Alpo Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 I have taken a few, in my lifetime. This or that job. But this was new to me. Online story, and the high school athlete is taking one. When he goes into the stall to pee in the cup, the water in the bowl is "a bright neon blue". I assume that is to prevent him from diluting his piss with toilet bowl water in the attempt to mask his drug use. But in all the tests I've taken I've never seen that. Has anybody ever taken one where they have colored the water in the toilet so you couldn't put some of that in your urine? Wondering if that's a real thing or if the author just made it up. Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 (edited) A large multinational company bought out the place where I worked and they instituted mandatory random drug testing. Several guys quit and others panicked. With my longish hair and beard, I was tested five months in a row, despite the claim that testing was random. Back then, I did occasionally smoke a little weed and some of the places I played with the band were like standing in a cloud of smoke. I tested negative every time! On the fourth try, I told the lady in Human Resources that they would NEVER catch me!! She frowned and called for the shop manager. When he arrived, I told him that this was the fourth month in a row that I had been ordered to be tested and that I would never be caught! I told them both that my masking technique was far superior to their detection capability. They didn’t like that very much. I took off to the testing facility and when I got there, they had dumped red dye into the toilet and the water to the sink had been turned off. I passed anyway! The very next month, they called me in again. I told them I appreciated the time off with pay and the chance to get lunch on the clock! HR lady was furious! I laughed in her face and told her that she could stand there and hold the cup and I would pee in it while I smoked a joint and she STILL couldn’t catch me. Then I told her that I was going to the testing facility and then I was calling my attorney. I said that with over a hundred employees and only five selections a month that it was statistically impossible for me to be chosen randomly five times in a row! By this time, I had quit indulging and had been doing fraternity gigs for three months! The technician at the testing facility stood and watched while I filled the cup! I left and went to lunch, taking a full extra hour before returning to work. In the next eight years, I was never selected again! The company suffered major losses because of the shutdown during 9-11 and they sold our shop back to the original owners at a significant loss! The front office always looked at me with skepticism and suspicion, but they never tried my case again!! So, YEAH! I’ve seen the dyed water and the rest of their tactics. NO!! That’s a secret I won’t reveal!! I quit all that stuff ten or more years ago and I’m not interested in reliving it. Edited March 26, 2025 by Blackwater 53393 3 1 1 Quote

Pat Riot Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 For pure orneriness I used to leave empty silver goldenseal packets in the rest room at work. I didn’t use the stuff. A friend did. He would give me the empty pouches. @Blackwater 53393 as an electro mechanic and then a supervisor working on passenger trains I could be randomly tested. I went 7 years without a test. One day me and one of the other supervisors were talking and I mentioned this. The next day and twice a month for 3 months straight my number came up. That’s when I knew that supervisor was a Narc. Funny thing is I never partook of weed when I worked for LA transit, but I was suspected of it the whole time. I found this out the first time I left there. People wanted to know my secret. I said “Don’t smoke it. Simple.” 4 2 Quote

Texas Joker Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 Yes it's because blue is the only color the human body doesn't make naturally. I am a DOT collection specialist among other things. I have to blue the toilet and secure all water sources before a collection. Part of the collection process is temp, and observing for discoloration, foaming or smell that might indicate adulteration. 2 Quote

Sabre, SASS #46770 said: Same thing in the Marines when we had to participate in "Operation Yellow Flow". 😒 We had a "Gazer". 😏 The Navy started drug testing in ‘81, if I remember correctly. Anyway, aboard my ship it was discovered that people were cheating. If you got called for a urine test the Corpsman would hand you a specimen container and tell you to “Go pizz in this and bring it back as soon as you can.” Guys like me would make $20-$40 peeing in a container so the guy could pass his drug test. Somehow this was discovered and I lost a very nice money stream…Ahem! Next came peeing in a sample container in the little head in the medical bay. Then some guy had someone else pee in a latex glove for him. He put it down his dungarees and when he was pretending to pee in his cup by opening the end of one of the fingers of the glove. When he popped the end of a finger off the glove the glove ruptured and this poor SOB had some other guys urine all over him. And he got written up and he went to Captain’s Mast. So, the cure was to have the Master At Arms and his self-inflated, self-important staff become drug test monitors. These guys all had inflated egos ‘cause they all wore badges and were like ship’s security and they acted like self-righteous a**holes. They thought they were going to be enforcing rules snd pushing people around but when they got their orders all 6 of them wanted to turn in their badges - they all had other regular shipboard jobs, like; Gunners Mates, Fire Control Tech, combat systems types. The Captain wouldn’t let them turn in their badges and they all became “Pe**er Checkers”! (I put asterisks in place of the “c” and “k”) They had to watch each and every drug test candidate actually peeing in the cup. It sure took those buttheads down a peg or three. 3 Quote
John Kloehr Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 I had to get a pee check for a certain job but they provided 3 weeks to get it done... Asked if I could just go direct from the meeting where they told me of the requirement. Um, no, actually, and never had anyone ask to do it as soon as possible. Took almost 3 days to get the test set up. Went and peed with no special security of dyes but they did have a colorimeter, thermometer, pH check, and something else (maybe total dissolved solids?). Anyway, I passed. With family, a mortgage, and other bills, I could not afford drugs or the time they would take from my life. Now I carry and that is also important to me. But still, this drug thing is kind of out of hand in our society. I used to be more Libertarian about it until I saw what meth did to people, now very much against certain hard drugs but do think recreational control is excessive. Nevada used to have alcohol limits for carry and DUI at 0.10, DUI limits were changed to the national standard of 0.08 a few decades ago to maintain access to Federal highway funds. A few years ago, the carry limit was changed to match the "existing" DUI standard. This is an example of steady encroachment against rights. Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 My combination of diabetic medications causes my pee to foam like hot beer poured from three feet up!! That’d drive the testers nuts!! One of my coworkers tested positive. They’d called before he got back to the shop and HR had him in the office as soon as he walked in the door! They had already pulled his time card!! He went ballistic! He demanded a blood test immediately and told ‘em he would sue their assets off if they didn’t go along with it. He was on the phone to his lawyer when the owner walked in. He got his blood test. The company paid for it. He was clean. The company changed testing facilities. They never tested him again!!! 1 Quote
Alpo Posted March 27, 2025 Author Posted March 27, 2025 I trashed my knee one time. Was out for 3 weeks from workman's comp, and when I came back in I was on light duty. Boss calls me into the office about a week later and says, "can you pass a piss test?" I told him I could, and he asked about the painkillers for my knee, and I told him I wasn't taking any. I was taking Tylenol. He says, "good. Tomorrow you're going to North Carolina." We were doing a job at this location, and our crew got caught in the random piss test. And failed. So they were sent home. The next day a different crew showed up and as soon as they drove through the gate they were told to pee in a cup. And then they went home. I guess if I had flunked that would have been "three strikes you're out" and we would have lost the contract. Quote
John Kloehr Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 Also do wish to note commercial testing (a job) is to a lower standard than judicial testing (thinking of a former relative on probation). A poppy seed bagel does not count as an opiate positive for commercial purposes, it does for judicial purposes. The relative was informed he could not have poppy seed bagels while subject to testing. No idea how strict the military is. For commercial purposes, second-hand smoke will probably not meet the threshold. Passing a "peace pipe" the night before likely would. The company I tested at did one test upon hiring, no random screening, but any injury event one was involved in (as injured or as causing it) required a test. Also damage to more than $500 in company property required a test. When I consider the leeway for 3 weeks to get the initial test, I'm not surprised at how many failed (or chose to quit instead of taking) a required later test. If that company really cared, they would require a test within 24 hours of accepting a job offer, and only give 24 hours to accept it. Quote
watab kid Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 ive only taken those for medical testing in the past , never had a job that required one , but if diluted i would think it would mess up the test and cause you no end of grief , if required by my staff and i saw that happen you wuld be let go , no matter how another test might turn put , i want honest people working for me , i did fire a person for lying about an incident that happened in an osha related inspection , Quote
Dapper Dave Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 We get random UAs all the time. Yes, the toilet bowl is full of blue dye, and the place is secured just for testing, which blows since the closest other men's room is in Communications, which is a restricted area. Fortunately...I'm the boss and I can get in there. Other staff, not so much. I was UA'd in the Navy as well, always laughed. Look what the entire Medical Community did during the Zombie Apocalypse. they called Covid. All of the lies, demands, restrictions, the whole thing. I was fortunate enough to have been pretty much ignore it, but it did a LOT to destabilize our economy, as well as damage our entire way of life. I had a friend who had a "healthy" distrust of Big Medicine anyway, the whole Zombie Apocalypse pushed him over the line. When he got his semiannual Sinus Infection, that he's been getting all his adult life, which was normally treated with an antibiotic, he refused to go get treatment. He wound up hospitalized, on Oxygen. They eventually released him. But the damage had been done. It killed him. I'll never forget that. He was my friend for 50 years. Quote

IMO, the entire "drug testing" thing is nothing more than terms set up by insurers (workmans comp., private/corporate insurers, etc.) to get out of providing coverage for any claims. It's all about the money, has nothing to do with safety or anything else. The employers save a few bucks on providing employee coverage and the insurer save money when the insured tests positive and they can deny coverage. 1 1 Quote

Plus, under Federal Regs it builds an empire for people that otherwise should be working at a counter at 7/11 or a movie theater. By the way, THC will stay in your system 28 days if you use it often. With a one time use the detection period is just a few days at most. 2 Quote

The U.S.D.O.T. mandates random drug screening for 10% of all Commercial Drivers per month, IIRC. But I don't necessarily trust them any more than any other Government agency. But since I've never done drugs, I never worried about it. When I got back from my deliveries and they told me, I just went to where we were tested, did as I was told, and accepted the overtime pay. 1 1 Quote
