I’ve spent most of my life in and out of drag racing!  Lost some friends in accidents in the quest for speed!

It is always a tragedy for those left behind, but it’s a risk that we take for the love of the sport and our insatiable appetite for speed.

It’s most likely that this little girl wanted to do this more than anything else in her world.  I know that I have given up a lot to do it and I don’t regret a single minute or one thin dime that I spent doing it!

The rules for construction and performance levels for these cars are stringent and explicit. Safety is THE number one priority!! The racers I know would do ANYTHING to prevent accidents like this from happening, but it IS racing and racing IS dangerous.  Still more kids are killed or seriously injured in any of half a dozen other youth sports activities.

My prayers for her family. I’ll offer a prayer for all those folks who work at the track and the ones who built the car!  This is the worst thing anyone can imagine.

I'm pretty sure that putting a 7 year old in a dragster that will go 85 mph is a bad idea.

My son and his friends raced motorcycles, atvs, and go-karts at that age! They were all capable of those speeds.

If we’d had Junior Dragster back when he was a kid, I would most certainly have preferred that he race those!!

As I said in my previous post, the construction and safety requirements are the same for the Junior Dragster as they are for the fastest professional classes.  You certainly can’t say that about the other forms mentioned!!

There are different classes. You have to work your way up to the faster speeds and an official (IIRC) has to sign off on your license to move up. While it is subjective, if you're not qualified to move up the official will not sign your card to do so.

Ever watch some of those kids riding motocross?! It's impressive!

Hmmm…my intended post vanished. I guess the System Editor cleared it. I didn’t post it.
And I am not writing it all again.

I will just say that this accident is a shame. Perhaps some good will come of it in regard to safety.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of that little girl.

When she was 12 (minimum age) Petey suggested putting BabyGirl in an enduro kart.  First time in my life I said over my dead body.  Not because she is a girl and not b/c I didn't think her capable.  But that's my only child we're talking about.  She's 12 years old.  And in enduro you lie down between two gas tanks and drive 90 mph for 45 minutes.  Oh HELL no.  Didn't even much like it when HE did it.
