I’ve got a Taylor 1873 Comanchero 38/357.  This rifle is factory short/stroked and tuned and I’ve been pretty happy with it.  Not as slick as my Mirakou ‘73 race gun but I don’t shoot it much ‘afraid of breaking something.

has anyone added an aluminum carrier and PGW lever and hammer spring kits to a Comanchero?  Is it that much better?

Personally, I have not.  Reducing the reciprocating mass can increase the speed of cycling by one or two thousands of a second.  I personally never liked the PGW Side Spring things.  Were I to suggest, I do like SlixSprings side springs (may need a tiny bit of fitting).  Reducing the lever side springs will reduce the felt effort to cycle the action.  many of these changes are immeasurable perceptions.  Your Call.

Well, I was all in on aluminum carriers until I wore one out. It takes awhile, but they really don't work as well in my opinion. I probably got rid of 3 or so. I like lightened, skeletonized brass ones. And, the aluminum ones just don't sound right, no clickety clack! I will say that the pioneer carrier is taller and allows reloading over the top easier and more successful. Just my thoughts.

I ran an aluminum carrier for a short time - didn't care for it.

Didn't sound right, didn't feel right and "seemed to me" to require more force to ensure a complete elevator drop down on lever close (suggesting the need for a positive slam down lifter arm) whereas brass seems to work perfectly ok using gravity.

Also the aluminum "seemed" to be more sensitive/ sticky if dirt/ debris got into the action.

I went back to skeletonized brass and have nevet regretted it.

PM me for a contact who does them as I don't want to post it here.
