John Barleycorn, SASS #76982 Posted March 1 Posted March 1 A scammer posing as a real member tried to get me yesterday on my WTB post. Unfortunately my email is out there because of my business. I asked for more pics and to PM me he could not and I ended communication. I notified the real member, I don’t want to disclose his name. He can if he wants. The scammer did use cowboy jargon and even made an email using the members alias. Be careful Pards. 4 7 Quote
Johnny Dollar Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Sorry to hear they tried to scam you! But glad it worked out for you. I don’t know if this has been asked before but why is the forsale group open to the public when only SASS members or merchants can sell? It should be closed to sass only. But maybe I’m seeing the bigger picture. 1 Quote
Chain Blue, BPGF Posted March 1 Posted March 1 . I would say be careful, But there's a lot of good people out there. just not sass members, and they are honest and for some reason other they have cowboy guns or something they want to sell. I got a really nice 1892 src Without the lawyer safety on top he got it from his dad or somebody in a will. So, don't throw the baby out will the bath water. But this is just me. 1 Quote
Hair Trigger Jim Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I'm on another forum where just the WTB section is limited, so outsiders can't even view it. Seems very practical to me. Obviously a buyer can scam somebody too, but limiting the WTB section would cut out most of the scammers claiming to have something they don't. Quote
MBFields Posted March 4 Posted March 4 I had the same issue as barleycorn. They r sneaky. Need to be extra careful. Quote

Only visible to those who create an account. Won't stop all abuse, but does get rid of the scammers who skim email addresses and try to jump in the middle of an active sale. Same for trying to scam those posting a WTB. At minimum, it will force them to create an account. 2 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Even some with longtime accounts have turned out to be scammers. POS . 1 Quote
Rooster Ron Wayne Posted March 4 Posted March 4 It used to be we could do business here with each other with Zero worrying. Sometimes I think this should be a members only sight to post or respond. I know I know I'm just thinking out loud ! Just Sayin. Rooster 1 1 Quote
Yul Lose Posted March 5 Posted March 5 If people would stop posting their email addresses, phone numbers, personal names and addresses in their ads or answers to ads it would cut down on the scammers available victims. Almost weekly someone in the classifieds posts their email address or phone number. The moderators can’t possibly be expected to monitor these things 24/7 so help them out when we see someone post that stuff and report it and it will be deleted. We’re not in kindergarten anymore and these scammers know what they’re doing and helping them out with that personal information is foolish and just asking to be scammed. 2 5 Quote

Yul Lose, I don’t post none of that. However, a scammer got my email account from somewhere. Emails are required for the account set up. Back door to account set up? I posted my name and email to the search function, and got no hits. I even went to copilot with the same information, no hits on copilot. Uriah Quote
