I've been on active duty orders at Fort Dix, NJ for the past 9 days, where I was the president of a promotion board.  The Army has fielded a new system where the board members can now see every packet electronically instead of flipping through physical paper folders containing an NCOs record.  So it went much, much faster than anticipated.  In any event, I had an entire day of unplanned activity, so I went up to NYC to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  This was my first time, so I thoroughly enjoyed it.  And to top it off, I can now say I've driven a car and parked in Manhattan!

Please note:  In 2010-11 I was mobilized to work at the Pentagon for an entire year.  During that time, I took a bus up to NYC twice.  Once was to see a Yankees game, and the other was to see a Mets game.  During that timeframe, the new World Trade Center had not yet been built.  So having been a product of 9-11, seeing it now brought up a lot of emotions.

I'm feeling very patriotic today.  'Merca.

She's still a beauty.  Is there a Coast Guard cutter still on station next to the statue?  There was one there for a long time after 9/11, and was still there when I used a ferry service from NJ to lower Manhattan back in the early teens of the century.

Glad you made the that trip!  In 2019 I made a wirlwind trip from Texas to the East and visited: Harpers Ferry, West Point Military Academy, Springfield Armory, USS Constituion, Boston, Battleship Cove and then ended with Ellis Island and The Statue Of Liberty.  Chocked full of history and took LOTS of Photos to help remember.  Wish I had taken the behind the scenes construction tour of the rest of Ellis Island.

No, I didn't see any cutters, but the USCG recruiting station is right next to the ferry dock.
