Arty Redleg Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I prefer to load all my 44 Special/45 Colt cartridges to quasi-Henry Flat ballistics. 200 grain LRNFPs over 28 grains of FFg. Air spaces is filled with 1/8” punched cork wads. As for C&B, I go with Guns of the West nitrated paper cartridges … either 141 grain RB; or 160 grain conicals. I load and shoot 44 Magnum , 44 Special & 44 Russian. If you shoot and load 44 Russian. You can replicate the 44 Henry flat exactly the same as it was originally shot , Just in center fire . Erasmus Posted February 6 Posted February 6 (edited) I'm using 205 RNFPs in .44 mag cases over 2.1 CC of Shooters World Black (APP) since I use a coated bullet and don't want to mess with lube cookies. In my cap and ball guns I load off the gun using a cylinder loading stand and a 20 grain spout (I shoot .36s), of FFFg Goex or Shuetzen, a homemade lube wad, and a round ball. I might pre-charge some .38 special cases with powder the night before if I'm feeling plucky. For smaller monthly shoots I tend to use smokeless in a pair of SAA repros just to keep the posse moving. About 3.5 grains of Red Dot under a 125 coated RNFP in .38 special cases. Edited February 6 by Erasmus 1 Quote
Tom Bullweed Posted February 7 Posted February 7 For .44 C&B, I use speedloaders that I made: 1.75" of 3/8" polytube from Lowes with a 3/8" Dia. x 3/8" long wooden dowel glued in one end. Add 22 grains of any FFFg and push in a .454 round ball that I cast. I shoot early in the posse and load on a cylinder stand at the unload table, two pistolas in about 5-7 minutes.
