Snakebite Posted February 27 Posted February 27 IMO, if the wind doesn't die down the first wave at EOT should be cancelled for safety reasons. If things are shootable by 11 then we could move forward and reschedule the first wave for Sunday morning. Gust are 45 mph and it is not safe. 1 1 Quote

That area is one of a handful of nation-wide hot spots, for Coccidiomycosus (Valley Fever), an airborne fungal disease. Valley Fever is usually little more than a cold, but it can be a serious and even fatal infection in susceptible persons. Succeptable people should consider protecting themselves (via dust mask) from inhaling blowing dust carrying the fungus spores. (if the ground is moist with no blowing dust, it is probably not a concern) Susceptible people are those who have never had the disease and have no antibodies, or who otherwise have compromised immunity. THIS ^^^^^ Heavy objects falling onto the participants IS a safety issue and a legal issue. Wind at 45mph against flat, heavy objects creates a safety issue. I clearly recall hearing at every match I've ever been to...Safety first, last and always. 2 Quote

Assassin Posted March 1 Posted March 1 We often have extreme winds in Wyoming. When setting up large props at Hell On Wheels we set utility poles. Then, attach the props. Maybe, the Arizona Rangers should reduce the size of some of those facades or cut more penetrations to reduce potential failure. 1999 WR had extreme winds, vendor tents were damaged, dust was terrible. About noon on Friday it just quit. Guns were full of grit, along with everything else. Quote

Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted March 1 Posted March 1 This is what the wind did to the vendor tents in 2013 at Winter Range. That same year it rained and sleeted during the warm up match and my possee was the only one that lasted through 3 stages before giving up and stopping. All the rest that even started stopped by stage 2. At that time stages 1-4 did not have the board walk they do now. Here are some photos from that day. 1 3 Quote

That brown metal box is one of two that had all the Cimarron guns in them. The tent was gone but the guns didn't move one inch. And fortunately for everyone, this happened the night after the main match finished. 2 Quote
watab kid Posted March 2 Posted March 2 that looks a little like here about now - its why i dont shoot this time of year - that and my arthritis and reynolds just prevent it even starting as fun sorry to hear these problems im hoping for better for you , Quote

I dunno, when I was in the military, they paid me to shoot guns in that kind of weather... The wind was fierce down here in the Casa Grande/Marana area, as I had to go down to Marana Airport for some business. Gusts of wind made some of the semis on the freeway REALLY unsafe to be around. The funny thing is the wind ALWAYS blows at the Casa Grande range - one years I had the wind blow my steel target over at the 300 yard line. Bad day. Hope all went well, sorry I missed it! 1 Quote
Billy Boots, # 20282 LTG-Regulator Posted March 5 Posted March 5 My HO at about 8;20 Thursday morning was 7 and 8 should be thrown out. Stages have been thrown out before at Winter Range because of mud. I believe both were not shot equally throughout match, but again, my opinion. We survived. Change in stage 7 was due to Posse Seven's protest to wind on back of targets. Half-a-hand Henri, my awesome deputy, rounded up a couple of shooters to show Matich officials target failure due to wind.. I applaud Wrangler for his immediate call for change after illustration. Fun day ..4 hours for our rotation and 3 more to clean guns. Friday not bad and Saturday good for AM shooting. 1 1 Quote
