Now that the snow is melting out, looks like there are a lot of little pocket gophers about.  Soil is sandy and rocky.  I don't think grass will grow well.  There's also a fair bit of sage brush.

Thanks!  I don't mind the gophers, at least until they start eating things my wife plants.  Haven't actually seen one though, they're underground much of the time.

Doubt I'll buy a mower this year.  Will likely hire it out.  Got to spend money on home repairs first.

In re:  pocket gophers, you have to poison them - Gopher Gone.  They almost never offer a target. Have never had a shot at one.  The dogs do dig one up for a snack on occasion - that is another issue - The Pitts!

Hey Doc...

Good to see ya on the Grumpy thread...

Jabez Cowboy

I'm around.  Don't post much though.  We still have a lot to do getting the place ready.  Now that's warming up, going to get the shop in order and finish unpacking.  The reloading presses are still in boxes, all the tools.  Need to get the guns in the safe still.  Yard cleanup.

We moved here when the ground was covered in snow, and bought the place based on what the realtor said and the listing pictures.  There's so much junk turning up with the snow melt. And a few repairs are still needed, including the roof $$$$$

We recently went through this.  Got rid of a LOT of stuff.  Boxes that weren't unpacked from the last move, gone.  So much stuff accumulated.  Take the opportunity to downsize.

I’m wore out and stuff aches that I’d forgotten I had!  I made the trip to Manchester, KY this morning to pick up the stuff I bought by proxy at EOT.  With a stop for gas and another for a breakfast biscuit, it took 3hrs. 54min. to get there.

Between a visit to the pavilion area to see a few friends, a ride up to the range so’s I could shake a few hands and hug a couple of necks, and getting hooked up with Stoney to get my stuff, I only actually spent about an hour and a half!  WAAAAAAY TOO SHORT A TIME!!

Another stop for gas and a beverage and one to grab some sandwiches from a favorite place of ours on the way home, and we’re back home!! Tired, a little down from not getting to stay and shoot, and as I said, a little achy.

Follow up with the surgeon tomorrow afternoon!  At least we won’t have to stop for gas or groceries!

Gonna make Schoolmarm do the driving tomorrow!!  I didn’t do any damage and behaved well, but trying to keep my foot from anything more than just resting on the floorboard was pretty uncomfortable after a while!!

MINOR GRUMP!!!*

*too tired to bother

Just a short trip today!!  First follow up with the surgeon!  It for damned sure ain’t pretty!  Looks like Dr. Frankenstein was practicing his embroidery!!  Some swelling is still evident and there’s some bruising on the instep.

A fresh set of X-rays showed that everything is right where he put it and he seemed even a little more positive in the prognosis.

They removed the bandage and stitches in my knee and cleaned up around the other suture sights.

He wants another visit in two weeks and should be able to remove the rest of the sutures then.  They put some Zeroform gause over the remaining incisions to protect the skin and keep it hydrated. Lots of padding and a hard cast this time.  Kinda like water based fiberglass. Slick and small enough that I can get my britches off and on without cutting ‘em!

Now for the bad/stupid/I’m a dumbass stuff!  My right knee is really pitching a fit!  Been bad for years, but not bad enough to keep me down. With all the pressure of getting up and down piled on my right leg, it’s starting to feel and hurt much worse. The grinding noises are rather disconcerting!  😖

I was getting ready to go this morning and had on my favorite pair of overalls, mostly because they would slip over the old cast.  I go to the bathroom and when I’m done, I feel the fly come off my zipper and there it is, inmy hand!!  Maybe I can salvage some of the cloth for cleaning rags… 😡

Earlier, I was unpacking a new to me 10ga shotshell press that I bought a couple of months ago.  It was at EOT and arrived in my possession yesterday.  I was told that it was a MEC 600 jr and I had ordered a quick change mounting plate for it. The plate will be here Monday, but it turns out that the MEC is a MkV model and the plate I ordered will not fit!  My fault!! Should’ve waited ‘til I had the press in my hands before ordering parts!!

Knee hurt=bad, busted zipper=stupid, and ordering the wrong part prematurely=dumbass!!! 🙄

Otherwise, I’m just GRUMPIN’ ON GENERAL PRINCIPLE!!

Husky has such a small bladder.  He got me up at 4:30 this morning.  The the pupper puked up some sticks he foraged outside.  Other than that, I don't really have anything to grump about.  Looks like another lovely day and have some shopping to do, so will go into town.

Need some .22 ammo.  Steel challenge kicks up in June, as does the local Cowboy match.  Looking forward to getting to those to meet some folks.

You just had to mention snow.

We got about 2 inches of that stuff yesterday, April 18.

I know we need the water but I'll take rain any day.

I much prefer snow.

Were it to rain, in needed amounts of course, from Monday to Thursday, (Monday holidays excluded) I would be less inclined to GRUMP!

That would make it so that weekend motorcycle trips, shootin’ matches, auto racing events, and general excursions could be made “in the dry” and we’d still have the farmers’ crops and produce well watered and available for market!!

CAN I GET AN AMEN!?

Just muddling along here.  I got to spend a little time in the gun/reloading room yesterday.  I got my oldest grandson to run a couple of errands for me. He picked up some hardware so that I could assemble and install a new quick change stand for a couple of my presses and we put padding on the seats of three of my shop stools and put vinyl covers on ‘em!

Two more days until I get this cast off of my foot and get the stitches out. A fresh set of X-rays and another new cast.

The doc plans to change the position of my foot to stretch the Achiles tendon. I’m wondering if that’s going to be painful or just uncomfortable.

HALFWAY THROUGH THE PROJECTED RECOVERY PERIOD TOMORROW!!

Sounds like pretty good news so far Blackwater. Nice you're getting a little bit done in the shop. Bettin' the Achilles thing will be a bit uncomfortable, but can't be worse than what you've already been through. 🤞🙏 Keep up the great work Pard.

Where did you find the covers for the shop stools? I need a couple for work.

Schoolmarm helped me with it! They were from Amazon. 14” round vinyl cover with elastic.

It’s been a couple of months since I ordered ‘em and they don’t have any discernible padding.  I used some instrument case padding to fluff ‘em up. The stuff is fairly stiff and holds shape well.

Ugh.  I have something to gripe about.  Our roof is shot and needs to be replaced.  So long any disposable income for the next year.

Yep I had to get my roof replaced this year with some deck repair included and that put about $16,000 on one of my credit cards. 🙁 So glad my social security money starts before the end of May. Been living off retirement pay for a year waiting on my 70th birthday. So SS will about double what I’ve been getting which will help greatly! 😁

This is just the first of several repairs that need doing.  Total will likely come to $50k.  In the end, it will be worth it.  We like the place, and love the location.

Got out for a spell this morning. Had to go to the pharmacy for refills.  We stopped for lunch at a local restaurant where I got a really nice chef’s salad. Schoolmarm forgot she was driving, (the Buick is really uncomfortable for me to drive with the cast on my foot) and ordered herself a couple glasses of Chardonay, so I inherited the chauffeur duties.

I’m really short on stamina right now from sitting and laying around for so long, (basically two and a half years) but I managed to manipulate myself in and out of the car and the house without calamity.

Youngest grandson has opening night of a new play this weekend and I have never missed a performance!  I’m resting up right now in preparation for a trip to the school and back with a two hour sit in between!!

Foot surgeon tomorrow afternoon for X-rays, removal of the remaining stitches, and another new cast!

The worst part is, I’m going to have to fight the evening rush traffic on the way home!!  Friday evening going home! There ain’t no way home that’s there’s not a malfunction junction somewhere on the route!

I’ll probably be ill as a wet hornet by the time I get home!!!

I reserve my spot in the GRUMP line for tomorrow night!!

It got a bit warm today.  Got to 75 in the house.  Down to 73 now.  At some point I'm going to break down and have to buy something for A/C.  Heat makes me very grumpy.
