BIL and SIL came for supper and just left. Great time!

We had Christmas dinner and celebrated my 82 birthday with a Red Velvet cake Big Red had hidden somewhere while he was at work yesterday.

Roxanne and Pierre are on their way back to Val des Mont and it's currently -15 here and supposed to drop to -20 overnight. At the current temperature, I think that may be a conservative number.

Calls started coming in early this morning wishing me a Happy Birthday,

The Good with the Bad.

Ian and I had a nice Christmas dinner and visit with Roxanne and Pierre and we celebrated my 82nd year.

I went to bed content.

This morning I received a call that a very close friend, co-worker at the City, hunting and fishing partner, died yesterday. 60+ years we have been close friends; attended each others weddings; socialized, our wives were close friends. Now this.

His wife didn't want to disturb anyone Christmas Day so was basically on her own.

God Speed Larry. I'll miss you.

Woke up tired.  Went skiing.  Much fun!  Came home and took a nap.  Naps are glorious.  And it's now snowing, hard.  Over 3 inches in the last hour.  Going out again tomorrow!

I'm plumb tuckered.  8 in of snow to clear on the drive.  Took wife and I about an hour.  Can't run the blower until there's a base layer of snow over the gravel.  Couple of hours of skiing until it got too crowded.  Couple of errands, and a lovely nap.

I get to be the absolute GRUMP  tonight!

 

Wasn’t much going on today. The grandson went to a friend’s house to hang out and watch movies. I set about trying out my new label printer and it turned into a fiasco! Downloaded the app three times before I could get it to work and then had to fiddle with my phone to get the Bluetooth connection working.

 

While that’s going on I get a message that my debit card may have been hacked. We found three bogus charges and had to shut down the card. Now I’m having to wait until Monday to get a new one assigned and then I’ll have to go through the process of getting some of my accounts updated to reflect the change, (I have several vendors who automatically charge my card/account when I place an order) so that I can place my orders remotely.

 

That all complicates my Monday because I have to take Schoolmarm for an appointment with her kidney doctor and that’s in the absolute opposite direction from my bank!😡

 

I finally got the printer to work! I set up to print the first batch of labels and I screw up my proofreading! That prints a dozen labels with the wrong information on ‘em! The stupid part is, I don’t notice it until I’ve put half of the labels on boxes!

 

I corrected the label template and printed that batch again and then shut it down before I fouled up something else!!

 

Nobody got hurt, so I’m just gonna GET MY GRUMPIN’ DONE TONIGHT  and go for a better day tomorrow!

Better day today, but it sure took some doing to make it happen!

 

Got up early this morning to go and get my debit card replaced. Got to the bank at opening time and discovered that the lobby didn’t open until a half hour later! 😡

 

We’d planned a leisurely itinerary to get Schoolmarm to her doctor appointment and to get her meds with a stop at my favorite donut shop and a quick run through the grocery!😜

 

So now the plans had come acropper! We were too early for the visit to the medico and decided to do the donut stop next.  Still too early, we drove across town to get her meds. 🙄

 

Now we had to go back across town and were STILL early, but I found a convenient parking spot and she went in anyway.  It took a bit more than forty-five minutes and we went from there to the gas station we’d spotted with really low prices. I got the pump started and a gust of wind took my hat to the other side of the lot! Now I gotta get my cane out of the car and go traipsing across the lot to retrieve my hat! 🙄😡

 

Refueled and back in possession of my chapeau, we headed back to the bank! No real issues on this leg of the trip and we shared one of the really fabulous apple fritters from the donut shop on the way, BUT we discovered that the little gal at the donut shop got part of the order wrong. No big deal, but I’ll miss the great Bavarian cream filled donuts that were replaced with regular glazed ones.😎

 

Finally got my card replaced and new PIN number assigned.👍

 

Got to the grocery and be damned if they weren’t out of eggs! I reckon I’ll have to try to get out again tomorrow and get eggs to go with my fritter for breakfast! 😡😡

 

I’ve driven over a hundred miles in traffic today and I just want to kick back for a while this afternoon!!

We went skiing this morning, stopped by the toy store and ordered a PPK.  Got home, took the dogs for a stroll, ate lunch, unpacked the car, and ordered a holster.  Making dinner now.  Tomorrow is another ski day!

Weird day today at work. A gun dealer from Georgia sent to our gunstore a silencer along with another gun for a customer. BOTH supposed to go to another local dealer, who is a Class 3 dealer, we are not. So now we have an illegally shipped suppressor in our shop! After a couple hours of calls an wrangling the Georgia shop sent us return labels so we could send them their stuff back. Yeesh.

Looks like a lot of tourists in town for New Years.  I expect the ski hill to be busy the next couple of days, so we'll likely just ski for a couple of hours.

 

Put the tree away.  Ran the errands: dog food, .380 self defense ammo (at the grocery store of all places), quick trip to the hardware store, and groceries.  Then on the way home wife informed me she wanted to get a bottle of barbera.  So one more stop for that, and a bottle of tawny port.

 

Just need to wax the skis today.  Slight grump about all the folks in town.

Took it easy today, only got up to 40F today. My main accomplishment today was making the bed, doing a few dishes and finding some replacement miniatures for a swap box for tabletop games. I'll stuff something in the oven later for us.  We're watching some old mysteries and that seems to be the plan for today. Can't even grump today.

Just idling the motor today.  Teens last night and not supposed to get above freezing today.  
 

Hatfield’s business picked back up the day after Christmas and he is covered up now with good jobs.

 

I have done just next to nothing today! I fixed a little space heater in the gun/reloading room and I got about sixty boxes of ammunition labeled.

 

Schoolmarm called in an order for Chinese food and Hatfield picked it up on a parts run. I don’t care too much for Chinese, but I had her get me a couple of egg rolls.  There’s plenty of stuff in the fridge so I ain’t likely to starve.

 

We’re going to stay in tomorrow too!  It’s supposed to get just above freezing here. Schoolmarm says she’s going to go out for pizza tomorrow and for me NOT to fix breakfast!  I told her it depends on how hungry I am when I wake up!!

 

Y’all stay warm ‘n’ dry and I won’t tell ya’s to be careful.  Just Don’t Get Caught!

OKAY!! IT’S MAJOR GRUMP TIME!!!

 

I went to renew my drivers license this morning and get the new “Real ID”!!

 

I had to obtain a new copy of my birth certificate because my original has found a great place to hide and I’ve been unable to lay my hands on it! I haven’t use my Social Security card in years, but I found it in my wallet and that saved me some grief!

 

I got all my ducks in a row and headed off the the registrar’s office to complete the process!

 

EVERYTHING WENT FINE ‘TIL WE GOT TO THE RECORDS CHECK!!

 

The gal at the computer suddenly stops and gives me a look! The state of Georgia is giving me a thumbs down!!  Why! Gotta contact Georgia Drivers Services to find out and I HAVE TO DO IT BECAUSE THEY’RE NOT ALLOWED TO!!  

 

The nice lady gives me the contact information and the case number thats screwing everything up!  I call them and have to go through the automated AI driven phone system for ten continuous minutes to get to a live representative!!

 

I supply the lady on the other end of the line with the info she asks for and she does some checking! She finds a notice for rejection from a case back in 1979!! FORTY-SIX YEARS AGO!! It’s supposedly for a traffic citation but they can’t find the actual record!! “I’m sending this up to management! Call back in about an hour!!”

 

So I go home, with a couple of stops on the way, and wait an hour and fifteen minutes and then call back. Another ten minute fight with the automated phone system and two hang ups later, I’m told by another agent that they still haven’t found the case documents and that I should call back in a couple of days!

 

My license expires Thursday night at midnight.  I guess I will have to hound them like crazy to try to get it straightened out!!

 

I swear!!  The hoops ya’ have to jump through!! If they can deny an application for cause, they should have the documents and such available for examination! Nearly a half a century without any attempt to contact me!! BULLTWINKIES!!!  Can you say “statute of limitations“??

Our day was spent trying to log in to Social Security. We got a message each! No problem a month or so ago. Now need to have our ID "authenticated". OK!!!

Sends message to phone,take a few selfies, picture of drivers license.. both sides. So far great! Then phone number, buzzzzt.😐 Can't verify my 20 year old landline😡. Try 5 year old cell, nope 🤬!

Only 7 minutes with AI to get it to call back as neither of us has any desire to wait the estimated 120 minutes. 3 hours they call Ellie 🙂.

Will be emailing her videos on how to create a new account. Seems when they updated to the "new system" all of our personal details disappeared causing their "new system" to NOT recognize our phone numbers! Can't make it up, but God forbid an FFL forgets to cross a T. 🤬.

Got mine 2 renewals ago. The day before, I found out from a neighbor that they won't accept an original. Seems odd to me being it has a deal and all. I photo copy it in my printer and off I go! Bring all of our utility bills as required but they are all in Ellie's name! (Rut roh). They were so exited that I brought a copy of my Birthday cert. that only hassled me for a little while over the utility bills. My old expired CCW from Connecticut with my picture let them give me the new license. I can't understand the copy of the Birth cert. though since they don't keep it.

Good afternoon folks, an absolutely gorgeous day here, hit 75 and sunny, so we took our drive. Got subs for lunch at Firehouse Subs, went to 3 different stores and got several things we were looking for, unfortunately the one store I was counting on for suspenders [braces to you folks in Europe] doesn't have them. But they did have fresh popcorn, so that almost made up for it.

Still gotta grump on general principle.
