?  Don't laugh.  I've seen it happen.

Fifty-Nine years ago I was 13 years old, working in the hay field for a dairy farmer that had baled his hay, riding and stacking on the big truck.    Wound up breaking my back, both wrists, three ribs and being paralyzed when a wooden ramp support beam collapsed as the truck was being driven into the second floor of a nice modern barn, pitching me over the side and falling about 30 feet.  Lay flat of my back for two solid months without touching the floor, paralysis subsided and have been walking ever since.  Have been blessed all these years to have survived.....

“Was another sleepy dusty delta day…”

But meanwhile, at the hospital at Carlisle Army Barracks, Pennsylvania, Pulp was making a rather loud entry into the world.
