I had a place in California where I paid with two $2.00 bills.  The girl at the register called the manager, who called the police.  The manager still refused to take them. I called the owner after threatening to peel this punk.  The owner asked to speak to the LEO in charge.  They told him the bills were legit and he told the manager to give me the stuff (list price about $96.00) that I was buying for nothing and to set the bills aside.

 

I now carry a $2.00 bill in my wallet for good luck.....just like my father-in-law did.  I got it fresh from the mint maybe six years ago.

In NC liquor stores are state run.  The ABC board that controls my county and the one to the south has these rules for payment:

 

- No coins larger than a quarter

- Sum of all coins tendered cannot be more than $1

- No $2 bills

Back when I was a young Marine, I used to frequent the bars in Jackson N.C., as many of us were wont to do. There a lot of bars that had.. dancing girls. Among other things, these girls acted as waitresses and took drink orders. But there was one particular bar that kept a stockpile of the Susan B. Anthony Dollar coins in stock to give back as change. At that time, a beer cost a dollar and a Quarter. So if you gave the girl a $5, $10, or $20 Dollar bill you got a handful of coins back as change. Since a SBA Dollar wasn't much bigger than a Quarter, and the lights were dim, the hope was that as the night went on, and you got drunker, you might not notice that when she asked to keep the change as a tip, she wouldn't just be getting a $.75 tip, but you might give her several SBA Dollars too.

Ours is a little more difficult, but not impossible, to counterfeit. The bills are all vinyl and coloured differently, in addition to a hologram.

At the current exchange rate, it's probably not worth the material needed to make the the 5 and 10 dollar bills! LOL

I helped some friends clear a house of a relative who had died.  She had fifty one 36" plastic tubes filled with silver dollars.  We also found almost $70,000.00 in hundred dollar bills under the built in drawers in her trailer house, and steel "cashier's box" with obsolete stocks, something like thirty cartons of Pall Mall cigarettes (and she hadn't smoked in twenty years),  hundreds of carefully cleaned aluminum pans like TV dinners used to come in, and bunch of other things the old gal had hoarded.

 

The stocks turned out to be for the old red car trolly system in LA.  They had been bought out by a railroad company and the kids cashed them in for a few thousand dollars.....and a collector gave them $200.00 for the box ans several stocks that weren't still viable.

 

Ninety + crucifixes made of various metals (gold.solver, brass, aluminum and some gems.....and she wasn't a Catholic), S&H Green Stamp books, and a plethora of other things.  She lived through the Depression and hoarded all kinds of things.  Her net worth turned out to be over a million dollars and she lived in a two bedroom 35 foot trailer in an old trailer park in Fontana, California...in 1978. 

 

The family gave me a .41 Colt third model "deringer" (Yeah, I spelled Deringer the right way) for helping them.

When my Grandpa passed and the family was going through the house they found money stashed everywhere.  Socks stuffed with 100s, mason jar in the toilet tank... it was crazy where all they found money.

 

He raised a family during the depression.  There were 5 lb. coffee cans in the garage full of bent nails and others full of the last 1" of welding rods.

I wonder if they take "scrubs money", from doctors and nurses? Since scrubs don't have pockets, they stick the money in their crotch - at least they do on several different TV shows and movies I've seen.

My wife is a CNA and wears scrubs. They have pockets.

Not only that, we can wash it!

Here's what the reverse side looks like on some of them, although the reverses do change from time to time to commemorate people or events.

Since The Queen is Dead, have they discontinued all your notes with her picture on them, and released new ones with Charles's pic?

 

I assume they would still be legal tender, even if they had been discontinued. They would just get pulled in and replaced with new stuff whenever they show up in the bank.

That will take some time as there is no rush. The vinyl notes last much longer than paper.

I understand the $20.00 bill is in the design stage and will feature His Majesty's face.

The coinage design is ready, but I don't think any have been struck yet. His visage will, of course face the opposite direction from our late Queen.

I remember Daddy used to have some Canadian halves with her grandfather on them. He looked to the left.

 

 

But while looking for a picture of that George V half, I found a Victoria half. And she's facing left.

 

 

So now I'm confused. More than normal. Why is Elizabeth facing to the right while everyone else is facing to the left?

  i had a 1923 george the Vth coin , it was in the marking disc hole in the stock of my same date enfield no1 mkV - one of 20, 000 made trials rifle that predated the no4 , these were never meant to be released as they didnt pass trials [the mkVI did] but dunkirk resulted in a shortage of rifles that was met by pressing all the rifles and all the parts into service , mine was a complete and all original rifle in excellent condition ,

Victoria faced left. Edward VII faced right. Then George V - the coin I posted - left again. His son, Edward VIII faced right. Then he abdicated to marry Wallace Simpson and become the Duke of Windsor and his little brother, George VI, faced left. Elizabeth II then faced right, so Charles faces left.

Just that the current King or Queen is facing is opposite of the previous.
