Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Spring is officially here, so it's time to replace my "Winter Snowman Avatar" with my normal "Old Fat Guy Shooting Gunfighter Avatar", which I will do after I post this thread. Along with spring also comes the unofficial start of the Cowboy Shooting Season around these parts (The Mid-Atlantic States) and the lock down of the 2025 shooting schedule for Holli and I. It all starts with The Last Stand, the Florida State Championship, in about two weeks and eventually ends with the Carolina Cattle Drive, the North Carolina State Championship, in November. In all, we will be attending 9 State Championships and one Club Annual match. Hopefully, Holli and I will see you at one of these events or somewhere else on the range! 03 – 05 Apr 2025 - The Last Stand (FL State Championship) 10 – 12 Apr 2025 - The Bushwhack (SC State Championship) (This will be our "New State" for 2025!) 02 – 04 May 2025 - Sussex County Shootout (DE State Championship) 23 – 25 May 2025 - North Mountain Shootout (PA State Championship) 06 – 08 Jun 2025 - Thunder Valley Days XXV (MD State Championship) 20 – 22 Jun 2025 - Mason Dixon Stampede (Thurmont Rangers Annual) 28 Jun 2025 - Smoke on the Mattoponi (VA BP Championship) 29 – 31 Aug 2025 - Gunfight At The Double C (VA State Championship) 26 – 28 Sept 2025 - Appalachian Showdown (WV State Championship) 30 Oct – 01 Nov 2025 - Carolina Cattle Drive (NC State Championship) Lastly, with a shameless plug for all the Match Directors out there, if you are planning on attending any of the bigger matches, Get those Match Applications In The Mail As Soon As Possible! I cannot tell you how much it helps the Match directors recruit sponsors and vendors, and that makes for a much better match for YOU! So, where are you shooting this year? 2 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Hey! DD!! You need to add The Black Gold Shootout to your itinerary!! It’s in July and you don’t have anything scheduled for then. It’s the family get-together that you want to attend ‘cause you like everyone that’s going to be there!! Manchester, KY! Ponderosa Pines! Week long party with a bunch of shootin’ mixed in!! More’n a “Bucket List” item on your “to do” list!! 2 Quote
Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 One of these days I hope to participate in the Magnificent 7 series of matches. We were close this year catching 2 of the 7, but until we get a few more things sorted out so Holli can retire, we have to dodge a lot of other things. We have started looking at Campers though! LOL Someday, sooner rather than later, we will hit the road for the season! 3 Quote

Week long party with a bunch of shootin’ mixed in!! More’n a “Bucket List” item on your “to do” list!! We were there last year, and had a great time, heck I even shot it clean! We will absolutely be back again too, but we are still at the point of having to make tradeoffs between Cowboy and that thing they call "Life". With the change of dates for the FL State match this year, we decided that hitting SC State the following weekend worked out well for us and we had to make a tradeoff. I will say that part of the reason that Holli and I renewed our research into Campers this past year was that match. A lot of our Cowboy Friends were camping there for Black Gold and it got us to thinking about it again. I camped with my folks and some other family members when I was a kid, and Holli and I looked into is about 15 years ago, but the timing was all wrong for us. I can definitely see us getting one in the 18-24 month time frame though, right after Holli retires. We'd like to spend a couple years traveling around the Country and shooting some other state matches during that journey while we are still in decent enough shape to enjoy the experience. I have Black Gold penciled in for 2026, but I have to survive 2025 first and the Jury is still out on that one! LOL Edited March 21 by Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L 2 Quote

Another cool place to visit in Charleston is Drayton Hall. https://draytonhall.org It survived the Civil War intact because it was used as a hospital for Union soldiers. It’s super cool feature is the plaster ceiling medallions and work! They raised the floor on the second so as not to disturb the ceiling. The first time went there I was maybe 18-20? And I loved it! That says something! Middleton Place Gardens is another. Im sure I’ll come up with other ideas for you. Safe travels. Hugs! Scarlett 1 Quote

Dapper Dave Posted March 24 Posted March 24 I can't travel anywhere and so far I only shoot with Rio Salado Cowboys, but that is always subject to change if there's a match somewhere close someone invites me to attend. Other than that I will do my dangest to attend every monthly match at Rio Salado here in AZ, even though it is an hour and ten minute drive each way - those fine people are worth it! 1 Quote
