Alpo Posted May 9 Posted May 9 There was a thread on another board. It got locked, which I suppose was because it got political. Anyway. The question was, if you had $1,200, what would you get. One guy was going to get a rifle and a pistol that shared the same cartridge, along with a holster for the pistol and some ammunition, and a 12 gauge shotgun and some 12 gauge ammo. I haven't bought a gun in years. So I'm not really up on gun prices, but I don't really think you could get all that for 1200. Maybe a Hi Point carbine and a Glock in 9 mm, with an Uncle Mike's holster and a couple of boxes of steelcase ammo, and a single shot break open shotgun with a couple of boxes of birdshot. But otherwise - you think you could get that for 1200? Quote

This ^^^^^ for $1200? New - No! Used - probably IF he dropped the shotgun. No if he doesn’t. If I had $1200 to use for a new gun related something I think I might get me 2 Sig P365 pistols. Quote
Alpo Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 I don't think most of the responses were serious. One guy had found a Colt officer's model match in 98% condition, and he said if they could come up with another $1,200 he could go buy that. One guy was going to use it for a deposit on a double rifle. When I saw the title I didn't even bother reading it. Then I saw that it had been locked, so I read it to figure out why they closed it. 1 Quote
Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428 Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Sure, no problem. Heritage arms 22 $160 ruger 10/22 $270 maverick 88 12ga. $269 Didnt say he was after centerfire, and I sure hope he didnt expect to get top shelf. But it can be done. 3 Quote
Spiritmaker Posted May 9 Posted May 9 (edited) I always had a hankerin for a pair of 1851 Navies with the 38LC conversion cylinders. That should tear a chunk outta $1200. Edited May 9 by Spiritmaker Quote
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted May 9 Posted May 9 (edited) Taurus GX2 9mm, about $300 Ruger PC Carbine 9mm, about $500 Mossberg Maverick 12ga., about $300 Cheap kydex holster, about $30 That's $1130, so $370 , $70 for ammo. So yeah, if you're not looking for expensive stuff, you could do it. IF you shop the right places. I'm a dumbass. Pat Riot pointed out that it's $1200. So, maybe not. But you could still get some ammo. $70 will still get a couple boxes of 9mm and a box of 12ga. Edited May 9 by Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 I'm a dumbass Quote
Rip Snorter Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Hit the deals on GrabAGun, easy! No, I don't work for them. Quote
Chantry Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Ruger RXM w/3 extra magazines =$485. SKS or Mosin - Nagant, less than $600. Quote

Good thinking, never thought of .22’s but there’s a lot of options in addition to yours. Ruger Wranglers a pair for $600.00 Henry Lever action .22 $400 and you have $200 left over for ammo Quote

Creeker, SASS #43022 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I'm assuming we are talking "prep" for survival on an event that hasn't happened yet? So we can still purchase guns, ammo, etc. at today's prices and availability? I do a lot of business with Palmetto State Armory; so I didn't bother to check any other sources. $1200.00 (And I just verified all these prices as accurate and the firearms available). PSA Dagger Compact 9mm $299.00 Glock 19 "clone" that, in many ways, is superior to the Glock and I would not hesitate to trust my life to one (just bought one for Desert Scorpion for a new carry gun). PSA AR-15 clone flat top 5.56 $399.00 We all know what AR clones are - (at the price) I have been very impressed with what I have seen from PSA. Maverick 88 12ga. Pump Shotgun. $250.00 For those who don't know - Maverick is Mossbergs "budget" brand, comparable to a mdl. 500. $950 for 3 NEW firearms. A concealed carry pistol, long range defensive rifle and a close range shotgun. Leaving $250 for ammo, holster, slings. It can certainly be done and with decent quality firearms with respectable capability. Quote

No, this wasn't any sort of "prep" as I understood the question. The OP just said you have $1,200 to spend on firearms. What would you buy? And that one responder said he would get these three guns. The way gun prices have gone sky high in the last few years, I was just curious if you would be able to do that. Apparently you can, based on a couple or three replies in this thread. Quote

I thought we were putting together the best three firearm(s) for a purpose. But if you're just handing me $1200.00 and saying go buy a gun... And assuming, I don't need to buy duplicates of things I currently own; so I'm just buying something I would like to own. At $1200.00... Likely a CZ Shadow 2. 1 Quote

So what you going to do with the 12 gauge ammunition? Quote

Rye Miles #13621 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I buy locally only. I’m within 20 miles of 5 gun shops , 30 miles from 2 big local sports stores. No shipping for me, I never buy online unless it’s something I really want on SASS Classified. The last gun I bought online was 3 years ago from Barleycorn here on the SASS CLASSIFIED. It was a Taylor’s 1873 rifle. 1 Quote

No shipping for me, Not having anything to do with this thread, but I've found some REALLY good deals on Gunbroker occasionally. The Cimarron Tombstone Special I got recently only cost me $400, including shipping AND FFL fee. They normally sell for $800- $900 or more, and the lowest I EVER saw was at a gunshow where a guy was selling his for $500, and that was several years ago. Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 (edited) I bought a Rossi ‘92 in .45 Colt last Christmas for $407.00. You can buy the Taurus Deputy in .45 Colt from Sportsman’s Wearhouse for $469.00 We just had a thread on a new coach gun with synthetic stocks for around $270.00. At $1,146.00 for the guns, I’m sure there’ll be some shipping and FFL fees, but you could get damned close for all new guns! No ammo though! These are all SASS legal guns too!!
