Happy Birthday 🎊🎂

Posted

In Boston it’s remembered as Evacuation Day for when the Brits left town

Quote

The 11-month siege of Boston ended when the Continental Army under the command of George Washington fortified Dorchester Heights in early March 1776 with cannons captured at Ticonderoga. British General William Howe's garrison and navy were threatened by these positions, and they were forced to decide between attack and retreat. Howe decided to retreat in order to prevent what could have been a repeat of the Battle of Bunker Hill, withdrawing from Boston to Nova Scotia on March 17, 1776.

The British evacuation was Washington's first victory of the war. It was also a huge morale boost for the Thirteen Colonies.

But the Irish certainly celebrate it.  B)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I have friends coming over for a traditional meal of  Irish Tea Cake and Corned Beef and Cabbage.

Just started boiling the Corned Beef and I'll start the Tea Cake later.

Mother's side of the family is from Kilkenny Ireland a little while ago. (To Canada is 1806 and this area of Ontario in 1820.)

To the other descendants of the Scharf Clan, Transported to Australia, I hope you are keeping the traditions alive.

Slainte!

My birthday was two days ago.  I used those two days to celebrate NOT being named Sean, Patrick, or Brian.  :P

Tom just fits me better because that's what most people call me anyway.  :D

And it's (Tom) being your name helps with that too!

"Happy birthday, Darlin'."

i remember that greeting well , but they added my first name to it , they were always smiling too - not the case in other parts of the country , in the east coast states a whole different attitude , a bit sour and never warmed to us being there

thats what i got when i was in oklahoma im not sure why they did that for illinois.iowa transients but they did , they treated us really well , we did spend a lot of money but im not sure that was a reason , ill not say inhospitable , i had my good days there bu way different attitudes , so yes oklahoma is the south - look at a map for heavens sakes , its south

Oldest daughter and youngest grand daughter Happy Birthday....Even with the mix of Chinese blood in them....

That puts some spice to them.  My first DIL was Mexican.  My new DIL is a wonderful black lady who is too good for my son(and he realizes that), but love does strange things to people.

My wife was too good for me, but God created her just for me and I couldn't have asked for anyone better.

Went shopping on the 17th, checked my change that night and there was a large copper coin in the change, turned out to be a 2007 copper 5 cent/euro from Ireland, thought it was pretty cool to get that in change on St Patrick’s day here in the USA, going to hold on to it just in case there’s a wee bit of Irish luck clinging to it
