Alpo Posted March 9 Posted March 9 The Danny and Louie thread. It has ended up with people talking about scatting. Many many many many years ago Rich Little had a variety show. One episode had Scatman Crothers. He was trying to teach Rich how to scat. I went looking for that video - couldn't find it - and then went looking for any video or even audio of Scatman singing MY BABY JUST CARES FOR ME. Couldn't find it. But while searching I came upon his wiki page. With this, most astounding, statement. Crothers became the first black person to appear regularly in a Los Angeles television show when he joined Dixie Showboat. Notice - it does not say he was the first "African-American". Says he was the first "black person". My first thought was I had fallen through a wormhole and gone back in time 40 years, but then there wouldn't have been internet, so it just astounded me. 1 Quote

Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 (edited) ALPO, your mention of Rich Little triggered this Olde Timer's memory: Our Purchasing Association local district used to hire him for "Ladies Night" for about $25.00 Another tid-bit: They used to hire Paul Anka to sing at these events. His fee ranged from $5.00 to $15.00,then a song came out called "Diana" and they couldn't afford him anymore. Paul had been recommended as a singer for the first Ladies Night by the Director of Supply's secretary, a lady named Diana Ayoub. I met her by chance when she dropped in one day to have a coffee with her girlfriends. Edited March 9 by Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 3 Quote
