My youngest grandson performed his last public appearance in the high school’s drama club production of “Beauty and the Beast”! He graduates from high school in another few weeks and will be off to college in the fall. For the first time, he was the villain, a role that he immersed himself in and made his own! He kicked the dog, kicked the brother-in-law, shoved the heroine around, stabbed the hero with a sword, stole the key to the treasure vault, and was just a complete dirtbag! He also made a great scene of sword play using very real, (albeit very dull) swords! So four years of helping with lines and rehearsals, furnishing transportation, offering and providing moral support, and sometimes even helping with costuming comes to an end! We’re hoping that he’s equally as successful with his new endeavor. He’s received some significant scholarship help and has chosen a school with a modern, expansive, and heavily supported drama and performing arts department that’s receiving healthy input and interest from the Nashville music and entertainment industry. We’re also hoping to see him again, on stage at the university theater a little farther away in the near future! 5 1 Quote

Wife has been expressing interest recently. With the bow came sights, a release mechanism, arrows, and a target/backstop. Tomorrow need to get some ammo for upcoming events, and then we will start diving down that rabbit hole. She's already talking about hunting. Wonder what the future will bring? 3 Quote

I retired to the farm to take over dad's estate and trust, now I've cash rented it out and hired a farm manager. My pacemaker may have to be updated due to my heart only at 35% now, and I resigned from precinct committeeman and all church responsibilities. My wife is being schedued for serious C1-C2 surgery which is pressing on the brain. Northwestern team is handling details so life gets interesting. Prayers appreciated. Grump on. I think my old number was GOFWG 77 They’ve made some great leaps in terms of spinal surgery in the past few years! Hoping for the best for both of ya’s!! I spent almost five hours in the shop yesterday!! I was able to correct a small mistake I’d made in prep for building the new engine for Lockjaw, my little rat rod. It took a week to round up the tools I needed to make the “repair” and I got the job done in about an hour of actual work time! (MAN!! I’M SLOWWWW!!!😡) To make matters worse, I have contracted a damned cold!! It started setting in yesterday morning and the sniffles, sneezing, and coughing is something I haven’t experienced in four or five years!!🙄😖😡 I’m still moving and doing, but I’m miserable and GRUMPY AS A BEAR WITH HIS PAW IN A TRAP!! 3 Quote

Foot doctor called on Wednesday morning, just as I was getting dressed, and rescheduled my appointment for next Monday. No news there. Schoolmarm’s oncology appointment went well, still doing good and no issues. PCP appointment yesterday was fairly uneventful. My usual bloodwork and a general health exam. I’d lost a few pounds!! Results from the bloodwork first of next week. On the way home, we stopped by the power company for a free lunch! They were having a meet and greet and a weenie roast, so we made a lunch out of that! Last night was senior awards night for my soon to graduate grandson. He received a pretty good scholarship and several awards. He’ll graduate Cum Laude with a gpa over 3.5! It’s been a busy week!! AND THIS DAMNED COLD IS STUBBORNLY HANGING ON!! 😡😡😡 2 1 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted May 20 Author Posted May 20 I finally got in to see my foot doctor this morning!! NO JOY!!! I’ve developed a small ulcer on the heel of my troublesome left foot. It’s small and innocuous looking, but it’s right where I put my foot down when I walk, causing pressure which will make it difficult to get healed up! SO I’M BACK ON THE BLASTED KNEE SCOOTER AGAIN!!! No sign of infection and it wasn’t even bleeding, but it would leak a little clear fluid onto my sock or the band aid that we kept applied to it. We’re not sure what caused it. The doctor debrided it and applied some medication and bandaged it. I’ll be seeing the home health nurses for the foreseeable future AGAIN!!😡 So if I seem a little out of sorts and the GRUMP comes out to play… 2 2 Quote

And yes, she did get two College Level Nursing Certificates last week as she has been taking college classes the last two years in addition to her regular school work! He’s already accepted to Middle Tennessee State University. As mentioned earlier, he received a Presidential Scholarship and he has also received several small scholarship awards as well as a substantial yearly grant. Today’s higher education is massively expensive!! Even with all the scholarships and awards, he will still be out A LOT of money when he graduates! Started the day off with a Men's Prayer Breakfast at Church, then headed in to the gun store to work the rest of the day. They had a little Ruger Wrangler come out of a failed pawn and I picked the little beast up. Needs a serious scrubbing and some TLC but they are great little 22s, this one is the Bronze color and has a birdshead grip. Picked up my Missus after work and we went to Arby's then home. Blackwater 53393 Posted May 29 Author Posted May 29 I’ve had a MARVELOUS (sarcasm alert) experience in getting the windshield on my Buick replaced over the last several days. On the way to my doctor’s office two Thursdays ago, a large bird, hawk, owl, or buzzard, hit the windshield and busted it up pretty bad. I had a lot going on at the time and put off getting it replaced for several days. Last Thursday, I contacted my insurance company and they informed me that there was a $500.00 deductible on the replacement, referred me to Safelight, and turned me over to them. I set up an appointment and made arrangements for payment and then I relaxed, thinking the matter was handled. Au Contraire Mon Frère!! I had set aside this past Wednesday for the appointment and cleared space in my shop in case the weather was bad and I kicked back and waited. DIDN’T HAPPEN!! We waited around all day and they never showed! No technician, no phone call, no nothing!! I tried to call the local office! NO ANSWER! I called Safelight corporate and got the automated system which took my information, said it would connect me with a customer service representative, and then HUNG UP!! I called back and after several times being redirected, I finally got to speak to a human being. Wonder of wonders, she actually spoke a form of English that I could recognize and understand! She attempted to call the local shop three or four times and even tried an emergency number that she had on file! NO JOY!! She assured me that she would follow up and call me back in the morning. An hour or so later, I received an email stating that the appointment had been cancelled! No explanation, no contact information, no referral to the responsible party was given! Only statement was that my payment had been refunded! I checked the account where the payment had been drawn from and no sign of any refund! I called the “third party” outfit that made the payment arrangements and after navigating through their automated answering system, I was connected to a customer service representative who sounded like he was trying to talk while holding marbles on his tongue! Long story short, he was absolutely no help at all and was not even able to connect me with anyone who could! He told me that he would pass my information along and someone would contact me shortly. I heard NOTHING from anyone until yesterday morning when I received an email with a number to call and a representative to talk to, which I did immediately. This was another person who spoke in a different accent that was even less intelligible than the previous one. She was less cooperative and could not give me any real further assistance or information and when I asked to speak to someone further up the pecking order, she told me that she was as high level as there was! I asked if she was the CEO or the owner. She just said that there was no one above her in a supervisory position. I explained that the refund had not been received, that I still needed my windshield replaced, that my appointment had been cancelled and that I wanted to transfer my payment to a new work order, to which she replied that that couldn’t be done from her position and that I would have to reapply! I asked for a phone number for the corporate office and she refused to give me that. I then told her that I would contact my attorney and file charges against the company with the proper authorities. The conversation ended there. The company is bases in Australia. It’s a subsidiary of a conglomerate based in San Francisco and Oakland, California. Turns out, it’s a under a corporate umbrella owned by BLOCK which was formerly SQUARE, the credit card processor. I must have struck a nerve somewhere! This morning, I received an email stating that they had refunded my payment and that it could take up to ten days for it to show up in my account. I checked the account and the money was already credited back. They still had all of my information and when I restarted the process, they instantly processed my request without any hassle, even lowering my cost a couple of bucks! My new appointment is set for Monday afternoon and it’s with a different shop. We’ll see how this plays out! On a lighter note, it’s Schoolmarm’s birthday, today, and we’re going out for some hibachi for lunch! I reckon that this is ENOUGH GRUMPIN’ TO KEEP MY CURMUDGEON CRED UP THERE FOR THE WEEKEND!! Blackwater 53393 Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 I took the entire day off, yesterday, and did nothing but watch auto racing and baseball, with the exception of an hour and a half for a movie that we rented to fill in one gap in the programming! Stock cars, sports cars, Indycar, and drag racing and then straight into a couple of ballgames!! I was mostly relaxed and had little to complain about, with the exception of the recliner that we bought to replace the one that finally disintegrated from age and extended use! This one was a cheapo that was ordered on the web and has been a constant source of annoyance and aggravation since the day I first sat in it! It looks great, but it causes the occupant to slide down and forward, it’s damned near impossible to get the footrest to completely retract, and it’s difficult to come to a standing position from it without a lot of effort. The lesson here is, don’t EVER buy a piece of furniture that you can’t take a serious “test drive” in before purchasing!! I will very shortly be making the rounds to find a recliner that suits me!! The IndyCar race starts in an hour! Then there’s some drag racing! I’m planning on cooking up some homemade spaghetti sauce and then the NASCAR race for the evening finale!! Blackwater 53393 Posted June 3 Author Posted June 3 Not the worst day I’ve had lately, but still a lot left to be desired!! The Safelite people didn’t show up again yesterday! Can’t say I’m a bit surprised. I tried this morning to reach ANYONE in their system to help, but just got the “AI runaround” all morning. Foot doc appointment this morning produced a good result. The place on my heel is improved from the last visit. New ointment prescription that wasn’t ready at the pharmacy today. Prescription for my antibiotic had another refill on it, but the time had expired. Took me several tries to reach a live person to get that issue resolved and that prescription was not ready today either, so at least I have more than one reason to go back tomorrow. We had a fabulous lunch today at our favorite Italian restaurant and we celebrated Schoolmarm’s birthday a few days late. Made the pharmacy stop and got the scripts that were ready, stopped and got her some lottery tickets and got home without further incident. When I got home, I took a break and collected myself. I decided to try one more time to get through the AI jabberwoky with Safelite and after twenty minutes or so on hold, with multiple unproductive side trips, I finally got a human!! This time, it was a nice lady who spoke an American dialect!! She took some initiative and after another fifteen minutes and repeatedly being placed on hold, she came on and informed me that they had received a damaged windshield yesterday and that they now had a new one. She set up another appointment for tomorrow afternoon and said that they would throw in new wipers and a rainX treatment to make up for my inconvenience. (I AIN’T GONNA HOLD MY BREATH) I hope y’all had a better day!! SLIGHTLY REDUCED GRUMPAGE TODAY!! We’ll see what tomorrow brings! 3 1 Quote
