Your new girl looks like a sweetheart!

What did you name her?

We decided on Calypso! We’re using Caly for short and that is what we will get her used to answering to.

SHE IS A DARLIN’!!

What shelter did you get her from?

Cheatham County Animal Shelter/Control.

She’s had her shots and she’s spayed. They even had her chipped and we got that registered.

Because they were doing an adoption drive at a nearby shopping mall, they only charged $25.00 for the whole shebang!!

She’s already gotten pretty well acclimated to the house and she’s really great when traveling with us!!

NOW!!  Let’s get to the nut cuttin’!!

I did my weekly foot doctor appointment this morning!!  After a little more than two years, I’m finally getting to start walking full time! as of today!

We will begin modifying my other footwear to accommodate the changes in structure and to compensate for the foot drop that’s a result of nerve damage that causes partial paralysis in the ankle and toes.  That will begin in two weeks, the first time I haven’t had to be back there in a lllllonnnnng time!

THE BAD PART!!  I won’t be able to make The Crap Shoot at Ponderosa Pines next weekend, at least not as a shooter.  The new skin is still just a little too thin and tender to take a chance on that much activity.  Doc would like for me to take it a little slower. Give it another couple of weeks and build up to shooting.

CAN get back into the shop and I can walk that new dog once in a while!  I really wanted to go shoot that match!!  I might still drive up there and send a round or twenty down range!!

ONLY A MINOR GRUMP FOR NOW!!

Shifting foot when I drive a stick or ride the bike!  Had to put the “heel ‘n’ toe” shift pedal on the bike because I can’t raise my toes much on that foot, (partial paralysis from spinal damage) so now I just lift my whole foot and hit the appropriate end of the pedal.

I put running boards on the old gal more’n twenty years ago when I decided that it was better suited for cruising than it was for thrashing. I bought a Buell White Lightning for thrashing at around the same time! 😜

I like the heal/toe shifter and foot boards. Ya don't scuff up the top of expensive boots either!

Language difference I'm thinking.

What is a kettle, that you buy at a tire shop to heat water?? And especially for that price!!

Canadian Tire is a LARGE country wide store that does most types of vehicle repairs and service,  sells everything from tires and tube to oils and greases, all types of tools, food stuff, paint and paining supplies lighting products, clothing, garden supplies, toys, kitchen cooking equipment, utensils, electrical and plumbing supplies, snowblowers, shovels.

Just about everything you can think of, tailored to the area they are serving.

In US American, I think what we call a kettle, you call a teapot.

What we call a teapot is a non electric pot with a lid and spout in which we put tea then pour hot water into, over the tea.

Home from ski trip.  That mountain was a pretty big disappointment.  Will not be going back there.  I like our local hills and will keep my money here in town.

Naw, we have dress codes. We're Canadians after all:

Muk-luks must be worn November 1 to May 1 and snowshoes must be checked at the outside valet stand, next to the dog sled corral. (You are provided with a receipt. No Tipping! Just a Nod and a Good Day EH!?!)

Parkas may be unzipped once inside the store and insulated pants may only be removed if you are wearing long underwear under them. No Exceptions!

Insulated flannel shirts MAY be unbuttoned while in the stores, but only if you are wearing underwear covering the chest.

My daughter got me a heating pot.  It will bring four cups of water to a boil in about 90 seconds.

Great for tea, consomme, instant soups, some instant lunches, etc. I haven't tried it with milk yet (for Ovaltine) but I can heat that on a pan or nuke it.

For coffee I use an electric percolator or Mr. Coffee.

The wind was so strong Saturday Night that my neighbors Horse shelter is now up-side down in my Hay field. When the wind stopped we got 4 inches of very wet Snow....

Now the snow is about gone... Looking like riding weather ...

Mostly a quiet weekend!!  The home health folks came by this afternoon to “check me out” and “discharge” me.

I experimented over the weekend with a pair of boots/shoes that I had used in the past, along with the foot drop brace I got a couple of years ago. NO JOY!!  It didn’t give me the lateral support I need and it was like the shoe on the bad foot was more than an inch higher, but it isn’t.

The most successful combination I’ve found so far isn’t a combination at all. I have a pair of loafers/deck shoes that I can mostly walk around in fairly well. I tried this on a couple of occasions during the last few weeks when the doc said it was okay.  I occasionally stub my toe because of the foot drop, but my balance is the least effected. They’re a real pain to put on and difficult to keep tied tightly.

I have a pair of those SKECHERS slip on shoes that I can get in and out of easily, but the soles are so thick and softly padded that I don’t have much stability and they tend to make me lean back too much.  I’ve worn them two or three times in and out of the house and while driving when I won’t have to walk more than a few steps.

My new moccasins will be ready on Wednesday and they’re supposed to accommodate the new foot brace. They also have thin soles which will help me with stability.  It’ll be interesting to see if this combination is what I need.

I plan to continue to experiment with different combinations, searching especially for something that’s easy to get on and off, and for what will let me knock around with ease and comfort.

In a perfect world, I’d find something that let me walk and maybe even run a little without the aid of a cane or walking stick.

I’m also hoping to be able to get into some corrective physical therapy that I can afford! 🙄

THIS is where I run into the Medicare system and their lack of coverage for this kind of need. 😡 They’re really stingy when it comes to this part of healthcare!!  Of course, if I can’t fully recover, it’s likely I’ll croak sooner and then they don’t have to put out any more money!! 😡

I reckon I’m entitled to GRUMP

a little about that!!

Your Horse shelter blows over onto your neighbors place damaging the fence and landing in his hay field.

How would you handle getting it back onto your place ?

I would think the first order of business would be to pay him a visit for a chat...

What say you all...

First, quickly talk.  I suspect fix the fence would be a priority if there is stock on both places.  Is the shelter sturdy & modular or does it have to be trashed and rebuilt?  Out in the country, usually some neighbor has a big enough machine to move most things and will help.  You would be amazed.

I just think it is rude to start driving trucks on to my place, etc. and dragging it back with-out saying howdy.

I'm  pretty sure he will fix the fence, But.....

I’d expect the neighbor to be contacting me post haste!  We would work something out together if he was amicable.

If not, I would then let him know that he was responsible for the removal of his shed and the repair of all fences.

One thing to consider - though we have local friends, after 18 years, we are still "new people" to some.  We did have one bad neighbor till he passed.  Then the problems were gone and we bought the access we needed from the new owner.  Tricky, sometimes.  Funny thing, the problem guy was still considered "new" after 20 odd years  when we moved in 18 years ago.

There's places where 2nd and 3rd generation are still 'new'

Only been here, 26 years...

Neighbor has been here since Dec. 2024....

I may need to be the one who comes knocking on a door, fence is still not fixed....

In October, we’ll have lived here for 45 years.  There is only one other guy that’s an original owner and his family moved in months later than we did!  We were the first ones to move into this small sixteen house subdivision.

With the exception of the dope dealer a couple of houses down the street, it’s a quiet cul de sac and he knows better than to do business in the neighborhood.  The local law enforcement visits him every week or two and he/they don’t interact with ANYONE here!  The sheriff hauls one or another of them off now and then.

They know it’d be like Clint Eastwood’s Gauntlet if they started anything here. ☠️

I ain’t fond of the idea of ‘em being here, but they ain’t worth going to jail for!
