Might have been some large breed; didn't look like it was going very fast, but then again, it didn't need to with that criminal!

The two handed rein hold was a bit disconcerting. I would have expected a left hand hold  and neck reining, freeing up the right.

Yeah, not sure how they certify their officers for the equestrian department but this lady has no idea how to ride. Plus the horse didn't look like it had gone through any training to become a police horse. This was a sad video of police work.

I recall the first time I saw mounted officers.

An escapee from the State Pen made it to Perry County.

The Sheriff's Office had a mounted auxiliary.

I recall standing on the sidewalk in front of Bob Parson's Red and White, grocery store, looking up with awe and with wonder at these men, horseback, wearing genuine Stetsons, with shotguns propped up on their thighs, and feeling a nine-year-old's soul-deep hero worship!

(They'd stopped in at Bob's grocery store to get children's balloons. It started to sprinkle and they stretched brightly-colored latex over the muzzles of their shotguns to keep the rain out)

(That didn't matter to me. I was nine years old and all of a sudden Matt Dillon was no longer limited to the black-and-white screen!)
