Doc Shapiro Posted June 8 Posted June 8 I've spent enough time staring at the space and have a reasonable idea. The one thing I can't move is the safe. I lake the proper tools. That is staying where it is. Quote

I hired piano movers. Two big guys lifted it on to a dolly using straps. Moved it where I wanted it. The whole process took possibly 10 minutes. Quote

Doc Shapiro Posted June 8 Posted June 8 For the sake of accountability, Got the reloading and gun stuff the rest of the way unpacked, and everything is put away but for all the gun leather. Tomorrow will deal with the wood working tools 1 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Man, no matter how I organized, moving was like putting all your stuff out in the open and stirring it with a Bobcat! Sympathy, this too, shall pass! 1 1 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Finished unpacking the shop. Not organized yet, but everything is out of boxes. Tomorrow afternoon I have to deal with this lamp "wiring" on the ceiling, who does this?: Gonna take a break after that before hanging the rest of the shelves and organizing. But it'll do for now. 3 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted June 10 Author Posted June 10 It always makes me angry to see how people will butcher a job!! Whoever left that receptacle that way should be slapped silly!! I guess my dad and granddad pounded into me the importance of doing things right the first time!! That kind of thing just runs all over me! I can see how someone could do that for an immediate but temporary fix, but it would not be left like that in my place! Doc!! Looks like you got a good start on getting set up!! I hope that wiring is the worst you run into in getting all your stuff like you want it!! I’m looking at Friday and my next visit with the surgeon!! Hopefully, I won’t have to wear another cast and I can start rehabbing! This is ten weeks, come Thursday and I’m getting a little stir crazy!! 1 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted June 10 Posted June 10 I'm surprised that a place can pass pre sale inspection with something like that! Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted June 10 Author Posted June 10 If it’s an “out building” , they seldom inspect it! Banks and realtors don’t place much value or importance on what’s not directly connected to the home outside of safety concerns. My shop alone, on a separate lot, is probably worth $200K. As part of the total property on appraisal it doesn’t amount to more than another additional $50K in value to the property! Depending on codes in the community or municipality, a free standing building may be considered no more than a barn or shed despite its size or quality of construction. My shop was not within electrical codes because the wiring was not covered by drywall or other interior material when I first called for inspection. The inspector advised me to wait until the first of the next month when a change in the state’s codes would allow my shop the same latitude as a barn or shed on a commercial farm. He returned to do the inspection a couple of weeks later, when the calendar changed. He told me that my shop was done better than most houses he had inspected lately! Just goes to show that things ain’t always balanced like they should be. 1 Quote

Got another $10-14k of home repair work starting end of month, then the 2 windows in the shop can get installed and out of there. Once that happens, I can finish setting up. It's still a bit more chaotic than I like. The rest of the work that needs doing can wait for next year. After this, my bank account will be tapped out. On the upside, we tried the last pizza joint, and it was the best of the lot. Will be back there for sure. 2 Quote

DeaconKC Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Wow, house is quiet for a few minutes. We have an ongoing family visit right now that will not end til Monday or Tuesday. It's okay, great even, but wow, there is a reason God gives children to young folks. Uncle Kevin and Sue Sue are about worn out. Wouldn't trade it and praying God will bring them all up here from Mobile AL permanently. Gotta pick up a new toilet float today and replace that. 4 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted June 11 Author Posted June 11 SO! We went to town this morning for the oncology appointment that Schoolmarm postponed last week due to digestive issues. It is official!! She is now ten years cancer free!! We celebrated with a visit to the Italian restaurant that we went to when she was first told that she had no more cancer!! It was then the first time we’d been there!! I’m now back in the chair with the foot propped up!! 🙄 😵💫 Fingers crossed for Friday!! 5 1 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted June 13 Author Posted June 13 It has poured rain ALL DAY!! The poor dog has been cooped up inside and goes to the door every few minutes… The rain stopped just long enough for me to get out to the car without getting soaked or getting the cast wet. We pulled up to the medical center to make my visit with the surgeon and had to stop right in a big puddle, but I was able to get onto the scooter without putting the bad foot down. Y’all READY??? I AM OUT OF THE CAST!!! The surgeon brought in my X-rays and showed me where two of the fusions are almost TOTALLY healed. The third has a little ways to go, but it’s the one with the least stress on it. I’m still restricted from putting any more than a little weight on it for another couple of weeks, but I’m back in a walking boot and I was able to get up the stairs into the back door at the house without having to turn around and limp up them backward!! (FIREWORKS AND FANFARE!!😜) For now, the scooter will be parked beside the bed for me to ride back and forth to the bathroom, saving me from having to put the walking boot on in the middle of the night! In the meantime, there’s some skin that’s rubbed a little raw in one spot on my instep and not having the cast rubbing on it will allow that to heal quickly. I’m not out of the woods yet, but I think that I can see the edge of the forest. I figure I’ll end up doing some PT when I’m allowed to walk on it full time! I ain’t gonna do much grumping this evening. Aw HELL!! GAFREAKIN’RUMPANYDANGHOW!!! 4 1 1 Quote

Doc Shapiro Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Just spent 20 minutes working with wife on dry fire exercises. If she spends 5-10 minutes a night on it, for 2 weeks, she's going to crush the next event. 4 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted June 15 Author Posted June 15 It’s been a couple of days since I got the cast off. I have taken a few steps on several occasions and had no problems, so far. It’s really good to not have that klunky thing banging around and hitting my other foot and leg in the bed. I’ve definitely slept much better! I’m attempting to stay out of the walking boot as much as possible for the next few days to allow that abrasion on my foot to heal up quickly. Seems to be working as it already looks much better!! Mom is staying with my sister most of the time and is doing much better! They got her some new glasses and new hearing aids are on the way. I doubt that she will go back to living alone, at least for the foreseeable future. She’s geographically closer to most of the family, which allows them to pitch in with Mom’s needs and getting her to appointments. I’m still about the same distance away, but in a different direction. I’m gonna try to fix some breakfast now and see if I can navigate the kitchen. Got me a stool that’ll set in front of the stove and everything is within a couple of steps. Hope I ain’t forgot how to cook!! 3 Quote
