Thinking about switching to a double, some say get a model with one trigger. Is there any benefit  Speed etc.

Thank You

I have used both types of SXS and I found no difference in speed.  Muscle memory is the key for a double trigger.  After a while, there is no thinking involved.

In my case, my second finger was really getting beat up by the trigger guard during recoil.  I started using the rear trigger first and then reaching for the front trigger.  That placed my hand further back on the stock.  It took a while to relearn, but after that there was no noticeable difference.  That's my story and I am sticking to it.  YMMV

I’ve had one of the triggers not working on a double trigger shotgun. If you only have one trigger well…………🙄

There are two or three schools of thought.  Having a thought can really hurt.  You can think of a double trigger as TWO single barrel shotguns that mated.  If one side goes down, you always have the other.  Pure speed is often cited.  It's not enough to really make a difference and can get real ugly if the "re-set" fails.  Then there is the combining of TWO Triggers with TWO exposed HAMMERS for that TRUE cowboy look and feel..  basically, TWO are better than one and a Hammer double is bettered still 😇  Burma Shave

For pure speed two triggers using 2 fingers is the absolute fastest. The only time it matteres is when the targets are right next to each other. Split targets negate any advantage.

 Then single trigger.

We have done a ton tests with multiple shooters on this

Last is two triggers using one finger.

Now your reload will make much more of a difference than how long it takes to pull a trigger. If your down to that tight of a difference between your competition I would spend more time on practicing your transitions and loading

I have never been one that shoots the 2nd of a pair quickly, like many good shooter do; BAM-BAM!  Takes me longer to aim than that, so I've never been slowed down by 2 triggers.  I suppose practice could help that.   Although I've considered replacing my double-trigger Baikals with an SKB, I still shoot my TTN hammer guns occasionally and am not sure if going from one trigger back to two would be an issue.  BTW, a couple of my Baikals have the front and rear trigger switched but I never notice the difference when shooting them vs. the stock triggers.

I'm a fan of two triggers, and I put two fingers in the guard. Just have to remember to not pull both triggers at the same time, it packs a wallop!

A popular mod for those shooting two triggers with one finger is to swap the triggers. And this makes sense for right-handed shooters. All set to go for southpaws wanting to shoot it that way. Easier for someone to pick one up and handle it to see why rather than trying to explain it with words.

I do think if I was going to shoot a double-trigger with  one finger, I would rather just get a single trigger gun.

While I like two triggers, I'm not fast enough for it to make a difference, I just like the feel and the skill challenge. I would probably be a bit faster with a heavier SKB than my Stoeger, no matter how many triggers on either.

Only time a double trigger has helped me is when I wanted to take out my frustration on a stubborn target and yanked them both at once. Ymmv

Both my Baikals have swapped double triggers .

I pull them with one"sweeping" motion of my finger. If I use two fingers in the trigger guard , my middle finger ends up getting thumped by the backside of the front trigger.

When I  shoot my Cimarron hammered double, I still use only one finger.

Force of habit, I guess.

Two triggers is my preference. I had a shell once with no powder in it that the wad didn't clear the barrel. I was able to complete the stage fairly easily using just the other barrel only.

I prefer the double triggers primarily because that's what I grew up with and used rabbit hunting, etc.  Operation of the double triggers is pretty much automatic for me and just feels natural.  I did have a really nice single trigger shotgun for awhile and honestly tried to get used to it, but all too often I found myself pulling on the trigger guard to try to fire the second barrel.  As for a speed difference, I can't see that there is much or any real advantage either way and at least the double triggers don't have to reset after the first shot.  Anyway, much of this game is what one gets used to and works for them and double verses single reset triggers on a SXS is just one small item to consider.  Good luck and good shooting to all.
