It's starting to get to the point where I don't want to tell people I was born and grew up in Illinois.

Anybody have a place I can adopt as my new hometown/state?

This is why we can't have nice things.

I'll have to get it later. If you can see the bill number, go to www.ilga.gov.

Late for school!

Do you have a link to the text of the bill?  That screenshot is too blurry for me to read

Tap on it and it will open to ridiculousness.

Between that governor and that whacko mayor of. Chicago they’re ruining a once great city and state.

All this will do is stop police from responding to such incidents.  How could that end badly?

I hate having to travel through Illinois.   Gun laws are horrible.  Glad to see it in my rear view mirror.

Many politicians introduce bills that they know will never make it into law.  It's so they can go back to their constituents and say "I tried".

It's only when it makes it out of committee and is headed for a full vote that it becomes an issue.

The claim:

"That crap bill in Springfield that will let anyone claiming "mental illness" to freely attack and beat Police Officers with no fear of actually being charged with a crime picked up a couple co-sponsors:"

What the IL government says:

"Synopsis As Introduced Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that it is a defense to aggravated battery when the individual battere is a peace officer and the officer responded to an incident in which the officer interacted with a person whom a reasonable officer could believe was having a mental health episode and the person with whom the officer interacted has a documented mental illness and acted abruptly ."

which is essential the text of the bill.

So, it seems that it doesn't "let anyone claiming "mental illness" to freely attack and beat Police Officers with no fear of actually being charged."

While I don't agree with the bill, it's not declaring open season on cops as the blog implies.

May as well be open though. We all know how the defense lawyers operate when it comes to poor Timmy. 😡

The way I read this bill, it gives a terrorist free rein to use anything but a gun to attack a peace officer ....

They are mentally deficient, you know...

I left Pekin, Illinois in August. 1972 and took my wife, kids, and the dog.  I joined the Marines to get out of Illinois and have never crossed the borders since, not even to get from one coast to the other.

No reason to go back.....ever!

Wouldn't it be great if every cop, and I mean EVERY cop, in Illinois quit and filed a suit against the state because of unhealthy and unsafe working conditions.

The maybe the fire fighters and medical first responders joined them.

Just for good measure the National Guard could join them, too.

It won’t be long, the way things are going in Illinois, before the police officer might as well be naked!!  Well, maybe he/she’d still have to wear the body camera, so not entirely naked!!

These idiot legislators keep removing tools from the officers’ belts and refuse to do anything constructive about criminal activity!

It'll get to the point where no one will have any desire to be a LEO in Illinois. :(

I don’t know how a “reasonable officer” can differentiate between a mental health episode, drug induced rage, or extremely drunk person on the spot while being chased by a subject waving a knife.

In a matter of seconds.

Even not being an LEO, if somebody's trying to fight with me, I don't CARE why. I don't care about his mental health, drug and/ or alcohol use and abuse, where he's from, his race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or whether his father ever told him he loved him or not. I'm just going to do whatever I have to to make him STOP.

And I'm too old to fight and too fat to run, so there's probably only one option left...

yes iowa - its close - i grew up there and they are showing great signs these days , i think im proud as of these days - im now in minnesota and wanting to leave as well , im not happy here anymore but too much family to leave just yet , im embarrassed by tim walz and the taxes here are a burden , our government is all democrat

and nothing good has come of it , we are one of the few states that the new AG has filed suit against along with ca , mn , im ashamed of this and in spite of ninty nine percent of this state being red we have the twin cities and rochester and to a small degree duluth that are blue - thats why we have amie klobachar and omar in congress - both a disgrace

Indiana!  A free State with a balanced budget.  Any rural town away from liberal bastions of Gary, South Bend, Indianapolis or Evansville will do.  Rural population is greater than the liberal cities’s.

We are quite pleased here. I meant I need to use another city/state as a birth/growing up place. Instead of . . .
Well, you know.

Do you mean the terrorists or the legislators that thought this crap up and support the new law .

The effect will be that officers will be encouraged to stand by and not get physically involved when someone is being violent or combative or escaping.  If they do assault an officer, the officer will be fully aware that the suspect will not get prosecuted.  Officer or officers will tempted to fully stomp the suspect's a$$ right there on the spot.  This bill will encourage either a lack of enforcement or street justice.  Neither outcome is what the citizens want.
