Eyesa Horg Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 Wright's Farm in Rhode Island does family style chicken meals. We used to ride the Harley there regularly! " Live to ride, ride to eat" 🤠
Stump Water Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 In the 80s when I lived in Greensboro, NC there was a joint that served family style. They only did lunch. There was no menu or choices. In the morning you called and asked, "What's are we having for lunch today?" They would say a meat, three sides, a bread and a desert. So, early in the morning one guy would call, then holler out over the shipping department (for example), "FRIED CHICKEN, GREEN BEANS, MAC & CHEESE, TATER SALAD, CORNBREAD, LEMON POUND CAKE." Then count hands and tell them. "We'll be eight at 12:30." When you got there that's what they put on the table. You sat at one of the long tables wherever there was an empty seat, so I guess it was more like bunkhouse style. They served at 11:30, 12:00, 12:30 and 1:00. I never saw an empty seat.
Whitey James Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Back when I was a youngster whenever we would take a trip to the Smokies, my dad LOVED Duff's Smorgasbord! He would eat till he couldn't breathe to make sure he got his money's worth. I remember that the food was on a giant rotating "lazy Susan" type thing where you could stand in place and the food would rotate to you. Not sure if they exist anywhere anymore.

We used to have one of those in Columbus Ohio, right in the middle of an old time shopping center. We'd hit it up on Saturday or Sunday mornings after a night of revelry and drinking. We loved the chicken wings. When we turned our plates in, the top one would have a mound of chicken bones about a foot high on it.
Warden Callaway Posted February 17, 2025 Author Posted February 17, 2025 Question. Do you tip at a buffet? Last Saturday Mary laid down a 5 dollar bill. 3 x $13 so a little over 10%. All the waitress did was seat us and bring us our drinks. Took away plates and brought the bill.

From what I have heard from someone that worked at a buffet is that all the tips collected were divided up with all the staff so the ones keeping the buffet full and clean and those that bused tables also were included in the take for the day. I'll normally leave a $5 tip when my wife and I go out, but that's on a $30- $40 bill, (I SAID I'm a C.O.B.) IF we get good service. At a Buffet, I'll leave $2 or $3, depending on how attentive the waitress/ waiter is.
Eyesa Horg Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 I'd most likely leave a tip if the place was like the few I've been to where the wait staff is busting their tails to keep bowls of food and beverages coming.
watab kid Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 there are bvery few options for a buffet here anymore , used to be few , chinese places still have a sorta buffet set up but thats not my thing , there are still some brunch buffets around here one is at a local golf course , quite good but very busy , i like that one , we still have pizza ranch [golden coral sorta place] that is popular here but my wife and i dont do that , my first wifes family ate at a local "bishops" buffet regularly on sundays that was my first exposure to buffets , my family never did that sort of thing when i was young , and ive not done it since we divorced , i think that is gone too ,
