Dapper Dave Posted March 6 Posted March 6 CAL Ranch down the street from me, of all places, had several tins of #11 CCI Percussion Caps on the shelf. Not as cheap as they used to be at $11 each, but much better than the plandemic scalpers prices of $25 and higher. Nice to see caps again! 2 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted March 6 Posted March 6 DD, off topic, but why'd your target thread get locked? It looked innocent enough to me! Quote

Snide remark by someone about one of his posts. Both of those posts were deleated. I think he requested it be locked and that final post was also deleted. 1 Quote
Dapper Dave Posted March 6 Author Posted March 6 (edited) It is what it is, life is too short to get worked up. I am still stoked that I was able to find percussion caps, especially since I am about to make a coworker's day. She asked me to look over her Armi San Marcos brasser 1851. I had a buddy who is a gunsmith do professional work on it, found a holster, a pound of Pyrodex P I will never use, a powder flask, some .454 balls, and now a tin of caps. All she has to do it buy a powder measure. And I polished the dogsnot out of the brass - that is one shiny pistol. Edited March 6 by Dapper Dave 1 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Try to avoid the Pyrodex . You'll start to hear the gun rust like a 75 Chevy pickup! 2 Quote
Dapper Dave Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 Now you know why I am giving it away, unopened. 1 1 Quote
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted March 7 Posted March 7 You "could" use it for fertilizer, but I think you'd get "rust'd" flowers. Yech 🤮 I'm also with Griff. Well, maybe to someone I really really disliked. 1 1 Quote

Barry Sloe Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I checked the Cal-Ranch here in Tucson. They do have CCI #11s in stock, at $22.99 per tin. I left empty handed. BS Quote
Griff Posted March 7 Posted March 7 In case you're wondering what caps easily interchange... here's a chart I found on another forum that gives dimensions of some of the more common caps. 1 1 Quote
Big Gus, SASS# 66666 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 What is the difference between #10 and #11 caps.? Why is it recommended to switch to aftermarket nipples? A BP novice wants to know, that would be me. Thanks Big Gus Quote

Height and diameter are the two biggest items. As for nipples; try the factory nipples and if they work ... I swapped over to Slix nipples. Just cause. Check your manual for what caps are recommended with the factory nipples. Luck, BS Quote

Luck, BS All the factory nipples on my Ruger Old Armys were reliable. Only one of my Italian revolvers had reliable nipples. I had to replace all the rest with aftermarket nipples manufactured with tighter tolerances. Caps would stay on the aftermarket nipples after firing and all go bang. This was not the case with the nipples supplied on the Italian revolvers. As BS said, give the factory nipples a try (before a match) and see if they meet your expectations. You might get lucky. If caps don't fall off before or after firing and all go bang you might keep them. I just shot the Plainsman at EOT. It was painfully obvious who shot stock factory guns with any caps they could buy locally. I saw lots of revolvers lock up and cylinders that would not fire. A lady from my local club shot a pair of my Remington 1858 revolvers with Remington #10 caps on Tesco aftermarket nipples. The revolvers were 100% reliable and she won Ladies Modern. 3 Quote
Griff Posted March 10 Posted March 10 On my 1st 1851 Navy the Italian nipples mushroomed within a year or so. Caps would still go on them, but... reliable ignition suffered, cap jams increased, and shooting it became a chore. With Ampco, then Treso & lastly SlixShot nipples those issues are a thing of the past. And while the remainder of my 1851s are Colt 2nd Gens... I still swap out the nipples... just in case! 1 Quote
