Cheatin Charlie Posted February 11 Posted February 11 (edited) Saw this on an online auction site. Does this look like an old box or something new. Interesting they are labeled US 45 Colt. I believe Coffinmaker was in uniform when these were still being issued! https://www.proxibid.com/Wood-Ammo-Box/lotInformation/90336892 Edited February 11 by Cheatin Charlie added word 1 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Nope. That's a photo of the M-2130 "Stealth" cartridge box. 2 Quote

Rip Snorter Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Been at the gun game for a really long time. Seen similar boxes, but not markings. One vote for fake. 3 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Supposedly an original 1874 crate. https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-rare-u-s-indian-wars-colt-45-caliber-ammunition-crate-dated-august-17-1874-frankford-arsenal 1 Quote
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Might be worth the $2.00 currently bid. 1 Quote
Cypress Sun Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Isn't marked F R A G I L E....we know it's not of an Italian manufacture. Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I wouldn't call it fake, but rather a poor attempt at a replica. I question both the accuracy of the marking and the dimensions of the crate, as the images that I've seen of originals don't have that verbiage, and the proportions of the crate are different. This outfit has some nice artillery munitions crates: Trail Rock Ordnance 1 Quote
Sedalia Dave Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Unless that ammo crate was sent to a museum right after it was made and stored under carefully controlled conditions; there is no way it is 100+ years old. Note that the auction description makes no claims to its age or authenticity. 1 Quote

John Kloehr Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Neat newish box but would not be worth shipping IMO. Quote
Wallaby Jack, SASS #44062 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 CALIBRE is the correct way to spell calibre. probably the only thing about it that's not fake. ..... oh! .... and that it's made of wood. 🙃 1 Quote

They’re language is just so confusing sometimes… 1 Quote
