Squib Kidd Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Reports saying 2.8g of Titegroup with the 97g HBRNFP Cowboy bullet is the sweetspot to make SASS power factor.

But if you let it build up, not good. They should do better with today's hitek coated bullets though. Are the 192gr 45 swc bullets something shooters have asked for? As opposed to the standard 200gr 45acps. I was actually trying for 180g, but the bullets come out at 192. The reasoning is specifically pricing. Lighter bullets cost less. It's an economic bullet designed for bullseye/PPC and accuracy shooters. I've heard from many shooters (and Mike Heffron, Heffron Precision) that the Gold Cup type 1911's like a little lighter SWC . (1861 Uberti with Kirst). I'm guessing .370 bore. Anyway, I had N320 in the powder hopper and V-V Cowboy data only goes down to a 125gr bullet - I use 3.2gr, so I upped it to 3.5gr and loaded 14 rounds (that was all the brass I had left). Tested it at 20 ft, about a grapefruit size group a little high left, not bad but a fair amount of unburnt powder. So next I tried 2.8gr of ClayDot - (Clays data for a 100gr bullet is 2.5-3.0gr). This made the two pictured groups at about 15 feet, and then for comparison two groups with BearCreek 148gr HBWC and 3.2gr N320 (V-V cowboy data for 140gr is 3.2-3.8gr). So I'm not sure how much the little bullets are expanding but apparently good enough for CAS and don't seem to be keyholing, though not sure about that one paper tear. The next test will be whether the lower pressure of BP will expand it. edit: oops, typo on that first picture, it was at 15' like the rest, not 25' Did you happen to chrono any of this?

Tall John Posted April 10, 2025 Posted April 10, 2025 I’ve loaded up over 1,000 of these. 2.9, 3.0 and 3.2gns of TiteGroup. They shoot and feed well. I don’t have a chrono.
