Blackwater 53393 Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 Not too bad!! I had a decent, relaxing Labor Day holiday weekend. It’s still to hot to do much ANYTHING!! 😡 I drove east yesterday morning to pick up my ‘97 from my buddy Curly Bill Kelly. I’d worn out a couple of pieces internally and he took care of that, fixed the shell follower where it had been sticking which was causing feeding issues, even when I was single loading, and he tuned up the extractor on the right side to help it clear hulls more efficiently. I learned a thing or three! We had lunch and a good time! I can’t say the drive was pleasant! Between the low performance drivers and, literally, two dozen troopers and city cops, it was an annoying circus!! 😖 Today, Schoolmarm and I left mid morning for my audiology appointment. All good and I still have a couple of good years left on my hearing aids. The bad news is that the next set will have to be better and will probably cost more! 🙄🙁 We went from there to a Cajun restaurant that I found on the web the other day. I was NOT disappointed! Real Cajun cuisine, prepared well, and served in very short order! It DID put a serious dent in my billfold, but I have some great leftovers, a very happy spouse, and they made me a batch of Remoulade sauce that rivals anything I ever had in Cajun country! When we got home, I wasn’t there half an hour and the postal delivery lady dropped off my hammerless double that had made the trip west for surgery at the hands of Dr. Johnny Meadows! It’s still hotter than the hinges of Hell! I swear I don’t feel like getting out and doing ANYTHING! 😖😡 I’m GRUMPIN’ ABOUT THE WEATHER!! (ain’t nothin’ else I can do about it!!) 😡 3 1 Quote

DeaconKC Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Howdy folks! Been cookin' here too, tomorrows supposed to be a bit cooler, only in the 80s. Survived a trip to Texas for a game convention. Stayed at the Denton TX Embassy Suites/Convention Center. Ran several games, played some and had a very good trip. Now we're getting ready for a trip to Colorado next week. We'll be gone for almost 2 weeks, and will travel the state from one end to the other. Should be fun. 3 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted September 11 Posted September 11 All that heat is why we moved here. Tomorrow in the 60's, and down to the 50's by Sunday, then it will warm back up to the low/mid 70's. Local put has the BEST Bloody Mary I've ever tried. The barkeep makes an amazing mix. Something to keep in mind if you're in this neck of the free woods. Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted September 11 Author Posted September 11 I guess I will be going to my first band rehearsal in four years tomorrow! Both guitarists, one drummer, and myself will work on half a dozen or so songs for a party and jam session on Saturday! The other drummer and the keyboard/fiddle player will join us at the party which is being hosted by the keyboard player! Fish fry, open bar, all sorts of finger foods and desserts! What’s not to like??? ❤️ 4 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted September 13 Author Posted September 13 We kinda’ got a break today! I think it may have hit 86f a little after lunchtime! We had T-storms in the morning, but it cleared off in the afternoon! Early last week, I received an invitation to a party at my friend and keyboard player’s home! It was to be a musician’s party and jam session! Dan has a huge house beside his own two private lakes and a large outdoor patio with multiple entrances to the house! One provision of the invitation was that the rest of the band would perform a set. Mark, my longtime partner, guitarist, and the other original member of the band, hasn’t performed for four years! He had serious nerve issues with his hands and it required three separate surgeries to try to correct the problem. He hadn’t played much and had become frustrated and disinterested because of his slow recovery. He agreed to try! Dan, our host, has another act that includes one of our drummer/percussionist/vocalist/harmonica player that had been semi retired. Mike, the jack of all trades has been playing with a “big band” band as well! My other guitarist and friend, Tommy, had stopped playing for the most part when Mark had to step back and Eddie, the other drummer, keyboardist, and vocal backup and I have been idle, partly due to health issues. We all decided that it was time to see if there was still anything there, so we got as many of us as could make it together yesterday and put a short set together and rehearsed it. RUSTY doesn’t come CLOSE to describing what we were, but we worked for several hours, and got what we could arranged. Everybody went home and worked on their parts, then woke up this morning and went over ‘em again!! None of us was super confident of how it would turn out, but after an opening act or three, we took the stage! IT ABSOLUTELY ROARED!!! Everyone was stunned! We might have been rusty, but we hit all the notes and the crowd, mostly other musicians, hooted and hollered and applauded like crazy!! As a result, both of the guitar players have been commanded by their wives, to start working on getting their chops back and to get the band back together and back out playing!! A schedule will be made in the next few days and it looks like we’ll be digging out the gear and getting our butts into the practice room sooner than later! We will be looking for a full time bass player and dragging out the lyric sheets and the tableture!! HALLEFREAKIN’LUJA!! 3 1 1 Quote

You’d probably love it if you’re into the Blues and Classic Rock! Aerosmith and Allman Brothers to ZZ Top, Beatles and Stones to Van Morrison, with a little old style Country and a few late ‘50s Oldies thrown in for good measure! We had a gentleman who sat in with us last night that was an absolute anchor and never missed a lick. With our rhythm section and him, we we on time and in the pocket all night! 2 Quote

Eyesa Horg Posted September 14 Posted September 14 (edited) Ellie & I had a great time at the "Great Maine Gunfight". As expected, Tyler & Des did a great job and had a lot of folks help them out with setup. Ellie pulled off a first place in Grande Dame!! I had 3 misses and pulled a couple stupid, but had a great time. The Friday night pot luck was exceptional with some moose roast and venison!! And the every night camp fires. Little bit of rain Sunday, but not bad. Thanks again to Tyler Tornado, Dueling Des and their crew for another great and memorable match. We also enjoyed meeting some more new Pards. Yee Haw and nothing to grump about! Oh forgot to mention... The Saturday night dinner was delicious lobster and steak hot off the grill with potato and salad, bread etc. If you get a chance to go to Maine for a match, you won't regret it! Reminded all of us that we love this stuff and need to get on with it!! TODAY!! I had to get out to the shop to give Hatfield a hand with a project that he’s doing for a friend. He’s updating the brakes on an almost completely original 1965 Chevy C20 pickup. He doesn’t weld, so I extended the new brake actuator rod for the power brake booster from the pedal lever. Man! I am RUSTY at welding, but it turned out great. I also helped make a mounting bracket for the new proportioning valve, something that would let him hide the valve a little and be extra functional. I was able to get three and a half hours in before it got too hot and I got him fixed up right! Had to chug down two Gatorades and a big water, but I never felt overheated and was otherwise fine! IT’S JUST TOO DAMNED HOT!!😡 3 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted September 19 Author Posted September 19 Grandson is back from college for the weekend! We’d wanted for him to get back before the weather changes to get his little truck serviced and get the heater working and he wanted to visit the high school drama club. Hatfield finished the truck while ago. I had ordered a new fan motor for the heater, but we found the old one unplugged and when reconnected, it ran perfectly. It’s still hitting 99 and 100f every day here! Likely to be the middle of next week before we get a break in the heat!! 😡 1 1 Quote

Doc Shapiro Posted September 21 Posted September 21 This evening we went to the pub for dinner. Stopped for gas on the way. Guy in some sort of 4 wheeler Polaris thing pulled in next aisle over. Glock on his hip, bows in the back of the vehicle, daughter with him. It's bow season for elk. At the pub, 2 others seen with guns on their hips, in addition to wife and I. I feel very safe here. 2 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted September 21 Author Posted September 21 DAMMIT!! My big shop fan that hangs from the rafters at the back of my shop just quit!! 😡 It’s supposed to be ONLY 97f today, so there’s other fans I can fire up for a day or two until I can get another motor for the big one! It’s also supposed to start cooling off this evening, so maybe it won’t be too miserable up in the rafters when I get the new motor! 2 Quote

Eyesa Horg Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Geez, what a fricken day! Took Kimber for her walk this morning and discovered a sink hole in the driveway! About 6" on the surface right in the wheel track, had to work on the heating system today, so put a steel target over it! GRUMP Lost 2 thermostats for the heat a month or so ago to lightning that blew the breaker at the road and on the transformer 800' up the driveway. Got the new ones at the tune of $80 each. GRUMP Replaced them and one still didn't work! GRUMP Took it apart and found a tiny 6 pin connector had the pins bent at the factory! GRUMP fixed that and all 4 thermostats are working! YAY Hit the switches on them and zone 2 & 4 didn't turn on the circulator pumps, other 2 came on. One was the new thermostat! Arrgh! 😢 2 relays in the controller proved defective! GRUMP Ordered a new 4 zone control for $190, supposed to be delivered tomorrow, we'll see. Leaving Friday morning for a Josey Wales match and would like the house to be warm for the house/pet sitter so hope it really gets here tomorrow. If not, at least the part of the house she occupies will be warm! With the cold nights it's gotten down to 64 in here! Welp, rewired the control so there's heat in the master bedroom and living room. The office and laundry have no heat now, but that's ok til the new control gets here! I'M GRUMPY SO DON'T USE THE DRIVEWAY ! I'll fix that tomorrow too! Good news though, I sold $800 worth of my stuff this week and the scrapper dude has taken away 3 pickup and 3 20'+trailers full of my steel and other scrap. He's pretty excited about some of it, so it makes me feel a little better about having to get rid of most of my stuff! Hope I live through this moving BS! Sure isn't what we wanted, but oh well! Have a libation on me! 2 Quote

By Tuesday next week, I'm hoping the house will be wrapped with new windows installed, then soffits need to be put in and paint. Might very well come in under budget. 2 Quote
