Subdeacon Joe Posted February 8 Posted February 8 This has been stuck in my head for a few days. I figure it's time to share. 7 Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Gee thanks, just got rid of one in my head now this! It is a cute song but I need to listen to something else now to get this out! 1 1 Quote
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I remember that song from back before the beginning of time. I had a frat brother who had one with seats that folded down into a bed. There wasn't a mother anywhere who would let her daughter go out with him. His car had RAMBLER in chrome letters in the grill. He removed some of the letters so it reAd R A M B L E R....his nickname....John Ambler. 2 Quote

And, as Tom Lehrer said, the most sanctimonious song ever written. What's really ironic about that song, written mocking the supposed conformity of the huge housing tracts of Daly City, CA, is that the folk singers like her advocated for a state-imposed, Stalinesque conformity. Another irony is that those housing tracts allowed both lower income workers as well as "disadvantaged minorities" who were banned from living in better areas by racial exclusion laws to enter into the housing market for the first time. Basically, she was mocking exactly what she was advocating for with her political activism. Daly City: Quote
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Oh, Stalinist architecture! https://www.aljazeera.com/gallery/2019/2/25/life-inside-a-kiev-khrushchyovka-soviet-architecture-in-ukraine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brezhnevka#/media/File:Varketili_district_Tbilisi_-_Brezhnevka.jpg For the masses what I couldn’t find was an aerial picture showing miles and miles of similar buildings with only single track roads between. then for the gummint I was reminded of these yesterday because many of the former Soviet capitals have one. One in Moscow is a Radisson. I saw one in Warsaw. 1 Quote

Just like the "Climate Change" activists that want us all in electric cars, but travel around the world in their private jets to tell us about it. 1 Quote

That story has been around since at least the '70s. I had heard it since before I moved to Arizona in '90. Mythbusters tried to duplicate it and could not, even with a ramp. 1 1 1 Quote

However, the beast had an in-line six and pushbutton transmission. It wouldn't get out of its own way on the highway. Had to be absolutely sure there was no oncoming traffic if I wanted to try and pass another vehicle that was going the speed limit! It was handy as I used to haul the AFROTC cadet smallbore rifle team around to intercollegic matches. 2 Quote

watab kid Posted February 11 Posted February 11 now that we reflect i think your right , that was a long time ago , must be how my grandparents felt about the la salle and others of their time , sad how many old american car makers are gone , i recently purchased my first chevrolet , before that i owned olds and mustang , a VW combi van , then jeep then GMC trucks of the SUV type , since ive known her my wife has driven a toyota , then nissan , then jeep cherokee chief [the one i owned] then an audi most recent/current , we dont buy new [all of my new were company cars that they put in my name] except the 67 mustang , i never owned a studebaker , or a nash/rambler , would have loved to get an avante when i was younger or an original AC or a AC cobra but im not the car guy that gets those things , Quote
