Anyone Else Watch The Indy 500?

Watching Indy has been a tradition of mine for, well...ever since I can remember.

The combination of speed, danger, brilliantly engineered cars and fearless drivers has always fascinated me.

Never been there in person, but hope to go someday.

Green flag today at 12:30pm (mol), EST of Fox.

I'll be watching it.

Add in the physical endurance required.  The heat,  noise, and vibration take a toll.  Add in the the arm strength and the mental focus of driving close to 200mph only 2 inches from others.

Then there is the ballet of Pit Row.

I used to.

Don't have regular TV channels and no way to watch it streaming that I'm a ware of (and I'm not willing to pay to watch it).

It'll be interesting to see if Kyle Larson can repeat the feat of Tony Stewart back years ago and complete all of the laps both at Indy and Charlotte. Don't forget, Larson could have won Indy last year had it not been for the brain fart penalty of speeding on pit road.

I just hope it's a safe race but not much is safe at 230mph although the SAFER barriers and the head/neck restraints have dramatically reduced deaths and serious injuries.

Yep, but I am pissed off about not being able to watch the NASCAR Coke 600. This year NASCAR has contracted with Prime for 5 races and I don't stream from my computed as the download speed is too slow. I live pretty rural and don't get great internet service and download speed.  MONEY TALKS in todays world as Prime is going to pay a whole lot more than networks do.

Yeah!  I watch it! Got started REALLY watching in the fifth grade in school. My teacher that year was a huge race fan and we had to go to school in spite of the fact that it was a holiday because we’d missed so many days of school for weather. Mr. Shields was PISSED!

He turned on the TV which he’d reserved from the audio-video lab and we watched the race from beginning to end!!  Not much else was learned that day!! :FlagAm:

Been watching it ever since!

Although Prime is offering a supposed 30 day "free" trial, I don't like it at all. Nothing but pay per view in my opinion. NASCAR it taking any offer they can these days since they have managed to destroy stock car racing with their DEI efforts and their determination to make the cars the same. I'll watch because my gal can't live without Amazon, I don't pay for it...so that's a good thing. I'll also watch it with the volume on mute as E Jr. is one of the broadcasters and he just annoys the hell out of me.

It appears I was mistaken on streaming - YouTube is streaming the race on the INDYCAR on FOX channel

EDIT:  Only showed first 10 laps live.😒

Guess I'll go reload.

Nope, absolutely no interest at all. Enjoy!

Way past butchery. She should never have a microphone in front of her ever again.

Just saw Mario, still looks pretty good for his age.

A little joke, probably true...

Emerson Fittipaldi with Mario as a passenger was pulled over while in a private vehicle  near Indy for excessive speed. The cop said "Who do you think you are, Mario Andretti?" Mario leaned over and said "No, I'm Mario Andretti, this is Emerson Fittipaldi."

No kiddin'.

Looked 'er up, and Google's AI response was this:

At the 2025 Indianapolis 500, Natalie Grant sang the national anthem. She is a nine-time Grammy nominee. Grant's performance was well-received, with some believing she should sing the anthem at every Indy 500, according to Men's Journal. A video of her performance is available on YouTube.

Good Lord!!  I hope not!

Well, so much for "Artificial Intelligence."  More like the "Saccharin of Smarts."

(I just made that up) ^_^

Interesting race.

Mclaughlin out during warm up.

Andretti out before the green flag but after lap count started.

#20 car catching fire in pit row...I  bet Rossi said,  "Well,  shucks!" when he threw his gloves.

I sometimes wonder what the voters for the Grammies smoke!!

Congrats to Palou on the win. Makulas ran a good race also.

Too bad for Larson, he crashed the same way in practice.

A lot of trouble on pit road which surprised me somewhat.

The filming was okay, I guess. Way too many commercials and 1/2 screen broadcast. I sometimes wonder why I bought a big screen tv when most of the time I watch sports it's on 1/2 screen 45% of the time with ads or useless commentary.

Oh well, on to Charlotte.

Just drug out my TV remote to try to find which input I have Amazon prime on.  Took a few minutes of stumbling around the controls, but it’s all cued up!

I was flipping back and forth between the SEC baseball tournament and the 500 and I missed whatever put Newgarden out.  Reckon I’ll have to catch one of the half dozen reruns later tonight.

Congratulations to the Vanderbilt Commodores on their fifth SEC Tournament Championship!!

Natalie grant.  It was bad enough that I wouldn’t link it.

Ditto.

When it got to the last half lap I started thinking,  "Dang! That's what,  25 laps or so without a flag?  Will we finall...."  and then the caution came out.

Cool pace lap.

That was something! I've never seen that before. Boy, those choppers were lower than the grandstand it seemed like. Must have been a real thrill to see in person!

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!

The National Anthem, sung just now at the World 600 in Charlotte, should be a template for how it’s done!!

I’ll say no more!!!

It was a really good World 600!  A good race and the coverage was better than average by far!

I am NOT displeased with the broadcast. It was practically glitch free and the picture was VERY good! Numerous camera angles and better interviews.

My first time watching a race on Prime.  I’ll definitely be watching the rest of their broadcasts!  It cost me less than $20.00 for the dongle to get the broadcast and since Schoolmarm has Amazon Prime, the viewing is practically free!!

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the broadcast, picture was good, camera work good and good to see Carl Edwards again...wish he still raced. I have to be honest, I watch almost all sports, especially auto racing and baseball, with the volume on mute. Still, way too many commercials for me though. The next 3 or 4 races are also on Amazon if I read it right.

I notice that you still call it the World 600, so do I just as I still call the (used to be) July race at Daytona the Firecracker 400.

I fell asleep about halfway through the race and woke up with 10 to go. Glad to see Chastain win...started dead last. I don't know if anyone has ever started last and won the 600 before, probably not.

Mrs. Sun has Amazon Prime, so I didn't have to pay anything. She orders a lot of stuff from there, occasionally she'll order something for me is I ask nice!

I watched some of the opening ceremonies, National Anthem was bad, I turned it off a little while after that.

Yeah!! Schoolmarm has a Prime account and I have her pick up a lot of stuff that I need.  Saves me from driving all over town and dealing with outfits that are too far away for convenience.

We get a lot of my gun stuff through Amazon and save money on purchases AND shipping!

This was the first time I’ve really tried to use the Amazon Prime TV service and I have to say that once I get a little more adept at navigating the system, I’ll probably be using it more frequently.

Are you talking about Indy or the NASCAR race??

The lady that sang the anthem at Charlotte was pretty darn good!!  No personal embellishments and she hit all the notes well!!

If I had to base my viewing of auto racing, or any other sport for that matter, on that abomination....I'd never watch auto racing again.

This was the first NASCAR race I have watched in... at least ten years... probably more.

Two things struck me:

1. It wasn't an hours-long drafting session.  They were actually racing.  Except...

2. When it got down to ~ten laps left to go in the "stage" (at least 1-3) it was like they quit racing.  They all seemed to settle in and just ride it out until they could get in the pits.  I don't like these stages.

Agreed.  There were a few of times I thought, "How in the HAY did he get that thing pointed back in the right direction?!?"
