If you read between the lines, that’ll tell you that I ain’t anywhere near being ambulatory!! 😡 The doctor says this one will stay on for three more weeks and then we’ll see how it looks. The X-rays were all good and the bone grafts are taking. Nothing has shifted and all the screws are still where he put them. The bad news is that I’ll probably be getting another cast when this one comes off and it’ll be ANOTHER three weeks before I can walk!! SOMEBODY LOAN ME SOME PATIENCE!! MINE IS ENTIRELY GONE!! 😡😡😡 DAMNITALLTOHELLGRUMPGRUMPGRUMP!! Oh geeze, that's unfortunate. 1 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted May 26, 2025 Author Posted May 26, 2025 Not too bad a day today!! My favorite college baseball team won their conference tournament today! Congrats Vanderbilt Commodores, SEC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!! On the sour side, my mom’s back in the hospital for more treatment and tests. I think she was released too quickly and, of course the insurance company is not wanting to cover the in patient therapy that she really needs!! It’s their contention that she can make do with outpatient or in home nursing! So my sister had to take her in yesterday!! Different hospital! Different doctors! I’m hoping for some real answers and some progress. I’m not doing too bad right now. Just trying to keep from being too bored and to be productive when I can!! I guess I should be glad I’m not in the hospital myself, although I would have an easier time justifying sitting on my posterior to myself!! IT COULD BE WORSE!! 3 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Prayers up for your Mom Blackwater.🙏 Eyesa & aEllie 2 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted May 28, 2025 Author Posted May 28, 2025 She’s doing much better today. Better facility and doctors. Finally getting it across to the insurance company that the doctors need to prescribe treatment and the insurance company pay for it!! They’re going to move her into a mild rehab center and system before getting into intensive therapy. All this is the result of better testing and physicians who will stick to their guns! Looks like a long day tomorrow. Gotta get the tags renewed on Ol’ Green and the Buick, pick up a few small things for around the house, do some minor grocery shopping, and we’ll get lunch while we’re out. The dog still hates the knee scooter, I still have the cast on my foot, it’s raining again for the umpteenth day in a row, and my laundry needs to be put away!! STILL A PROUD GRUMP WHO PUTS THE “CUR” IN CURMUDGEON!! 1 2 Quote

DeaconKC Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 Been scarce here for a bit. Had some health problems, then we were traveling. The neuropathy in my feet is getting worse and I am wondering how well I can continue shooting competition because walking on terrain is getting harder. Anyway, we went to Branson MO for the Memorial Weekend to meet two of our nephews and their families and Uncle Kevin got lots of loving from 6 g'nieces, then when we got home, another nephew and his family were already here, and I got more attention from our only g'nephew and another g'niece. My nephew is candidating to become the pastor at our church and we will be voting in 3 weeks on him. And I am waiting for the repairman to get here to fix the washing machine, and yesterday had to have a repair done on the garage door as one of the torsion springs had broken. Anyway, God is always good. 1 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted May 29, 2025 Author Posted May 29, 2025 Not a bad day, so far!! It’s Schoolmarm’s birthday today and I took her to one of her favorite restaurants for lunch and to the local confections shop for her a latte and some cake. We brought home enough food from the restaurant to feed us both ‘til Saturday night! That place has some of the best chorizo!! DEACON!! Find a good podiatrist and get a thorough evaluation! Check your feet every time you take your shoes off and don’t go barefoot ANYWHERE!! I wear sturdy lace up boots and have insoles made for me every year! It CAN be uncomfortable walking on uneven ground and it requires more concentration and visual circumspection. I use a cane much of the time for a little extra balance. I also keep slippers with me for when I’m out somewhere overnight. The part about checking your feet every time you take off your shoes is the most important thing you can do! Failure to do so is why I’m going through what’s been plaguing me for the last eight plus years! I got a tiny cut on my foot and a week later I was in the hospital, sick as a dog and undergoing surgery to remove much of the tissue on the sole of my foot because of a runaway infection!! It takes a LONG TIME to grow it back and a truckload of antibiotics to fight and prevent further infection. Take care of them tootsie’s!! 2 Quote
DeaconKC Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 @Blackwater 53393 yup, I have seen what a sore on your foot can put someone through! Thank you for the good advice. And I do see my podiatrist regularly. 2 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted May 30, 2025 Posted May 30, 2025 Goodness, I am so out of shape. But I fought the inertia to stay home and went for a short bicycle ride with a nice climb up in the middle. Pushed hard and worked out the cardio. Used to be that today's ride wasn't even a warm up. It's humbling. On the upside, I forgot how exceptional my road bike is. 2 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 Well Fluff. On the way to dinner a rock hit my windshield. By the time we got home the little crack was a foot long. Filed a claim, thankfully there's a local shop that can take care of it. But this was not on my bingo card! 1 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted June 1, 2025 Author Posted June 1, 2025 (edited) Gotta have the windshield on our Enclave replaced. Been putting it off because the crack was in the black grid behind the rear view mirror, but it has migrated down into the passenger side line of sight. Hatfield and the bopper got home from vacation a little after lunchtime today. They had a great time and Cali, the dog, is much happier‘cause her walking buddy is back. Two more weeks in this cast and probably another two or three in the next one. Mom’s back out of the hospital for now. We’re having one hell of a fight with her insurance company because she is staying with my sister who lives a hundred miles from where her policy is written. She needs to be where she has someone around in case she needs help and she SHOULD BE in a rehab facility for some physical and occupational therapy, but the insurance company refuses to cover it. I despise insurance companies and hate the double dealing and delay tactics that they use! Looks like I’ll have to try to get something done with an appeal, first of the week. We have several appointments of our own this week, so I’m going to be busy!! Edited June 1, 2025 by Blackwater 53393 3 Quote

Blackwater, keep a diary of all verbal communication with Insurance Co. obviously also paperwork sent both ways. Date, time, who you talked to, what was said. I had dispute with a health insurance co years ago. I kept a diary on my computer. Eventually I had to contact the State Board of Insurance. They have ability to exert pressure on the Insurance Co. The diary was a big lever that I could hand to the Board’s Investigator. It was resolved in my favor, so well worth the effort. Cj 2 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted June 3, 2025 Author Posted June 3, 2025 Well! Mom is a bit better. We’re going to be fighting with her insurance company for a while yet, but there’s a solution in the works. I took Schoolmarm for her semi-annual oncology scans yesterday and we’ll get those results tomorrow. I’m always apprehensive of this, but tomorrow would be ten years cancer free if everything is as expected. I taught myself a valuable lesson yesterday afternoon!! NEVER RELOAD WHEN YOU AREN’T FRESH!! I was trying to finish the setup on my MEC 600jr. I’m building up a new 10ga load and I was adjusting the shot drop to fine tune my component stack. Instead of taking the powder hopper off of the machine, I decided to just flip the hopper bar over to reset the charge bar. I had been dumping the shot out of the shell back into the shot hopper and forgot that I had removed the plug!! FIVE POUNDS OF SHOT ON, IN, AND UNDER EVERYTHING ON MY LOADING TABLE!!! Took me the better part of an hour to get it all raked up and back into the hopper!! Fortunately, I added a raised edge around the entire table top and that prevented it all from rolling off onto the floor!! I DID get my final touches done on the component stack! It’s not fun to have to remind oneself that you’re, sometimes, a TOTAL DUMBASS!!! GRUMPGRUMPGRUMP!!! 4 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 Good news on Mom and hoping for great results for Schoolmarm 🙏. BTDT with the MEC bottles. What a fricken mess! I had the pleasure of doing both bottles at the same time🥴. Separating it is a big PIA😂. 3 1 Quote

I’m so out of shape from being off my feet that if I do much of anything involving picking up or carrying things, I’m out of breath and aching for a while. ’Course, having to do it from this stupid scooter makes it more strenuous and clumsy!! Blackwater 53393 Posted June 6, 2025 Author Posted June 6, 2025 Wasn’t too bad of a day, yesterday! I managed to get myself into Ol’ Green and get it started, (it hadn’t been fired up since early March) but we did have to jump it off. The electronics don’t turn off when you shut the vehicle down, so it’ll eventually draw the battery down. Anyhow!! My oldest grandson joined me to be my legs for the day and we set out to complete some errands. The truck ran perfectly for the rest of the day. Stopped for gas after a stop at the bank for cash, put a few gallons in because the price was thirty-five cents a gallon higher than most anyplace else and headed down to Wartrace to visit the Tennessee State Match. We stopped at about the halfway point at a station where gas prices were more reasonable and filled up, then grabbed a drink and some breakfast. We got down to Wartrace and found Tell Sackett, who had primers for me at a really good price!! Good guy to deal with!! We went and found Widder so’s I could give him my new Henry Golden Boy .22 rifle. He’ll give it to Slater for the “soft stroke” action job and Slater’s trigger magic. From there, after visiting with a few friends, we headed cross country to meet up with Willy McCoy at his gun shop. For once, I wasn’t doing gun business. He had some car parts that I wanted and had been unable to go and get down to his place for months to pick up! Bryce, my grandson, was surprised at the size and scope of the Wartrace range and the crowd that had already gathered for the match. He jokingly pointed out that he was the only person on the place that wasn’t wearing a hat!🤣 We got the parts loaded up and we headed home! I NEVER HAD TO GET OUT OF THE TRUCK ALL DAY!! The kid did every bit of the foot work and seemed to have a great time!! I DID put some bucks in his pocket for his trouble! All in all, a nice drive on a nice day, got to get out and see some friends, got my errands run, got to spend the day with my grandson, got some good deals, and the truck ran flawlessly!! Today, it pouring rain and I am stuck in the house in a chair!! Can I go back to yesterday??? GRUMPGRUMPGRUMP!! 🙄 4 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 Today, the only grump I have is that my back still hurts. Nowhere near as bad as it did. Done with work for the day, off next week! Daughter is coming to visit. Earlier, I took the dogs out and saw 2 young male elk bounding up the hill from my yard. Wish I'd looked out the window to take a picture before hand. Dogs about pulled my arms off! They're on leash, we do not have a fence. And an electric fence/collar would not stop them. They'd go straight through it after critters. Tomorrow is first trip to the local range for a steel challenge match! I think I should be able to manage a .22 rifle with the tremors in my hands. 2 Quote

Doc Shapiro Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 Super fun time at the steel challenge match today! In spite of not pulling a trigger in something like 8 years, I finished 3rd. Wife finished top woman, and it's been longer than that since she's been shooting. Met some lovely people, which was the best part. 3 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted June 8, 2025 Author Posted June 8, 2025 I spent most of the day, yesterday, in the recliner with my feet propped up!! I watched a little college baseball, the NASCAR truck race, a couple of professional baseball games, and some old westerns. The only thing productive that I did all day was assemble my new battery powered chainsaw. They don’t write instructions like they used to and I didn’t want to do it twice, so I read ‘em and then translated ‘em to mechanic speak to get the job done!! Now !! If I just had some bar/chain oil and two good feet… It was by no means my most productive day, but I DID do something!! 😜 3 Quote

I took three weeks to get the stuff in my shop laid out. That’s after installing the twin post lift and four sections of heavy shelves! I’d bet that I moved EVERYTHING at least three times and sometimes several more, before I got things more or less the way I wanted them! It turned out completely different from what I had originally thought it would be. I have most of my work tables on casters and there are several carts on wheels as well!! It’s a good thing because I STILL find myself “improving” the layout! 😵💫 2 Quote
