I just had lupper. Either a late lunch or an early supper.

As I was cutting my meat I had a flashback to an NCIS episode I watched a couple of days ago. I'm telling you (I'm telling you? Damn otto! How do you get "I'm telling you" from TONY) was impersonating this dead guy, and he's at supper cutting his steak. Left hand stabbing the steak while the right hand handles the knife. And Ducky tells him over his earpiece that judging by the calluses on the dead guy's hand, he was left-handed. So Tony switches hands and is now cutting the meat with his left hand. I decided to try that. Doable, although not as easy as cutting it with my right.

And that got me to thinking.

Here in the states we stab our meat with the fork in the left hand (that is, we normal right-handed people do that. Left-handed people are strange anyhow so who cares), then cut the meat with the knife in the right hand, then lay the knife down and pass the fork over to the right hand to stab the meat and bring it up to our mouth.

This, I understand, causes great hilarity in Europe. There they stab the meat with the left hand, cut it with the right, and then still holding the fork in the left hand bring the meat to their mouth.

Our switching hands is just SO DAMN FUNNY.

Not only that, but they eat their peas and potatoes and everything else with the left hand. The only thing they do with the right hand is cut the meat.

Don't try that in the sandbox by the way. The only thing you do with your left hand there is wipe your butt. Eating with your left hand is considered extremely tacky.

But y'all down there in Oz do a lot of things like they do in England. How do you eat? Left hand? Right hand? Switching hands when you're through cutting?

That's the most ridiculous thing, every time I hear it or read it I think what ignorance.
So you live your life with no toilet paper and you clean your rear with your left hand.......but SOMEHOW you magically NEVER transfer anything from this hand to any other part of your body, clothing, surrounding objects or other people.

I routinely switch the knife and fork between hands and I'm right handed.

And who forgot to give Alpo his meds?

Everybody knows that Australians don't use their hands to eat....they use their feet.

By the way, Alpo, there are two hands! The hand on the right, AND THE CORRECT HAND!! Left handed people are the only ones in their right minds!!

The world is built to make it so that those poor people who are doomed to use their right hand can survive!!  🙄.

We southpaws are equipped to deal with your shortcomings!! 🤣

They can't eat with their feet. They are using their feet to hold on so they don't fall off the world.

Maybe they use the three seashells.

Not a bad Stallone flick, haven't seen it in an awful long time.

Seriously though, dinner table etiquette is drummed into most kids in Oz by their parents from a very young age.

No parent wants their child to go and eat at another families table and be judged for having poor table manners.

I liked the scene down in the underground. He smells burgers cooking. Buys one, take a couple of bites, and Sandra Bullock says, "See any cows down here?"

So he looks over at the woman cooking the burgers.

¿Qué carne es esta?

Raton.

Raton? Rat?! (Takes another bite) Pretty good rat.

It's good that they're trained in table etiquette. But you didn't answer the question.

Do they switch hands back and forth like we do in the states? Or eat with the left hand like they do in Europe?

What is the table etiquette down there?

Table etiquette. When my youngest granddaughter was 14 months, they moved to Georgia. So I took Mama up to meet the kid. She had met the older girl 3 years previously, but she had never seen the little one.

The first day we're up there had cold cereal for breakfast. And when I got through eating all of the cereal in my bowl, I picked my bowl up in both hands, brought it up to my mouth and drank the milk.

My mother watched, and then said something to my daughter about "don't know where he got that from". Apparently that is not good table etiquette.

But I've been eating my cereal like that since I was big enough to pick up the bowl. Heck, the little ones in this picture are the bowls we ate cereal out of.

45b4a3a58deca577498082f985621107--pretty

Ours were even yellow.

And I thought that was the reason they had square corners. To make it easier to drink the milk.

Our youngest is left handed but adaps so well he about ambitious. All his long guns are right handed but he shoots bolt action left handed and works the bolt with his right hand. Mary's older sister is left handed.  We put them beside each other at the table so there elbows don't clash. Chris doesn't write upside down.

I've always used the fork with my right hand so I cut with the left instead of switching hands. My question is, for those of you who cut with the right hand and then switch back to the fork, if you're working on something and it's awkward to get to it with the right hand, do you have any trouble using tools with the left hand?

Like I said…. The world is built so that right handed people can survive!!  Us left handed folks don’t need the extra accommodation!! 🤪 😎

My grandfather ate Continental and did not switch hands as done by most Americans.
He was raised as "cultured New England" and stood 6th in his class at Annapolis.

I cut the meat with a knife with my right hand and use my left hand with the fork to put it in my mouth. If that’s unmannerly I really don’t give a hoot!🤠

Your way,  if I recall is classic Old World etiquette.   Also using the fork to hold the food while you cut it, then use the knife to bring it to your mouth.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the hand on the right side is NOT the CORRECT HAND!!

If it weren’t for having made so many concessions to you right handed people’s obvious disability, y’all might find yourselves unable to function!!

All of those things that are made to make your lives easier have been easily overcome by the superior minds and dexterity of the southpaws of the world!! 🤣

When I eat meat on a plate, I can cut with my right and use my fork in the left OR I will cut left handed and use my fork in my right hand. I don’t switch forks and knives back and forth.

I can eat left or right handed. Get your hands injured enough and you get ambidextrous with important things, though I still can’t shoot left handed worth a darn.

My son is a lefty and plays guitar, very well I might add, he plays it like a right hander. What’s interesting is the hand that does most of.  the work is his strong hand. 😎

One time a guy let me try his bow that was made for his sinister.....uh.....left handed inclination.   It wasn't pretty.  At least using the standard Mediterranean Release.

Finally figured it, though.   I used it right handed with the Mongolian (Thumb) Release.

I'm beginning to think that there's something sinister about you ....

Actually, I’m a southpaw!!  “Lefty” has a negative connotation in certain situations!!

AM completely left handed, left footed, and left eyed!! I guess that means that I am totally jn my RIGHT MIND !!

Because we have built our world so that right handed people can survive, I taught myself to eat like someone right handed and I was forced to learn to write with my right hand when I started school, (I could already write with my left before I was five years old) causing the mild dyslexia that I learned to deal with once it was identified.

We left handed people are tasked with keeping the world in order, shepherding the righties through life safely, helping them avoid having to deal with the many things that would frustrate and confuse them if the world was reversed! 😜 🤣

Imagine, if you will, the consternation that you would create if you handed a right handed person a rifle that only had left hand threaded screws!! 😮 🤣

Nope!!  Probably because I don’t drink coffee, but my big insulated drink cup is set up left handed!

The only one in my immediate family that drinks coffee is Schoolmarm!!  She’s left eye dominant, but otherwise right handed.  She shoots her long guns left handed and pistols double Duelist.  When she was competing, she could reload her rifle without ever dropping it off her shoulder and feeding her ‘97 was purty quick too!

Like I said my son plays guitar right handed even though he’s a southpaw. He messes with drums and can play either right or left. He throws and bats left and everything else too. Most left handers are somewhat ambidextrous!

I learned to bat right handed because it put my dominant left eye closer to the pitcher and because my backhand is much more powerful than my forehand!  I can bat left handed, but my judgment is not as good!!

I can place the ball better right handed and sometimes don’t even put my right hand on the bat if I’m not facing a power pitcher.

We had several kids from our youth sports league go on to college and a couple that were drafted. It would really make them mad when I just used my left hand.
