This is an ad from Temu. It's been popping up on my phone for the last couple of months, and for the last couple of weeks I've been trying to figure out what it said. Finally today I had had enough, and I took a screenshot and then I cropped it and then I expanded it.

Probably. Think about it: These things are designed in China, then translated from Chinese to English by people who don't speak or read English. I have a number of T-shirts from Temu, and I'm frankly surprised that it doesn't happen more.

On this T-shirt, notice the smaller lettering. One side says "health", but the other side says "fiess". My guess is that it's supposed to say "fitness". (No, that's NOT me).

It's not so much that it says "fear God" that was confusing. I've heard of "God fearing" people all my life.

I've never understood it. Think

Jesus loves me this I know

For the Bible tells me so

Okay. Jesus loves me.

Jesus is God. God the father, god the son, God the holy Ghost. The trinity. All three are God.

So if Jesus loves me, then God loves me, so why would I be afraid of him? Makes no sense.

But my question on this was because of the Old English lettering, and a couple of wrinkles, and the drawstrings hanging down in the way blocking a letter, and the crosses and the letters overlapping - I just wanted to make sure I was reading what it said correctly.

The expression to "Fear" God came from a time when fear meant respect, not impending danger. God Fearing people try follow His commandments and live a morally correct life.

I asked this very question of a professor in college. Religious studies was a significant component of all majors at the school I attended.

At Communion,  when the Chalice is brought out  from the Altar, the Deacon or Priest stops in front of the Holy Doors,  raises it, and says,  "With the fear of God, and with faith love draw near."  Fear of judgment,  faith in mercy,  love of the  Father.

The word used in the Greek is θεοσεβής, theosebeia, "God-respecting."  Also tied up in "God-fearing" are awe, respect, honoring,  and worshiping.
