Contemplating buying a CZ to retire my old trusty Stevens 235 Hammer double. The Stevens was my very first SASS shotgun and has served me well over the years. My only complaint is the hammer ears are short and the springs are heavy, making for slow (even for me) follow up shots. I want something a little nicer than the TTN's but not as spendy as the "Wyatt Eart" or "Doc Holliday" shotguns. The CZ seems to fill the bill.

I've watched a few Youtube video's, and it appears to be fairly easy to cock both hammers and the safety does not come on automatically.

I'd like to hear from anybody who shoots one, or anybody who knows someone who shoots one or anybody else's comments regarding same.

I bought one, have not shot it in a match.  Well made and finished but stiff to break and cock - I even sent it back to CZ, came back improved but not competitive.  If you get one, you will need to get it adjusted for competition.  Nice gun otherwise.

I have one, always had problems with the right barrel not firing occasionally. Sent it back twice. The second time CZ sent me a new gun. Second gun did the same. Then I had two different gunsmiths work on it. Bought a TTN for a back up. CZ sits in the safe now. Shoot the TTN all the time now.

I shot mine for the first time yesterday, very stiff, not match ready for sure, needs some work. I had no problem cocking both hammers with one hand and it fired every time, not much more I could ask of a new gun.

Contact Ken Griner T Griner Gunworks.

If he has one in stock, he can work his magic on it and ship it out, no need to look elsewhere for the best available.

I have one for sale on this site. I shot it in a couple of matches and like others have said it was very stiff and hard to pull the hammers back.
I asked Johnny Meadows to go over it and it feels perfect now.
I’m asking $1,000.
Let me know if you have questions.

thanks Pard

I like my CZ Hammer Coach Gun very much. I lightened the hammer springs myself and did a bit of smoothing and polishing. It drops open on command and is easy to cock. No misfires and shucks AA LNLR shells with ease. It handles GOEX just fine as well.

I have a CZ Hammer Coach and it was extremely stiff to open and hard to cock when new. I had it worked on and it is better but it is still difficult to cock by sweeping. Shotgun Boogie will not work on them. It is a well-built gun, but I wish I hadn't spent the money on it. It is the biggest issue holding me up from improving my times.

I have been shooting one for 2+ years and thousands of shells later I have had zero issues with mine. It has been a great gun.

I like mine, I had to do some work on it to get it to run good but I'm happy now.

I think the one Paydirt Pops has for sell would be a good chose, fare price and all the work has been done by a well known shot gun smith.

Just saying.

Shooting mine for 3+ years......love it!

Yes stiff when new, after a few (make that a lot) of cases....now its a LOT nicer to open.

Zero issues with it.

P.S I lucked out with some ridiculously beautifully figured wood with mine.

If it's as stiff to open like they all seem to be.. set in living room and open and close it until your wife hits you with a frying pan.  Then shoot a flat of shells through it. It should fall open then.

Thanks Warden, and my head already has a frying pan shaped dent :D

I have a CZ Hammer Coach that I shoot in classic cowboy. When it was new, like everyone else has said, mine was stiff to open.

I ended up open/close, repeat, watching TV - to loosen it up.  I then went out to my hunting lease and shot a lot of buckshot and heavy bird shot (Blowing up cabbage, soda cans, etc...) That helped a ton.

I also ordered a spare extractor for mine. I ended up shaving the top of the extractor so that only the bottom has a radius, while the top now does not. This stopped me from having the extractors spread my shells out while loading. (Hence why I said spare, I can return it back to original at any time) (See pic below) You'll see the extractor in the gun that I ground off the "ears" and you'll see the factory ejector next to it in my hand. (Yeah I didn't do a great job in grinding off the ears, but it works well for me.) - Like I said, I can always return it to stock since I have the original unmodified.

I shoot an internal hammer CZ and have this problem if my primers are loaded flush or slightly below flush. I reload all my shotgun shells and leave the primer seated slightly high or proud, fires 100%. I think it needs a slightly longer firing pin.

Pretty much the same for me. I have a CZ Hammer Double and it's beautiful. It's difficult to open and the hammers are stiff.  I also shoot brass shells because I'm a dork and I like to. I know the combination is slowing me down (along with not practicing) but I don't care.

My two gripes (aside from it being stiff) is 1: the black chrome finish doesn't look like bluing and 2: the black chrome finish may not be as wear resistant as blued steel. Where the barrel rubs against my car is already shiny and bare steel, that didn't happen with my vintage Lefever Nitro Special I was shooting before.

I have 2 of the internal hammer Sharptails that I got from Ken Griner. He does a lot of work on them before sending them out. Check out his web page and see if he has a hammered model for sale.
