Trailrider #896 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 A Learjet 55, reportedly carrying 2 pilots, 2 doctors a patient and a friend crashed into an intersection near Roosevelt Mall, causing fires! From videos it would appear that the plane came down at a very steep angle before impacting and exploding! All sorts of speculation on Fox News and CNN. The twin jet engines are at the rear of the plane. Plane took off from a nearby airfield, and went off radar about 30 seconds after takeoff. It was apparently on fire as it came down. My take: Either bird strike(s) in one or both engines that caused catastrophic failure, or possibly a turbine blade failing in such a manner that it caused failure of the tail, resulting in the rest of the plane falling out of the sky. God Bless the people on board and anyone hurt or worse on the ground! 2 Quote
Pat Riot Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I just read about this. The news I was reading didn’t mention it was a Lear jet. They just said “small plane”. From the images I saw a Lear jet makes more sense. Truly unfortunate. Quote
Utah Bob #35998 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Just saw a doorbell video. It came straight in like a missile. Looked like it was in full throttle. It was definitel going faster than terminal velocity. I’m thinking there was no engine failure. Full of fuel. One helluva explosion. 1 1 Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I saw the news feed of this right after it happened. That plane came in like a rocket! 1 Quote
