I'm sitting there watching the final episode of NCIS that has Gibbs in it.

They are chasing a murderer and they go to Alaska. Now, normally when they go somewhere - Guantanamo, Afghanistan, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, or even just downtown DC - these aren't filmed there. It's all done in California. But they actually went to Alaska for this show.

At the end of the episode, after they've caught the bad guy, Gibbs and McGee are knee deep in the lake fly fishing. Waiting for the float plane to come pick him up and take him to the airport where they will catch a flight back to Washington.

And Gibbs says he's not going. He's going to stay in Alaska.

And I'm watching this and I'm wondering whether they had to buy non-resident fishing licenses to shoot that scene?

Weird thoughts, right?

Now that you brought it up, I wonder about that myself!

Then my work here is done.

The correct title for this thread should have been "The strange things Alpo thinks of"

And resident or non-resident permits would have been pocket change for an episode that probably cost near $1 million dollars.

I'm sure that the cost of a fishing license would be negligible compared to the cost of making the episode.

And I'm also sure that they didn't have anything on the end of their line. Unlike lure fishing or bait fishing, where is the weight of the hook and the bait that makes the line go out from the reel, fly fishing uses the weight of the line. The actual hook itself weighs practically nothing.

So since they weren't really fishing, but they were still standing out in the water with the fishing poles casting back and forth, I just wondered whether they would be required to have a license.

If they have fishing poles and are casting, they'd need a license in most jurisdictions. JMHO ;)

im pretty sure the "state" would comp the licenses , if needed , because im sure they have a film buracracy like our state has that courts movies and TV shows , im not sure anyone did or could have caught a fish in the grumpy old men movies but filmed here because i ran into all the stars in the hotel when they were going out to film one day , since their intent was not to catch fish but to produce the film im sure they didnt need the creds
