Griff Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 My shooting has been severely curtailed since I started driving a truck. I still shoot maybe 10-11 monthly matches a year. I have one of those low SASS #s, but I don't think I spout nonsense... The game has certainly changed since I started... I pine for those days.... mostly because I'd be a younger self! I'd definitely shoot more often if I could afford it... Where I shoot largely depends on if I get a weekend at home... or if on the road, if there's a nearby club holding a match and how well planned my trip was. I often wonder why shipper's seem to wait til Friday to ship stuff, and want it there by Monday... meaning I have to drive all weekend.
SGT. ELI 35882 GUNFIGHTER Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 36+ along with multi-day matches Nationals, State, and nnuals.
Chancy Shot, SASS #67163 Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 My club (Illowa Irregulars) shoots from April to November with an Iron Man in January (couldn't get to the range this year with 6 inches of ice on the bridge.) I shot all those and manage to get to a couple of three-day shots each year. Time management is a big problem. Chancy
Chili Pepper Kid, SASS #60463 Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 April-October- 3 monthly matches each month and 3-5 annual matches.

Look forward to meeting you there. There are currently 5 of us signed up for Classic out of 98 total signed up. Scout I have shot one CC match so far so I'm sure I'll be bringing up the rear. Had decided, before I joined SASS late last year, that I wanted to shoot 45 Colt and I wanted to shoot CC. I had been shooting in the 49er category with my 357's and Marlin rifle until all of my guns were ready. Looking forward to the trip to SC!
Anvil Al #59168 Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 Our clubs monthly matches. 24. Other semi/local clubs normally at least 6 a year. Then add in a few annual matches plus Nationals, Regional, and most the time State. Best guess would be 35-36
Rye Miles #13621 Posted February 28, 2025 Posted February 28, 2025 April - Oct 2-3 matches a month. I also usually do 2-3 Three day shoots a year. All together about 20 - 25 a year
Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L Posted March 1, 2025 Posted March 1, 2025 When we first got started, my wife and I and our two boys (10 & 12 at the time) used to shoot maybe 12 matches a year, once or twice a month was about all our time allowed. When they got a little older we bumped it up a little bit and added a State and a Regional. When they both got out of High School, we added an out of state State match to the list. Then they went to college, got married, had kids, and my wife and I got busy with family obligations. Our kids don't shoot any more, but my wife and I still do. For a lot of complicated reasons, we found that we were not able to make a lot of monthly matches (especially at our home club as I run those) but we started going to a lot of away matches, particularly State or Annual multi-day matches. It kind of forced us to plan farther in advance, lock in the travel dates, and for us personally, made for a better experience by having a Multi-Day Cowboy Weekend instead of trying to squeeze in a day here or there. This year, we will be attending the following "Big" matches along with a few monthly matches when time permits. We did two monthlies in January in Florida and we will hit a few around our home range as well. 03 – 05 Apr 2025 - The Last Stand (FL State Championship) 10 – 12 Apr 2025 - The Bushwhack (SC State Championship) 02 – 04 May 2025 - Sussex County Shootout (DE State Championship) 23 – 25 May 2025 - North Mountain Shootout (PA State Championship) 06 – 08 Jun 2025 - Thunder Valley Days XXV (MD State Championship) (I'm the Match Director at this match) 20 – 22 Jun 2025 - Mason Dixon Stampede (Thurmont Rangers Annual) 28 Jun 2025 - Smoke on the Mattoponi (VA BP Championship) 29 – 31 Aug 2025 - Gunfight At The Double C (VA State Championship) 26 – 28 Sept 2025 - Appalachian Showdown (WV State Championship) 30 Oct – 01 Nov 2025 - Carolina Cattle Drive (NC State Championship) Overall, that's about 22 days of shooting, along with a few others tossed in. I wish it was more, but it's all time will allow for now. As to the Wire, well I tend to come here in batches. I read more than I post these days because I can't type worth a tinkers damn on my dang phone! But, I can put on enough magnification to be able to read my phone in bed!
