I've noticed that all restaurants that the people cooking don't wear hairnets anymore. Is this a thing of the past? I seem to remember cooks and fast food preparers all wearing hairnets. I thought this was a Health Dept. thing but no more I guess.

Hey I'll take a couple strands of hair with my fries thank you!:o

It’s a health code thing.  Either changed regs or lax enforcement.

Food Safety Hair Rules? Who is Required to Wear a Hair Restraint While Working?

Long but interesting article. I see very few examples of this. I haven’t seen anyone with a hair net on except for pictures and videos of high end restaurants that I never go to.

NY requires snoods for beards.

California too.

Here in WV I mostly see hats being worn. Some hair nets.
I have only been in one restaurant here where two of the cooks had beards that weren’t covered. I ordered a coffee to go and left. I did tell the cashier why I was leaving and walked out.

Going one step further…

if food is going directly to the customer, which means is not going to any more cooking, gloves must be worn.

never see that on any of the cooking shows, rarely see the hair covering either.

I see people wearing gloves at restaurants but generally no head covering.

I’ve seen few cooking shows for a couple minutes at a time and never seen anyone gloves either.

I've noticed that the quality of service of almost all commercial businesses have gone straight to hell in all aspects ever since the beginning of the plague. This seems to be especially true in the food service industry. I think it's due to restaurants/etc. being forced to hire anyone that can walk and/or breathe to staff their business. It's almost like the owners/management is afraid to say anything to the people they hire lest they quit.

Seems like the "inmates" are running the show and the "guards" are afraid to do anything about it.

I’ve seen MORE than that and never seen it. I think the producers decided gloves don’t make good tv, same for requiring head coverings. They’d rather show off Bobby Flay’s, Scott Conant’s and other’s hair, oh can’t forget Alex Guarnachelli!

Well maybe they don’t actually eat the food?😂

The judges do. I bet that if they find a hair they count it in the judging but don’t mention it on air.

as for Giada, nobody watches her food anyway.

The gallopin' grommet did.

When he made something he made enough for two people, plated up two dishes, and went and got somebody out of the studio audience. Then he and the audience member ate it.

And yes, I said grommet on purpose. I've been calling Mr Kerr the gallopin' grommet since I first saw him on television 50 years or so ago.

I'm thinking I need to wear my glasses when in the Saloon. I read the topic as "cooking with Helmets".  I was trying to figure out what required a safety helmet to cook.... or was it somebody so accident prone that they needed to wear one.

Maybe more coffee is required this morning....

Don't worry about it Barney.

If it had said cooking with cast iron, I would have thought this was about using cast iron utensils.

If it had said cooking with butter, I would have thought it was about using butter in different dishes that you cook.

But cooking with hair nets? Do you cook the food in them or do you cook them and eat them afterwards?

See? Your thoughts are fairly normal compared to mine.

Use the hairnet to tie a roulade?

The only cooking shows I watch is Tasting History and Glenn and Friends, and they eat the food they make themselves. BTW, Tasting History with Max Miller is a REALLY neat program, highly recommend it.
