Bailey Creek,5759 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I have an WTB post for a Lyman 450. A person sent a message said he has one. Has his email address. Looked at his profile no club, no posts. Says he is located in Loveland TX. No affiliated clubs. With all the scams lately. Anyone know him? Quote
Tyrel Cody Posted February 26 Posted February 26 We can’t see your messages, what’s his alias? I’d be pretty leery regardless. Quote
John Kloehr Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Ask him to post a pic of it in your WTB thread so you can see it. We can't send pics in private messages and folks here (you) do not give out their email addresses on a first date. No pic, no item. If a pic is posted, do an image search. You might find the pic is from somewhere else. I have gone a bit further in some cases asking not only a pic of the item, but a pic with a piece of paper next to it with the screen name (alias) and the date. Once the person posts publicly, can see if someone knows him. Also I note you just posted the request 3 hours ago. If it is a new member here or they have no posts if here longer, I would definitely have questions. 4 Quote
Jim Brown Posted February 26 Posted February 26 For Address you have Loveland TX. I searched and did not have a Loveland, tx come up. Levelland, Texas 79336 cam up on the search. Quote
Spiritmaker Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I just got a message about a WTB add on the wire. Jayher is the handle. Same details. Quote

Jayher joined an hour ago. https://forums.sassnet.com/index.php?/search/&q=jayher&quick=1&type=core_members I would report the PM. Don't delete, don't respond either. And @Bailey Creek,5759, if the same member please post here after doing the same. When reporting, if you can ask, ask for an IP check to see if the person is even in Texas at all. I'm not going to say it is a scammer, I will say 99% of cases like this make the rest look bad. 1 Quote

So within an hour of joining, he has two items people are looking for... Report the PM so someone can take a look at IP addresses, and other PMs from our new member. Don't delete the PM, or there will be nothing for an admin to look at. It might turn out he has contacted others claiming to have everything anyone is looking for... 2 1 Quote
Eliphalet R. Moderator Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Jeesh! Go to the gym, come back, and find a couple of yahoos from Nigeria got on here and were making merry! They're banned. But, stay vigilant! The use of VPNs can make it seem like they're coming from anywhere in the world. If they can't be tracked, (some of the VPNs are very good), in the person's location in their profile, it will say "Proxy/VPN unable to confirm location." I'm using a software program to try and track the origin of every new SASS Wire member. Maria at the office is helping to make sure numbers and aliases are legit. But, nothing is foolproof. Stay on your toes. Eli 3 10 Quote
