Grumpy Old Man Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I had a train derailment at our 2 day shoot this weekend. 1st rifle round was too long. Lost 10 rounds right there. I have a Dillon 550. I tried a powder check and a seat, crimp die. I switched back to a Lee bullet seater and Lee crimp die. I went thru the rest of my rounds today and found a couple more over length rounds. About 600 rounds today. Big GRUMP on the one stage. 2 1 Quote

Match ammo always gets checked ahead of time for just this reason. Today I picked up holsters for the Hellcats from the PO that were ordered back in April. Now the guns are at the surgeon. Yesterday the rig for the Alaskan came in, so now I have a way to carry it on hikes. Sadly, there's far too much smoke to be outside, so it's just gonna have to sit. GRUMP. 2 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted July 30 Author Posted July 30 I’ve long thought that the “credit rating” system was screwed up! I’ve been systematically paying off my debts for the past several years. This winter and spring, I have closed out a few small accounts by paying extra or even doubling down to eliminate monthly payments. I paid off a second mortgage, a small monthly fee for my hearing aids, (the good ones are expensive and insurance doesn’t cover all of the cost) a little quicky loan we took out to cover an emergency, and last fall I paid off the only car note I’ve had in nearly thirty years! As I’ve gone about eliminating my debts, I’ve watched my “credit score” decline significantly! I haven’t had a late payment in over twenty years! I’ve consistently paid off loans and financed items early. Every credit card company in the country is trying to get me to take their card! The mortgage company has called repeatedly to ask me if I would like to borrow money! AND MY CREDIT SCORES HAVE GONE FROM EXCELLENT TO VERY GOOD AND, JUST TODAY, HAVE BEEN LOWERED TO GOOD!! A TOTAL OF 66 POINTS OFF MY SCORE SINCE CHRISTMAS!! 😡WHAT A DAMNED SCAM!! 😡 1 2 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted August 1 Posted August 1 We had a break from the smoke today so wife and I went out and shot the local steel match this morning. Dragged a friend along and he got to shoot the last stage with my 10/22 and had a blast! He might shoot it next month. It's always good to get out and see friends. Now the smoke is coming back in, and it's hot again. GRUMP I do not do well with these temps. 3 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted August 1 Posted August 1 We've been pretty lucky with the smoke here. But the heat/humidity is rough on me! GRUMPIN WITH YA 1 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 It’s s’posed to rain here again today! We had a thunderboomer yesterday morning and the weather guessers say that we’ve almost caught up on the average rainfall after two years of drought or near drought conditions. But if it ain’t raining, it’s been in the mid to high nineties lately. Hatfield has gone with the younger grandson to help a lady friend move and won’t be back, perhaps until tomorrow. I got a few things accomplished Friday and I have the older grandson and a friend coming over to help move things and clear out some junk in the shop. The remains of several items that have been pirated for parts and some scrap metal too small or to messed up to be useful need to go. I’m glad that we’ll be inside for the most part and today is supposed to be the coolest day for a WHILE! If we can get it all done today, I can haul it all to the scrapper in the morning on Monday and have some extra room in the shop and a few extra coins in my pocket!! OH!! I’M STILL FUMING ABOUT THAT CREDIT BUREAU CRAP!! But in other good news, two weeks further along and the foot is doing great! NOW!! GET OFF THE SOGGY, CRAWDAD INFESTED LAWN!! 🤨 3 1 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Glad to hear that foot continues to get better 🤞. The credit rating thing is shear BS. I like your lawn deterent 🤣 KEEPONAGRUMPIN 2 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 We got it done! It opened up a pretty big area of floor space and got rid of a BUNCH of junk!! Lookin’ out the front door from my easy chair at the rain and then sunshine and then rain again!! Now I’m bored! No racin’ this weekend that I can watch without having to pay, not much on TV worth watching, and I even got the laundry done and a small chore in the kitchen taken care of!! Think I’ll take a NAP and snooze ‘til supper!! 4 Quote

Eyesa Horg Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Got rid of a literal pick-up load of old computers and peripherals yesterday!!! No charge either!!! For the amount you'd think I'd see a space, but you'd be wrong 🤪. 3 Quote
Gracos Kid Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Don't know when I will be able to not be sullen and grumpy......Had to put our almost 12 year old Schnauzer down on Thursday the 30th......He was without a doubt the best dog we've ever had, although we have had some others that were also wonderful...... Big hole in our hearts at the moment..... 4 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Sympathy - had to do the same a couple of months ago. Still miss the boy. We have had multiple dog friends at the same time for years. A puppy added today, back to 3 and great excitement in the pack. Never a replacement for the one who went ahead, a new friend. Big mistake after losing my first was no replacement for many years. I will always come home to dogs. Wishing you the best. 1 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Really sorry for your loss, GK!! Like you, we’ve had and ultimately lost some wonderful dogs! You have our deepest sympathies! Don’t wait too long to find a friend!! 1 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Eyesa & Ellie extend sincere condolences. It's heartbreaking to lose our fur kids. They will be waiting for us at the bridge. 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted August 5 Author Posted August 5 (edited) I got a pickup truck load of junk parts and pull offs from the shop to dispose of today and I hafta go to the pharmacy for my med refills. I’m suffering from the lazies this morning and I’m trying to get motivated to get my butt up and get going! I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!! Got the interior on the Buick detail cleaned yesterday! It’s been three years since I’ve been able to get out and do that sort of thing and it had gotten pretty grungy! I finally just hired it done and in spite of the cost, I’m glad I did! I’m laundering all of the shop towels! There’s two very full loads of them and they have to be washed twice to get ‘em clean enough to be useful and then I have to clean the washer or Schoolmarm’ll assainate me! I’m three quarters of the way through that whole process. It’s turning off hot again here for the next several days, so I’m thinking that I might get what needs doing done early in the mornings and siesta during the heat of the day! It’s one of the few real perks of being retired! Reckon I’ll GRUMP about having to go to the pharmacy and the scrapper’s. Ain’t much else to worry about!! Hatfield says he’s qonna mow today, so GET OFF THE LAWN!! AND STAY OFF!! Edited August 5 by Blackwater 53393 3 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted Wednesday at 06:52 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:52 PM Almost time for the contractor to get started on buttoning up the house! Siding, soffits, windows, doors, paint, and a new kitchen sink. Next year, siding and whatever else needs doing on the outbuilding. Spent a chunk of the morning with him picking out doors, paint, etc. Will be glad to have all of this done. 4 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted Wednesday at 07:06 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 07:06 PM I’m considering doing a shower replacement and a new deck on the front of the house! I just have to convince myself that I want to do a second mortgage again! 🙄 3 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted Wednesday at 07:08 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:08 PM Went up the street to the neighbor's. Shot muzzleloader with 4 other old farts then iced tea and donuts! Picked up the mail and forgot to put the outgoing in the box. Idiot, so walked the 1000 feet back out to the box GRUMP! Then took the dog for a walk and it was way to hot and humid! Now in the recliner cooling off, then maybe I'll drum up the ambition to clean the Hawken, maybe not! The lawn/weeds will still be there tomorrow 😁. 3 Quote

DeaconKC Posted Thursday at 04:40 AM Posted Thursday at 04:40 AM Been too busy round here since Sunday. Wow. GK, so sorry about your buddy. Maybe tomorrow I can take my Missus to lunch and have a bit of time with her. Need to gas the van up anyway and it's about 15 cents a gallon cheaper in Searcy than here. Found out the gunstore I part time at has applied for their Class 3 license, so I will be able to get a suppressor at a discount once they do. We had lunch with our Greatniece Emma yesterday, she just turned 18 and is leaving for college next week. We are more like grandparents to her, so I'm gonna miss her. Gonna grump about these kids growing up too fast. 1 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted Sunday at 01:18 AM Author Posted Sunday at 01:18 AM Spent the day, Thursday, catching up on little chores that have been ignored or put off for too long! Stuff like washing the shop rags and towels. I had collected them all on Sunday when I had the help and did an organize and junk disposal session. It took all day to get them laundered, (I actually put the first load in the washer on Tuesday) and dried and folded. We’ve received a bunch of stuff for the house, the kitchen in particular, and for the shop in the last couple of weeks and the boxes and packing had accumulated to the point where we were being crowded out of the house! Took me a couple of hours to break down and cut down all the cardboard and the grandson got it loaded into the trash receptical. Long story short, I spent the entire day working and fixing and the like! I slept like a rock that night and I was almost entirely worthless on Friday! I managed to do one load of laundry and I didn’t even get that folded or put away! My printer had crapped out a couple of months ago, (I really haven’t needed it) and I had not tried to replace it. I sold a rifle and I needed to ship it, so I contacted the FFL that was handling the transaction on the other end for a copy of his bonafides which he was kind enough to email to me. I thought about just going over to the library and get it copied, but I decided instead to just buy a new printer. The one I wanted wasn’t available locally, (I wanted one that would work with my phone AND my laptop) so I ordered it on Amazon. They said it would be next Tuesday for delivery and I thought that would be okay because it would take that long for the green stamps to arrive from the buyer. It arrived first thing this morning!! I followed the instructions after unpacking it and, aside from loading the ink cartridges and paper, I only had to plug it in and push the power button! The rest of the setup was handled by the app on my phone, which led me through the process with prompts. It worked on the first try and rendered a clean, clear copy! As a reward, I took us, (me ‘n’ Schoolmarm) out to an early dinner with two of our best friends. Will Reilly was the cowboy that got me squared away when I started this game and we’ve traveled, shot, and worked together for more than twenty years! He and his wife are dear to us and we don’t get together often enough! Back at the house, we’ve had the youngest grandson here for the last week! He’s preparing to leave for college and we needed to get his truck registered, licensed, and insured so that he has transportation to and from. We got that done yesterday and all we lack now is some cosmetic issues and a good shakedown! I NEED A ROLLERSKATE UNDER MY BUTT TO KEEP IT FROM DRAGGING!! But my feet are now propped up and I have some racing recorded to watch this evening. It’s been raining again and the fresh cut grass will be knee high in a day or two. There’s snacks at hand. I have a big cup of iced tea, the dog is napping next to me, and I’m gonna enjoy the rest of the evening! The crawdad is guarding the front yard, so, IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE, YOU’D DO WELL TO STAY OFF THE LAWN! 🤨 3 Quote
