Shamrock Sadie Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Every competitor puts in the time, effort, and grit to improve. While overall rankings highlight the fastest shooter, it’s just as important to celebrate the top-performing ladies for their skill and determination. 👉 Men and women (talking about XX chromosome cowgirls here) aren’t built the same. Men naturally have bigger, stronger hands for running hammers faster, more upper body strength to muscle a shotgun, and longer, stronger legs to drive through a stage quicker. That’s just biology. That’s why cowgirls compete in their own category—it’s not about making direct comparison, but about recognizing skill and grit within our own ranks. When a cowgirl takes a top spot, it’s a hard-earned victory that deserves genuine celebration. 👉A lot of women in this sport put in a tremendous amount of time and effort to be the best they can be. Women are in a league of their own separate from men and we need to emphasize who those top ladies are. ⭐️SUGGESTION: Perhaps at annual and monthly matches we could call out the top 5 or top 10 cowgirls (after all, the National and World already emphasize the top 16). At the monthly matches, the top male shooters are typically recognized when the top 20 are announced at matches. 🏆 Let’s keep cheering for the fellas when they blaze through a match—they are our strong and powerful heroes—but let’s also ensure our cowgirls get their well-earned moment in the spotlight. We’re not just along for the ride—we’re here to win, too. 18 2 Quote

Widder, SASS #59054 Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Great Idea, Sadie. SASS has some mighty fine lady shooters, not only in beauty and brains, but skill with firearms of which most of us men enjoy watching. And admittedly, envy of those skills when those ladies whoop up on us. Small match or large match, I also agree it would be most appropriate to have recognition of those lady shooters. Watching a Lady Gunfighter blaze a stage with both pistols, using live ammo, is something even Hollywood hasn't put on screen. And watching some of our ladies perform with unthought of speeds with their shotguns is awe-inspiring. Takes A LOT of work and dedication and deserves rightful recognition. Keep up the good work! ..........Widder 6 1 Quote
Totes Magoats Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Great idea! Also, did LOCAS disband? I sure don't see/hear anything regarding LOCAS at matches like in years past. Totes Quote
Scarlett Posted February 17 Posted February 17 @Totes Magoats LOCAS is alive and well!! We are more active on FB than on the wire. There will be the Cowgirl of Honor awards as well as Legendary LOCAS at EOT! We are at work at every match every month encouraging one another and welcoming new ladies all the time! 🥰 Hugs! Blackwater 53393 Posted February 17 Posted February 17 GREAT IDEA!!! The ladies SHOULD be recognized as often as possible!! So many contribute so much to the competition and in so many other ways!! Us gun boys appreciate you!! Top Lady should be loudly recognized at EVERY MATCH!! 4 1 Quote
Shamrock Sadie Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 All of the non-ladies SASS categories are considered Open, meaning they are for both men and women (ex: cowboy, senior, wrangler, 49er, b-western, gunfighter, etc). SASS recognizes women in their own categories, as listed in the SHB. SHB v27.6 p.6 “All SASS categories are open gender categories (there are no men’s categories). Base categories may be subdivided by gender to establish categories for women only.” SHB v27.6 p.26 “Overall winners, often including both the top male and top female competitors are traditionally recognized at SASS matches.” 1 Quote
