question about Aussie hamburgers

A good hard roll that doesn’t come apart with juicy beef drippings and toppings, a nice thick slice or slices of cheese melted over thick ground beef that’s mixed with some chorizo and grilled with onion and garlic, a couple of slices of kosher dill pickle, perhaps a nice cold slice of tomato lightly salted, three or so strips of bacon cooked to the consistency and texture of jerky, a few jalapeno slices, a slather of Japanese mayo and an egg fried sunny side up, served with a stack of crispy onion rings and a cup of rich hot au jus for dipping!!

A big banana split for dessert with chopped walnuts, crushed pineapple, caramel and chocolate sauces over a scoop of French vanilla, a scoop of chocolate chocolate chip, and scoop of pistachio.

Sorry!! No place for any beets in this meal!!

If I ever came to Australia I would try burgers your way with “the lot” just to be able to say that I did.
Even though pineapple turns my tongue and my stomach inside out I would do it.

I’ll bet beets on a burger tastes a lot better than veggie burgers made out of beets. :D

I have found the best tasting and most enjoyable burgers here in the U.S. by ordering them and eating them as they come from what ever the cook, chef or restaurant puts on them.

Some of those are pretty good.  Texture is a little different,  but not bad.

And, really,  once you have added the mustards,  BBQ Sauce, onions,  3 cheeses, jalapeños, pickles,  Calabria chilies, tomato,  onion rings,  fries, and runny egg, can you actually tell what the burger patty is?

If I can’t, there’s something wrong with that patty!!

Your palate must be more delicate than mine.  Once I get past the basics of mustard,  catsup, THINLY sliced onions, and THINLY sliced tomatoes the taste of the patty gets muddled.  Add in multiple cheeses, or just a large amount of one strongly flavored cheese, a couple of types of peppers, the bacon,  the egg, the patty is just an afterthought,  almost irrelevant.

Sort of like a stew that you throw half your pantry and two-thirds of your spice/herb rack into.   It's OK, but there's nothing that stands out.

One thing

Here in Australia there is a severe absence of ham in hamburgers ......

               ...... personally, I think it'd make a nice additive ........  🙃

When cooking burgers on the grill, A grilled slice of pineapple, covered by a thick slice of grilled ham, topped by a slice of pepper jack, makes a right tasty burger.

I just remembered,  one time during Lent I fixed a burger for a guy, a dyed in the wool "I ain't eati' no veggie crap" types.  I put on all the fixin's he wanted.  He allowed that it was almost perfect,  one of the best he ever had, he especiallylikedthe very fine grind on the meat.  Until,  when he was half way through it,  I told him it was was a veggie burger.  Instantly switched to hating it.

You're confusing that with bacon. 🤣

I can assure you I could tell. My son-in-law has tried this with me. It wouldn’t work.

I maintain that it's easy to put too much stuff on a hamburger/cheeseburger.  Order a Five Guys double patty cheeseburger with mustard, grilled onions, grilled jalapenos.  That's all.

Perfection.

Schoolmarm insisted that we try vegetarian burgers.

🤢Never AGAIN!🤮

My standard order is patty flipped once with mayonnaise, dill pickle, onion, and cheese!

I don’t always order them that way, but the chains all charge too much for extras and you can’t get a properly cooked egg at ANY of the chains!!

I despise over cooked burgers!! I make sure to tell the order taker that.  I mostly go to places that ask.  Slightly pink inside is “PERFECT”!

Almost perfect!!  Feed the beet to the hogs, chop up the pineapple and put it on the banana split for desert, and throw two of those on the plate!!

Sweet raspberry iced tea with no lemon to drink!!

My favorite burger is melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise (on both halves of the bun). Any restaurant that leaves one half of the bun dry is run by scurvy dogs! ;)

5 Guys makes damn good burgers. Now I’m hungry…

Five Guys does make a purty good burger.

Cookout makes a really good burger! I’m kinda partial to them, as chains go.

For a “set down” place, I’ve found that Red Robin does a great job and they’ll always ask how done you want your burger.

In & Out is just moving into our part of the country. I’ve had their burgers when I was out west and I wasn’t that impressed, but I suspect that during their opening cycle, they will be trying hard to impress and satisfy.

The big chains around here don’t do much for me, but there’s a local guy who runs a one man food truck opration that makes a premium steak burger that you can get like you want and is grilled to your order!!

Cookout has been here in the south for several years.  Their burgers are a lot like what you’d grill up yourself and they have a great variety of toppings and sides as well as a purty good hotdog and some other items along with a fine shake!!

They’re nice and messy! The kind of food that you might wear a little of. If you’re not careful, ya’ might find a little juice runnin’ down your arm!!

They’re also veteran and family friendly and they’re sponsoring some NASCAR events this year!!
