Blackwater 53393 Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 Crazy weather here the last couple of days! Friday was clear and bright in the morning and cold! A few hours later, it’s raining and mid 40s. Stayed above freezing last night and it’s pretty but windy and just around 40 again! S’posed to snap off cold again tonight, somewhere around 19f. Got my grandson for the weekend and he’ll get to stay over ‘til Monday for the federal holiday, so we get to celebrate his 18th birthday! He brought a souvenir T-shirt from their “Christmas Carol” play for me, a present for my recent birthday! We spent a good portion of the day in the gun room, he and I, labeling ammunition that I have assembled and stocked up on! My penmanship SUCKS, so I bought a neat little thermal label maker/printer and I have been labeling over all of my scroungy hand written box marking. With his help, we finished all of the pistol and rifle labels today. He also got several of my recent plaques from various matches hung, (they take up less space hanging on the wall than they do stacked up on the shelves) and he noticed how many that recognized Schoolmarm for her exploits in CAS. He was stunned!!! He hadn’t realized that she was a multi-time state champion in Black Powder competition, both in category and overall! Ain’t got a lot to GRUMP about today, ‘ceptin fer we don’t get to have the boys over often enough!! GRUMP ON,PARDS!! 6 Quote
DeaconKC Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Good evening gents, 28 here, clear and supposed to get into the teens here. Worked today, we were pretty busy, which is good as business has been slow since Christmas. Ruger has discontinued their delightful little SR22 pistol, I bought LadyC one in purple some years ago and she loves it, shoots it like poison. Well we got one of the last ones in, and it was in Leopard Print [which she loves] so I sent her a picture of it and told her I would buy it for her. She texts me back and says she wants to buy it herself! So she comes by and does just that. She is gonna let me pay for half of it. One of out G'nieces came by a little bit ago with her new beau, he's a great guy, so I hope things work out. Anyway got Church tomorrow with a fellowship dinner between services, so it will be a full day there. I need to find somethin' to grump about, but it will just have to be on general principle! 5 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted January 18 Posted January 18 It's currently about 12 degrees. Got warm here today, I overdressed for skiing. Wife is going to church tomorrow, I'm not much for that. Will get brunch at some point in the morning, mostly tomorrow is a lazy day. We're going skiing again on Monday. Weather has been really warm and dry during the day here, with big inversions. Likely temp at the ski hill is upper 40's. Hopefully the pattern will start to shift by Friday, but it's hard to say this far out. Weather forecasting is really interesting, and involves a lot of guesswork based on experience as the models are all over the place. There just isn't enough data. Next gun on tap for April is a Ruger Alaskan in 454. Wife wants a gun for hiking in bear country. Will get bear spray too. I might need some safer hobbies.... 2 2 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 I reckon I will see whether all my diligence in the matter of Blackwater vs Georgia Drivers’ Services has paid off in the morning! I’m going back to the DMV to see if I can get my license renewed and get the “Real ID”! I’ve collected all of the documents and paid my “fine”, so I should be good to go!! The grandson went back to his mom’s yesterday evening and it’s more quiet around here!! He took my T-shirt with him to get all the cast and crew to sign it! While composing this post, I got word from Cat A Tonic about the goings on at Ponderosa Pines for the spring and summer!! Y’all watch the Wahr in the next couple of days!! The lead’s about ta’ fly and the lemonade is gonna’ flow!! In the meantime, we’re s’posed to get a doozy of a winter weather event this weekend!! Lots of precipitation and single digit temperatures! There’s a possibility of a foot or more of snow if it hits just right! It won’t make me mad!!! I’ve got a Cowboy Lunch planned for tomorrow with a bunch from the Wartrace Regulators Club! It’s going to be a LOOOONG Day! JUST THE ORDINARY GRUMP ON GENERAL PRINCIPLE, I GUESS!! 2 1 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted January 21 Posted January 21 For all those in the path of the ice storm coming this weekend, stay safe. Make sure you have fuel for the generator and enough supplies that you don't need to go out for a few days. Here, still stuck under a bloody awful high pressure dome, no snow for at least another 2 weeks. This has been a remarkably low snow year. I am VERY GRUMPY about it. 2 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Spent an hour this morning at the DMV, waiting for the system to come online. I thought I was going to have to fight with the state of Tennessee!! Schoolmarm had time to go shopping at the grocery and still be back to pick me up in plenty of time! Anyhow, I’m now officially licensed to drive and registered with Homeland Security! Finally glad to get that out of the way. Gonna go get me some lunch with a bunch of my Cowboy friends here in just a few minutes! 😎🤣 4 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted January 21 Posted January 21 👍👍 BW! I had a successful fight with the old propane company too yesterday. They had reimbursed me for 25 gallons and I was pretty certain that there was at least 100-125 left! Ashley was great to work with and turned back to the service dept. He called and tried to bullshit me and I stood by my arguments of the gauge being off and the ice line etc. He finally conceded to give another 50 gal credit. I figured it was at least a reasonable concession. Well yesterday Ashley calls to apologize for the time delay and aggravation. Then she tells me her manager had agreed to pay me for another 100 gallons!!! So all and all got reimbursed for 125 gallons. Sometimes it pays to bitch!🤠. Not grumpin on this one! And the new company gave us a 100 gallons for being new and no installation charge for a 3 year lock in 70 cents a gal less than the old company! Unusual to win a battle with gas companies. 3 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 Saturday morning and we’re sitting around waiting on this “massive winter storm” to arrive! The pantry is stocked, the vehicles are gassed up and winterized, new batteries in all the flashlights, emergency heat is staged, and the cell phones are charged! We filled up the Buick while we were out getting Schoolmarm’s meds and that last batch of supplies. Yesterday afternoon, I took Ol’ Green out and filled the tank and I picked up ten gallons of diesel for the jet heater. My weenie ass had all it could do to pick those five gallon fuel jugs up and put ‘em back in the bed of the truck!! All that time laid up has turned me into a wimpy weener!! Nothing happening yet and I’m hungry!! ‘Spec I’ll go to the kitchen and whip up some eggs and warm up the leftover fajita I bought home from the Cowboy Lunch!! The storm is about twenty miles west of here right now. All y’all stay warm safe and dry!! 4 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted January 24 Posted January 24 If you want to follow the storm, check out this website: https://www.ventusky.com/#p=38.6;-89.9;4 It's cold this morning. -12 F. One more cup of coffee and we're fixing to brave the cold and go skiing. Stay safe! 2 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Battin down the hatches Pards. Especially you folks in the south. We were minus 14 this morning and now up to a balmy minus 6. 12" of snow coming in tomorrow thru Monday. At least for us this going to be a light fluffy storm and we're pretty used to this sort of weather. 🙏 Up for everyone! 2 Quote
DeaconKC Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Good evening folks. Well we are up to about 6-8" of snow and the temps are down to 11F right now. Nephew bought a 4 wheeler two days ago, so he and the kids were out on it today and were over for dinner. One of my G'nieces is staying with us as her apartment would be impossible to get in or out of with the snow. Anyway the kids were out making snow angels and freezing themselves into kid-sickles while Yours Truly cheered them on from inside the house, where it is nice and warm. Anyway, we are supposed to get anther 2" before Midnight, with more to come after that. Anyway, we are still here, Grump on my friends. 4 Quote

Hit the ski slopes this morning with my wife. The new skis I bought are flat out amazing! Wife made a breakthrough of sorts today, hopefully it'll stick. Will do it again tomorrow. Also, I realized I've bought 5 guns this past year, all for CC, and got my CC permit for reciprocity purposes. 3 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 (edited) We’ve had the snow and it probably got up around five or six inches before it began to sleet and overnight it has turned to freezing rain. Not too bad here, so far, but just a couple miles south and east of here there a large power outages and trees and power lines down everywhere! The temperatures have just started dropping again and by tomorrow morning we expect single digits and some minus temps. It’s now turning back to snow here and the sub freezing weather is supposed to be here for the rest of the week. Edited January 25 by Blackwater 53393 3 1 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Hang in there BW. Be careful when cleaning it up. Above all, take care with your foot. It will be here in a few hours, oh joy! The Ford and it's 8 5' plow are awaiting in the garage! Supposed to be light and fluffy due to the fridge temps though. It should plow pretty easy. No power outages expected. 2 Quote

DeaconKC Posted January 25 Posted January 25 BW great news that you still have power. Snow seems to have stopped here but still cold. Family seems to have decided our house is the refuge. Uncle Kevin has gotten a lot of playtime with G'niece Molly, who is 5 years old, and she has given me a dinosaur so we can play together. My G'nephew observed "Uncle Kevin's already a dinosaur." The boy may not live to see his 14th birthday.... 1 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 One big tree branch is down in the driveway. Otherwise, there won’t be anything to clear away. I will get out sometime tomorrow afternoon and start the Buick and Ol’ Green and let them defrost on their own. Schoolmarm got Caly out a little while ago and got her emptied out, so she’s all settled in now. I have my quarterly checkup on Tuesday, but they had much more ice down there, so that may be canceled. If not, it’s all major highways except for two blocks and then there’s the question of whether or not they will have power. In the meantime, we’ll stay out of the mess and remain on minimum function ‘til it’s necessary to do otherwise! I have many thousands of miles of traveling in this kind of weather, so if I have to, I can manage. The only real issue is dealing with drivers who should not be out in it!! I used to have a lot of fun in this kind of weather, but the years have made it a lot less enjoyable. Might still be fun if the grandsons were here!! 3 1 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 We managed to remain warm and dry with no loss of power here. One big tree branch down in the driveway, but it’s not a problem. Even in my wimpy condition, I can dispose of it without any difficulty. We’ll stay in and out of the way for the day today and if I don’t hear differently from my doctor, I’ll make the trip over to the other side of the county for my quarterly checkup tomorrow. I doubt that it’ll return to normal around here for at least the rest of this week and the cleanup will take longer than that! 3 Quote
DeaconKC Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Good morning folks, 12F here and sunny. Supposed to hit 26 today, so no thawing in sight yet. With a 50 yard long driveway I'm probably not even gonna make a mailbox run. My goal today is to drink coffee and avoid the news about stupid people doing stupid stuff. Will probably have family in again today, our house has always been the "refuge" for our crew and now that they bought the 4 wheeler, they make shuttle runs over to our place! 3 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Sick as a dog, I just finished the first round of plowing! About 11 inches so far and still snowing. No power outages though. A friends son in Nashville says he's been without power at his apartment since yesterday. No heat or water. Hope it at least warms up for you folks down there. Frozen pipes can get ugly. 1 Quote
Grumpy Old Man Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Got most of the snow moved today. 2 trips put with snowblower and 1 with Mule w/plow. Grandkids school was canceled today and tomorrow so far. Didn't have grands today as parents were off work also. Will have them tomorrow. 2 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 Ain’t likely to have school out here in the rural area of Middle Tennessee for the rest of the week. Kinda’ wish the grandsons could get over here some while the younger one is out of school! 3 Quote
Jabez Cowboy,SASS # 50129 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 It is 63F. outside right now, should reach 68F tomorrow, seems like good Motorcycling weather come daylight... Seems like some of you all southern boys best come on up here ta warm up... Jabez Cowboy 1 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted February 5 Posted February 5 It's been so warm here. Winter needs to sober up. With our snowpack so light, it's going to be bad for ag, and fire season is going to suck. 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 School’s still out here! We’ve been getting out the last few days and the side roads and some secondary highways still have snow pack or icy spots and whole sections are still slick and frozen. With the temps not getting out of the low thirties for highs, it may be next week before they go back! In the meantime, we got out just in time to get all of our meds caught up and we had a great lunch on Monday at our favorite Italian restaurant. Sure was good to knock around a bit and see some of the mess this storm made! Today, the excursion included a run to my favorite doughnut shop! They do an apple fritter that’s a nice breakfast all by itself! Then we went to the grocery store and bought the place out!! Not really, but we DID get the pantry and fridge restocked! I got all the ingredients to make my winter special vegetable beef soup, (this means I’ll be cooking for most of the day tomorrow and then freezing some of the soup for later. We still haven’t had a day where the temperature didn’t drop below freezing since Thursday two weeks ago and it’s going to be in the low twenties tonight! Mid sixties by the middle of next week if the weather guessers are right! 3 Quote
watab kid Posted February 5 Posted February 5 i awoke this morning to my wifes order to move snow - it was in the teens above , very light dusting of snow , that was refreshing , i used the leaf blower to move the snow [and some dirt] im not complaining at this point , the last two weeks have been below zero here , tomorrow im going to work at the range as its going to be above freezing for the first time in a bit , we only op[en when weather permits till mid march when high school trap starts back up , im looking forward to it - get out of the house , away from the holidays [which i hate] and back to some normal communication/interaction with people i dont know as well as those i do , 3 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Got up into the 20s here yesterday, supposed to be the same today. Minus 8 an hour ago. Then bam back to sub zero for the weekend! Maybe up to around 30 next week! 2 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 It momentarily madd it to 33f today! Back to the low teens tonight? I spent the morning getting my laptop prepared for Schoolmarm to do our taxes and just as I finished, she announced that she had filed with her cell phone. 🤨 I called an old supplier to get a new bulb for one of my “tactical” flashlights and was told that the company no longer supports the model I have and they don’t have that bulb anymore! I found the same model on evilbay, new in the box, for way less than half of what I paid for the one I have! I ordered two! I have to get up and go to the kitchen now. It’s time to stir the soup I spent all afternoon preparing!! GRUMP YUM GRUMP YUM GROAN DROOL GRUMP! 4 Quote
DeaconKC Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Hey guys, well it hit 70F here today with tons of sunshine. Wish I had felt like enjoying it but did something to my back Monday and have been out all week with it. Finally some relief today. So just been watching old Westerns. Glad to see it's finally thawing out. 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted February 7 Author Posted February 7 My quarterly doctor appointment was postponed, two weeks, until 2/16 and I really need to get in! My back and leg are bothering me, at times very painfully. I get a cortisone injection every couple of years when this nerve gets to acting up. I received the new ergonomic roller handle/lever for my ancient Deitemeyer press today! Dan at Inline Fabrication did a fabulous job making it! So much better than the old “bicycle grip on a rod” lever that it came with! They do “one off” pieces at really good prices! We had to go get Schoolmarm a new cell phone today. The crappy old thing she had finally wouldn’t even take a charge! She bought lunch at Twin Peaks when we finished with the phone place. The waitresses are wearing scanty lingerie for February in honor of Valentine’s Day, (a few of them shouldn’t) and the place was packed with guys who were really spending their money and getting both eyes full! 🤪 It’s STILL gonna drop below freezing again tonight and maybe get to mid thirties tomorrow after nearly hitting 60f today! We aren’t supposed to get a whole 24 hrs above freezing until the middle of next week!! The postponement of my doctor visit is making me very GROUCHYASSEDGRUMBLINGGRUMPY!! GET OFF THE SOGGY BROWN LAWN!!! 4 Quote
