Doc Shapiro Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Knocked off the giant pile of snow from roof clearing. It was on the shelf that will hold the window A/C unit for my bedroom. That was way too much weight for that shelf. 3 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 WELLLLL! Most of last week’s snow had melted by this morning and today’s 60f temperatures will dispose of the rest by nightfall. It’ll still hit temps below freezing for the next couple of nights, but the daytime weather looks to be pretty nice, if you’re into that kind of weather. Had to get up early this morning to get my laundry done and put away so’s I’d be ready to take Schoolmarm to town for a checkup on her kidney function. Been a little over a year since we nearly lost her and she’s almost back to what passes for normal! 🤪 I’m sitting in the parking lot of the hospital, waiting for her to complete her testing and then we’re going to wander off to get fuel for the car and some for the two of us!! I’m thinking hibachi!! It’s been more than a month since I had me some fried rice and shrimp with a helping of steak or chicken thrown in for good measure!! NO FOOT DOCTOR THIS WEEK!! I get to walk a little and there’ll be less of that damned scooter in my life for at least a few days!! Taking it slowly so’s I can go to Ponderosa Pines in a couple of weeks and maybe shoot a match! 2 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Happy to hear Schoolmarm is back to some semblance of normal. Nice that you're getting to walk a bit as well. Were you finally able to get your special footwear orthotics? Keep up the good work, both of you! 1 Quote
Jabez Cowboy,SASS # 50129 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I took my Shadow out for a Run yesterday and today, sand and gravel and Stupid Drivers, abound... A semi with a 55 foot trailer, pulled out from a side street, Stop Sign, right in front of me blocking the whole road... Paying attention, and good brakes, saved me splatting like a bug... He came across from the right, so I could clearly see he was a Pull-Start Model with a full beard. Jabez Cowboy 1 1 Quote

My moccasins are at the shoe shop for some minor modifications. It needs to be done to make it easier to put it all on. The partial paralysis in that left foot makes it very difficult to get it and the brace into the boot. They’re installing heavy duty zippers. WE’RE GETTIN’ THERE!! 4 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted February 26 Author Posted February 26 The ice sickles have almost all been melted here, except where they are in constant shade! Took Schoolmarm to lunch and dropped off two pairs of glasses to be repaired!! The traffic is ridiculous and ALL the idiots have come out of hibernation! Between them and the pothole patchers, ya’ ‘bout can’t get anywhere safely!! Now I’m sitting in the grocery store parking lot waiting on her to pick up a few things and then I’m heading home and ain’t gonna get back out today!! Lunch was fabulous, but this traffic crap has put my Grump Dog on full bristle and growl!! GRRRRRRUMP!!! The lawn is still saturated!! Get the HELL off’n it!!! 2 Quote
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Still got a lot of snow here, but somehow, we got a wayward Chinook and a lot melted, then the grader BIG street type snowblower and the team of dump trucks arrived and cleared the windrows of ice and snow! The street is now able to allow cars going in opposite directions to pass one another. That was the good news. Bad news: Lost a couple of shingles on the roof and the ridge line cap. This is a two story and at my age I ain't gonna try to fix it myself. Twenty year shingles and 13 years on them. I wonder if the guarantee covers anything? Now I'm off to the Polls to vote in our Provincial Election. 2 1 Quote

DeaconKC Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Weathers been beautiful here the last couple of days, sunny and in the 70s! Been working a bunch extra at the LGS. My red dot came in and was DOA upon arriving. A replacement is on it's way so we will see how it works then. Anyway, skipped coffee today as I have been having heartburn the last couple days, so I'm gonna grump 'bout that! 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Having been mostly home bound for the past couple of years, and there always being someone here at the house, I haven’t locked the safe in my gun room in quite a while! Two or three weeks ago, the whole famdamily went to my mom’s for the day and I locked the safe! It’s a mechanical combination lock and I have the numbers secreted in two remote locations. Day before yesterday, I went to unlock it and the damned thing won’t open! I called the folks I bought it from and they really couldn’t help directly! I contacted the manufacturer and they have replied with instructions to get my issue resolved and are working on the problem. Meanwhile, half my guns and many of my important documents are locked up. I ain’t unarmed by any means and there’s no emergency, but it’s annoying when something reliable decides to become otherwise!! GRUMP! DAMMUT!! I’m expecting a call from technical support in the next little bit… 2 1 Quote

This is a Province* of Ontario election, not National, although the National ruling party is currently embroiled in a leadership race to replace the current fool. We expect a National Election soon after that. The Premier of the Province, a Progressive Conservative, called an early election to obtain a mandate to deal with the USA/Canada tariff situation. * Like one of your States 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Just got the call from the safe manufacturer!! Fifteen seconds later, I’m in the safe!! 🤣 Been so long since I’ve used the combination that I forgot how many turns which way!! 🙄 I knew I had it copied correctly and that I’d feel like a doofus when I got it working!! I WAS RIGHT!! as usual…😡 The laughs are on me for the day!! Getting old is….. just gettin’ old! 😜🤪 1 2 Quote

Gonna take some getting used to, but I think I will like it. Y'all play nice today. 1 Quote

Had a makeup appointment with the foot doctor and then stopped for a nice sit down breakfast with Schoolmarm. Called in and had some prescriptions made ready for me at the pharmacy, and by the time breakfast was finished they called to tell me they were ready. We picked ‘em up and the next stop was the liquor store for Schoolmarm some wine. Next stop was the Post Office! I had to mail a letter, grab some packing tape, seal up a box of stuff for Forty Rod, and another for a new shooter that needed a shotgun shell belt and then get those mailed off too. Then to the bank for some cash to pay for some laser ingraving on my new ‘92 stocks, and then out to the studio to pick them up! Add in a stop for gas and you have eight stops and over a hundred miles. We got home just after noon!! I took a short nap and then put the carbine back together. Now it’s almost time for supper and some of that banana pudding I made earlier this week!! Doc says I SHOULD be walking full time in a couple of weeks. For now, she says to take it slow and easy. I got a lot done! Don’t reckon I can GRUMP too much today! 🙄 That's a nce looking iron. I'll give you a hundred bucks for it. 1 Quote
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Weather prognosticator is giving us another snow warning. Just got the last of the previous (*^*%#$ cleared up. The winds blew the snow off the roof and a helpful neighbour came by to point out I've lost a shingle on the ridgeline of the roof. It's a two story and there's no way I'm going up there to fix it, so the roof guys got a call. In here 13 1/2 yeas and it was a "20 year shingle roof, but I guess there's no way the guarantee will cover wind damage.. GRUMP. Never mind the lawn! Stay off the driveway! Yer packing the snow down and making it harder to shovel! Dang Kids! 2 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 (edited) I ain’t grumpin’ today!! We went to the shelter this morning and we found our next new pup!! She’s about two years old and was not treated well. She’s a bit bashful and hesitant, but she rides well in the car and was very comfortable on the way home. I think she’ll be great here!! Blackwater 53393 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 (edited) Home health lady said I probably don’t need her anymore. We’ll see what the doc says about that on Wednesday. Schoolmarm’s checkup, this morning, was all good! Still needs to get the kidney number down a little, but it’s within tolerable limits. We went from her doctor’s office to the Krystal, (a burger/slider joint for youn’s not from the South) for a big bag of little cheeseburgers and then back home! The dog was a perfect passenger and even snoozed while we waited for Schoolmarm to get done! BUT!! I cracked the shaft on my cane and now I have to glue it back together, (not the first time) and the shoes that I wore are too soft soled and the soles are too thick. If I stand up straight it feels like they’re tipping me over backward and any lateral movement causes me to nearly roll my ankle. So I didn’t have much fun trying to walk around any. I hope the shoe repair shop gets my footwear finished soon!! SIDEWAYS GRUMP!! Looks like the lawn might dry up if it don’t rain tomorrow. SO GET OFF IT!! Edited March 3 by Blackwater 53393 2 1 Quote

Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Got all the way up to zero (Celsius = 32 F) here right now and the salt and calcium is starting to melt the ice and snow on the road and the windrows on the curbs. BUT, the ice is blocking the storm sewer grate and I see the start of a small lake at the end of my driveway, so I'll hobble out with the ice chopper and clear the ice off the grate. 1 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 …and the day was going SO great!! Our new dog is quickly settling in and is superbly manned. She hopped right into the bed last night after Schoolmarm retired and spent the night comfortably! We got out this morning and picked up a couple of things for her and a few groceries to get us to the weekend. I needed a new pair of shoelaces and while I was there, I spotted some “water shoes” that were on sale. I have been thinking about getting something like that to knock around the house in and I grabbed a pair. All good so far! For once, we found everything that we were looking for and even got a good parking spot!! Schoolmarm had decided that she wasn’t going to cook tonight, so she had me stop at Popeye’s for lunch and later. I ordered boneless wings and that’s where the wheels came off!! DAMMIT!! On two previous occasions, I have ordered boneless wings at Popeye’s and on both instances they gave me bone in wings!😡 This time, I specifically asked if the had boneless wings and was told that they did. I ordered two small orders because I wanted two different kinds of sauce and, again, specifically repeated that I wanted BONELESS wings! I even had the guy repeat the order back to me AND the order appeared on the screen as boneless wings!! I got home and opened the boxes and… BONE IN WINGS!😡😡 It’s a sad state of affairs when you can’t get what you asked for, even after being very specific and repeating yourself several times!! One idiot is all it takes to put a damper on a really good day!! GRUMP!! DAMN IT!!! 😡GET IT RIGHT!!!😡 Ah! WELL!! I ain’t gonna let it ruin the rest of my day, even if it DID mess up one of my meals!! But if I ever go back there, when they hand me my order, I’ll sit there and check EVERYTHING thoroughly before I leave the window, AND THEN I’LL TELL THEM WHY!! 3 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted March 4 Posted March 4 That's a big GRUMP for sure. Idiots! I swear they lurk everywhere nowadays. Now I'm grumpy for ya! Glad the new girl is settling in. I keep wanting to call her "Turbo" for some reason. Might be the pictures of your projects!! 2 Quote
