Curious when and where you notice the first sign of spring.

I'm in East Tennessee.

Saw my first yellow jacket of the year.

Daffodils sprouted about a week ago.

Saw a Robin yesterday,  but that's not really too significant here.

The real indicator here is the motorcycle clubs out for group rides.

I watch for the buzzards to return. There are a couple of places where they stay all year. But around here in cold weather,  they migrate south. They return when it starts to warm up.

Peep frogs croaking.

The "changing of the license plates".  The snow birds go home and traffic gets better again.

It'll smell like spring.

Warden Calloway mentioned the peep frogs.

I need to get home to the hill country again so I can hear 'em!

Yeah... the HIGH Monday and Tuesday is supposed to be -0-.

When I see the pink blooms on the flowering crab tree outside my garage door, THEN it's spring. That'll be around the end of April.

Nice tree! While my area can get a snow or freeze into May, the yellow jackets generally do not come out before the risk is low. They know somehow.

Have had weeks of freeze here, with outrageous power bills to match. Seems early according to the calendar, but I trimmed a bush today and set up woodworking outside by the barn. Good news for me is I can run the table saw off of the power out there, saves loading it into the truck and bringing it to the house. Temp was 60 today.

I'm hoping for a long cool spring followed by a short summer. Once I get my woodworking project done, I have an "orchard" to plant. Maybe one tree every couple days for a couple weeks. Six trees. And a bunch of trimming to do.

I consider it a good sign when mega Robins start arriving. However that doesn't always mean things getting green! We've had Memorial days in the upper 90s as well as mid 20s with snow or sleet!

Growing up in the Midwest it was a race between the first Robin and the first tulip bulb to sprout.

Robins are starting to show up here in NC for the Holly Berries. Only a few so far.
Near here they roost in the Oak Trees on one side of the road and feed in the Holly Trees on the other.

Once the big flocks arrive it fells like they will hit your vehicle as they zoom back and forth across the road.

So far in 18 years I’ve not hit one Robin along that stretch of road.

When the notices go in the paper warning  about the Cutting of the Keys and the start of Blasting Operations on the Rideau River.

The river and the canal run through the cente of Ottawa and the operations prevent ice jams and flooding.

I have noticed that when someone brings up Spring too early the weather goes to #%$& not long after that and it stays that way regardless of what the rat in a mink coat says on February second.

Been that way for weeks, I am hopeful. The next week here looks wonderful. Will need a couple rains to get the salt off the road, then I can get my toy out of the garage.

yall are very fortunate where you are , its supposed to be near 50f in these parts tomorrow but its a false spring thing we wont see that till may , if it would come early it would be the first time since 88/89 that we had that , weve often had snow into may and as late as memorial day a couple years in my life here , does not make me happy any more

Cactus Jack spoke of robins showing up to eat the Holly Berries.

When I still worked for the City, springtime meant birds were coming in -- as he mentioned -- to eat berries on the decorative trees, Haw Thorn and others -- lovely bright red berries that hung on through winter.

As the weather moderated, these freeze-damaged berries would naturally ... ferment ...

... and the birds really, really liked 'em!

I laughed quietly but well one spring day, watching birds so absolutely drunk on their feathery backsides that they couldn't even TRY to fly!

We had a cardinal show up yesterday. I don't know if they migrate but don't remember seeing one during the cold weather.

We usually have 2 pair of Cardinals during the summer, then babies! Most winters one pair stays. They hit the bird feeders at dusk. However we haven't seen them in about 2 weeks since it cold below zero cold at night. Hopefully they'll be back. They're such a bright spot against the snow.

Rain ️ today and most of the snow is gone. 40 right now at 6:30 am going to 45

Woke up in the dark this morning.  Electric went off about 4:00am. Mary lit some candles for enough light to get around. We could see flashlight shining under the power line going across our valley.  Then on far hillside. Looks like line must have been broken in worst spot - on steep and rugged hillside where it cuts through the woods. You about have to get on all fours to get up it. I figure the ground got soft and a dead tree fell.

We gussied up some and went out for breakfast.  Mary's got to have her coffee.  Electric back on when we got home.

We are on our way to Erie PA, but in mid-June.
My last Ohio duty was Columbus in the dead middle of a frigid winter.

And no ice scraper in the rental car.
