Blackwater 53393 Posted April 20 Author Posted April 20 We’re pulling for ya’, Jack!! No real bad stuff for me the last couple of days, but it’s been aggravating! I ordered some moccasin slippers for knocking around the house. They fit okay, but they’re padded really thick and it makes it hard to walk in them! Fortunately, they were inexpensive.🙄 I went into the gun room this morning, early. I sat down to do a little research and I found a bunch of tiny little ants crawling around on the loading table! I don’t know why they’re there because I don’t eat in there and there hasn’t been any food in there in months. I sprayed the table and around the room at the baseboards with ant and roach spray. I had go elsewhere to get my research done!😖 I did a load of laundry and had a breakfast snack and started in on my search for information. I wasn’t even doing anything strenuous, but all of a sudden, that nerve in my lower back decided to go nuclear on me! I went and laid down to stretch and it let up a little, but only for a few minutes. I got on the stationary bike and rode for twenty minutes or so and it let up some again, but it’s insisting on bothering me. I have meds that I could take, but I don’t like ‘em. I reckon I can GRUMP a little. I HATE WHEN IT HURTS!! GRUMBLEGROWLSNARLDAMMIT!! 3 2 Quote

Doc Shapiro Posted April 21 Posted April 21 I'm just tired. Will be until winter comes back. I just don't sleep well when it's warm. My body does not like it. Ah well. 2 Quote
DeaconKC Posted April 21 Posted April 21 Howdy all, had a bout with a mild case of food poisoning over the weekend, but that seems to have passed...sorry, couldn't resist the bad pun. BW, sometimes we just don't know what will set off the back, hang in there. I'm like you, hate the strong meds I have if needed, because I feel even dopier than usual. Jabez, are you gonna start wearing all white when riding like that annoying little twerp on those Progressive commercials? [Deacon ducks and runs...] 2 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted April 22 Author Posted April 22 Thanks!! I’m much better today! Took a couple of Bayer Back and Body aspirin last night and a rarely used gabapentin. Slept fairly well and woke up with just a hint of the pain from last night. I had a lunch planned with some of my cowboy buds and laundry to fold this morning. I got through all of that and I’m feeling even better now. Jabez! Hope you’re on the way to recovery and total remission!! Doc!! You and the missus need to slip off on a weekend spree somewhere with good A/C!! And Deacon!! Lay off the gas station sushi!! GRUMP ON!! GET OFF THE NEW MOWED LAWN!! 2 1 Quote

Doc Shapiro Posted April 24 Posted April 24 My wife shredded some yukon gold's for dinner tonight, rinsed them, and left them in the colander in the sink. When I went to make dinner, I found that one of the dogs had eaten them. GRUMP. We ended up going to the pub for dinner. Then I came home to this view. Can't grump about that. 4 Quote

We had a Dalmatian that would eat potatoes ANY way he could get ‘em!! He once caught the pantry door open and ate half a bag of raw unpeeled spids! French fries, hash browns, home fries, mashed potatoes, baked potato, and potato chips and pancakes! The potato chips were the funniest part. He’d catch ‘em in mid air as fast as you could toss ‘em! I bought apple chips for myself because they are really good and they look just like ‘tater chips. I would toss them to him and he’d catch ‘em just like the others, but then he’d spit ‘em halfway across the room! I never knew that a dog could spit like that and I’d sit there and laugh ‘til I couldn’t breate! 🤣 2 1 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted April 24 Posted April 24 We had a Rottie that was begging for some of my shrimp cocktail. I finally gave him one without sauce which he immediately ejected across the room!!!! I don't think he expected that texture and temperature 🤠. He sure gave me the "what the hell" look! It's impressive how far they can spit! 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted April 24 Author Posted April 24 That Dalmatian’s name was Traveller, named after Robert E. Lee’s horse. He had several nicknames including BUTTHEAD, but the one he earned for his eating habits was “‘Tater Gator”! 1 1 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Ah well. Dinner tonight will be a ham/egg/cheese sandwich as I have all the stuff for that since the dog ate the taters. 3 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted April 25 Author Posted April 25 On Thursday, I was able to spend several hours in my shop doing productive work on one of my engine projects. Hatfield was there to help. (He was probably there to make sure that I didn’t get into trouble!) I also got in twenty minutes on the stationary bike before going out there! Yesterday was grocery store day and time for chasing down a couple of items needed to complete the project. I also got time in on the bike! I’m waiting for everyone to get up and going this morning so I can do my time on the bike again and we had planned to work ln my grandson’s pickup while he is here for the weekend! No major problems to report or any real gripes as of this moment. That feels really weird!! Guess I’ll GRUMP about feeling weird! 3 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted April 26 Author Posted April 26 I did thirty minutes on the bike this morning! Best I’ve done since I got back on it! After a short breather, I went to the kitchen and made breakfast and sat down and ate it. While I was eating, I checked on availability of a couple of tools that I will need shortly to finish the modification I’m doing on my new rat rod engine. We went to the shop about noon. I spent about two hours completing the first stage of preparation for the new valve train. Hatfield was working on a pickup with HVAC problems and I did some advising on that. I must have done SOMETHING because I was covered in cast iron powder when I got back to the house, so into the shower I went. After a little rest and catching up on the day’s auto racing activities, I broiled up some brats and fixed everyone some supper. Been a pretty busy day, so I took a couple aspirin. I’m a little achy and I think I’m done for the evening!! 4 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted April 26 Author Posted April 26 Thanks, Brother!! I’ve had a lot of prayers and mucho support through this ordeal. Between that, great doctors, and a lot of stubborn bullheaded refusal to give up, I finally am really feeling like I can get most of the way back to where I used to be! I still have a long way to go! You guys are the reason I am still here!! 3 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 (edited) So I visited my infections doctor yesterday. I was hoping to get off of the antibiotic that I have been taking for over two years. That’s not what he recommended. The repeated MRSA infections that I’ve suffered indicate that it’s likely a chronic situation where the staph bacteria are still present somewhere in my system in some minuscule amount and that it’s likely that if I stop taking the antibiotic it could flare up again. The only scenario where I would or should discontinue taking it is if my kidney function is affected. Upon my return home, (I made a couple of other stops for some tools and supplies) I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could negotiate the stairs into the house much better than I have been able to lately! The time on the stationary bike is paying off! I made a point of taking another ride after I had my lunch. I’d not ridden yet because of my early morning appointment. So now I’m waiting on parts for the project in the shop. The weather is pretty nasty with storms in the forecast and it rained most of the night. The fridge needs my attention again, (it’s been building up frozen condensation because of a bad design and I have to defrost the section behind the slide out drink drawer) and I just am not motivated to do much of anything at the moment. Think I’ll make me some breakfast and then ride the bike for a while! At least I can listen to some great music on my headphones while I’m riding! GRUMP!! As is expected from people such as myself! Blackwater 53393 Posted April 29 Author Posted April 29 My old bike is noisy! It’s an old Schwinn AirDyne from the late ‘70s, the one that Paul Harvey used to promote! It’s in the bedroom where we sleep and Schoolmarm fusses and Caly barks if I try to ride it while they’re in the room. The racket doesn’t bother me because I wear my Bluetooth headphones and play music from my iPhone library! I’ve just recently been able to get back on it and it’s already working for me! I’ve gained the strength to do those stairs better and I’ve lost six or seven pounds in the last two weeks! 4 Quote
