Neo Bandito, SASS #68435 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 At local and a few state matches, I've seen shooters draw their revolvers from holsters but then placed them on the table when finished when pistols were shot last, though it was not written into the stage description. The SHB pg15 does not seem to support this - is there a rule I'm missing? Or should these be a procedural? And if the stage description does state something like 'can be staged in holsters or on table', do they need to return to where they were originally staged? TIA - I realize this is nitpicky....
Marshal Stone, SASS #53366 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Pistols are to be reholstered at the end of the pistol sting. So, if pistols are last you can stage your fired pistol on the prop while shooting the other pistol. Must be holstered before picking up another gun. Marshal Stone 3
Choctaw Jack Posted March 26 Posted March 26 In the matches I've shot around our area, this has become an accepted practice. There has been some discussion about it with the shooters that do it this way seem to take the attitude that if there's no specific rule against it, it must be legal. The other camp seems to believe that if stage instructions allow it,it's allowed. If not, revolvers will be returned to leather. Seems to me that the only advantage would be that the shooter would gain the time it would take to holster one pistol. Probably wouldn't matter to gunfighters or double duelist. Choctaw
Randy Saint Eagle, SASS # 64903 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 As Marshal Stone stated above pistols are returned to leather at the end of the shooting string. It is stated as such and explains a shooting string on pg. 15 SHB. Also pistols do not have to be last to do this, it just doesn't make any sense to do it unless they are last. Unless it is written in the stage instructions pistols that start out staged must be returned to leather at the end of the shooting string also. Revolvers are returned to leather (re-holstered in a safe condition) at the conclusion of the shooting string, unless the stage description specifically directs otherwise (e.g., “move to the next position and set gun on table or prop”). A shooting string is defined as shots from one type of firearm prior to the next type of firearm engaged. Randy 5
Neo Bandito, SASS #68435 Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 It must have become some sort of shooter 'custom' in my area. So it would be fair to assess a procedural if not reholstered?
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L Posted March 26 Posted March 26 If both revolvers are SHOT LAST on a stage, the shooting string and the stage end with the last shot fired. Tabling one revolver before drawing the other in the middle of the shooting string is NOT a procedural. REF: SECTION 9 – GLOSSARY OF TERMS pp.43-44 BOTH revolvers will eventually be HOLSTERED by the shooter in order to take them to the unloading table. 5 minutes ago, Neo Bandito, SASS #68435 said: It must have become some sort of shooter 'custom' in my area.
