Yul Lose Posted February 6 Posted February 6 This lady passed me at a high rate of speed coming up the hill into the town that I live in. She got to the stop light and instead of stopping before she got to the intersection she stopped right in the middle of the intersection. The cars turning left coming from the east and the cars coming from the north all had to drive around her. When the light turned green she punched it and took off. 2 1 3 Quote

Subdeacon Joe Posted February 6 Posted February 6 (edited) Did she enter the intersection on a "stale yellow?" I've seen it several times, they see a yellow, think they can beat the red, it turns red as they enter, so they stop. First time I saw it, I guess I was 12 or so. In Vista, Hwy.78 where it T'ed into Santa Fe. Lady in her latw 70s or maybe 80s, going north on Santa Fe, light turned red as she entered the intersection, so she stopped. She was leaning foward over the steering wheel and looking almost straight up at the signal. Edited February 6 by Subdeacon Joe Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Ain’t near as bad as yesterday morning on my way to the foot doctor. I stopped for a light, first in line. The cross traffic cleared the intersection and I could see the light change in their direction. Another driver pulled up and stopped on the cross street as my light turned green. Just as I started through the intersection, the idiot on the cross street lunged out in front of me and turned right. He proceeded on at about half the speed of the surrounding traffic. I just managed to slam on the brakes before we collided in the middle of the intersection. People like that are the cause of most inner city accidents. 4 Quote

Alpo Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I was watching this video this morning. Guy got pulled for running the red light. He told the cop that it was yellow when he started under it and it turned red while he was passing. Cop told him that it was red when he started under it. And they went back and forth like that for a while. Maybe that woman had had a similar experience. And it was yellow when she started under and when it turned red she stopped. Because she was ticketed the last time. Interesting video by the way. The driver told the cop that he was carrying, so the cop had him get out of the truck. Then the cop would take the man's gun, "for everyone's safety". The cop did not take the man's gun. The cop's partner took the gun. The man was wearing it IWB on his right side, and the partner drew it from the holster with her left hand. And as soon as the trigger guard was clear she put her finger in the trigger guard. Want to guess what happened next? That's right. Glock go bang. She shot the driver in his leg. They had good video. The first cop's body cam. The woman's body cam. The dash cam on the cop car. And after shooting the man she continued to have her finger in the trigger guard until the first cop told her to put the gun down. It took about 2 weeks but she got fired. 2 Quote

Cypress Sun Posted February 7 Posted February 7 My understanding is that once a driver completely passes over the stop bar (white line on the road indicating where you should stop for the traffic device) with both front and rear tires, whatever color the traffic signal was at the time of the crossing dictates the severity of the infraction, if any infraction. 1 Quote

It frosts me every time i hear about it. Guy complying with the law, letting the cop know he's armed, docile as a sleeping lamb. If he was going to be a danger to the cop he wouldn't have said anything, or denied that he was armed. From my view it's just an ego boosting power play by cop. 3 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I had only one officer ever have me get out of my vehicle after telling him I was armed. He had me step out and put my sidearm on the trunk of the car. He called in my information and found that I was legally carrying. He stopped me because of a taillight and when he got my bonafides confirmed, he let me go. I was two blocks from home!! 3 Quote

Not enough of a fine makes the cops look other places that pay heavy fines....like speeding and doing a right turn on red without coming to a complete stop. I've had at least 3 friends get blasted while stopped at red lights by people texting a driving. All three friends vehicles were totaled by the insurance companies (which didn't pay what it took to replace them) and one friend ended up with serious neck/spine/nerve injuries. The injuries resulted in an lawsuit that the lawyers took 1/2 of the judgement for their fee. The offending, texting drivers? A careless driving ticket with a small fine and a few points on their license unless they took a "defensive driving" course, then it was a reduced fine and no points. 2 1 Quote

Pat Riot Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) I had a cop tell me I blew a red light on my bike. It was yellow. The officer argued with me and I said “We could compare video if you like” and I pointed out my helmet camera. He told me to have a nice day and away I went. Dang! I gotta proofread. Dusty Devil Dale Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) You don't have to be smart to get a driver's license, or to make a vehicle go down the road. Today with all of the cell phones, dash computer screens, widgets added to cars to distract drivers and thoroughly dumbed-down or substance-using population, I've learned to constantly expect the unexpected. Last year a Sheriff's deputy came around a mountain switchback on the wrong side of the center line, and ran me off the road into the brush. She at least stopped and came back. She was looking at her laptop while trying to drive. Earlier this week I had a school bus pass me at high speed (probably 50 mph), right through a signed 25mph school zone, with small kids all over the sidewalks and crosswalks. I called the school district and reported the bus number. You cannot ever let down your guard, these days, AND I wouldnt drive nowadays without a dash cam.
